5 PRESIDENTS MESSAGE WELCOME TO THE START OF OUR SEASON. Welcome all members, both old and new to the swimming season. I hope that it will again be a successful one for the and that all members continue to improve and enjoy the sport of swimming. The Sans Souci is run by volunteers and continues to enjoy a very high level of competition. We have had swimmers compete at all Regional, NSW Metropolitan, State and National Championship events during the past six years. The Club continues to send a strong contingent to the representative meets which are highly prized honors for all swimmers. We cater for all swimmers from as young as 5 to Open Age, able body to multiclass (swimmers with disability). Whether you can swim 15M or 1,500M, Swim Club is about learning and practicing competition level swimming whilst having fun at the same time. We will endeavor to assist the kids to race within the rules of swimming and offer guidance to those who need it and then to pass this information onto the coaches. We encourage all families to come along and support their children in participation in our Swim Club. Who knows, we may produce another Olympian like our Head Coach. We look forward to another great year and am sure that our swimmers will enjoy themselves, enjoy the competition and make many new friends but more importantly have fun in the sport of swimming. We would like to acknowledge and thank our sponsors for their generous support. We congratulate to all the past members of the Sans Souci for the foundation on which our club has been built upon. We congratulate present members of the club for their time, talents and dedication! To future members of our club, We hope that they find our club wonderful place for the whole family to come participate in and build your kids confidence. Good luck everyone. 5

PARENTAL SUPPORT The running of carnivals, club and our time trial nights takes a lot of organisation. Your support and assistance in the running of these events is needed and greatly appreciated. If you can help out on club nights by timekeeping (as we need a minimum of 2 per lane) or marshalling, please volunteer. We have all heard it before MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK - this is so true - if you want a fast night at the pool we must have your help. The Sans Souci is a highly competitive club and one of the strongest in the Metsea Region. It is because of this that sometimes we are required to time keep, not only at smaller club meets, but at the larger MetSEA and NSW State meets, as per NSW Swimming guidelines. If your child is entered, you will be expected to assist in timekeeping. To make it fair for everyone, ALL parents and carers will be asked to time keep, as required, generally 1 spot per every swimmer entered. In the week leading up to the meet, a timeline will be issued from NSW Swimming, or smaller club carnivals, and then a SSSD roster will be drawn up and ed to all competitors. If you know you will no be attending this meet, please advise 7

8 the carnival organisers well in advance to reduce the timekeeping allocation expected of our club. Please keep a look out in your for this roster, add us as a contact so that it does not end up in your Junk mail. This is a directive from NSW Swimming and we have no control over if and when we have to time keep. We may only be allocated 1 person 1 lane or 9 people 3 lanes. It all depends on NSW Swimming. If you have entered a NSW Swimming meet, please expect to be rostered on. If you know in advance, or after the roster has been issued, that you will not be attending, please arrange with another wonderful SSSD parent to fill your spot. You will receive an for the roster from Please register (free) and signup. If you would like to read any information on being a Timekeeper and/or becoming a Technical Official (Timekeeping), please read the link from NSW Swimming. It is not compulsory to become a Technical Official to time keep. If you have any questions in relation to helping or training, please contact one of our wonderful Committee Members. Sans Souci has grown this way because of the tireless work and support of our parents. Please keep up this great work - the club needs you. Thank you. 8

9 CAPS: Sea Devils have 3 different colour caps, identifying swimmers at different stages of their development. Local Development Meets, MetSEA Meets. State Qualifiers. National Qualifiers. The committee asks that parents encourage their child to wear the appropriate colour cap dependent on which meet they are attending. this helps identfy us as a team and strengthens the sea Devils Brand. 9

10 FRIDAY SWIM CLUB NIGHT Sans Souci Sea Devils conducts Friday Swim Club Night every fortnight commencing at 6pm sharp, from October through to March. We do stop during the Christmas/January holidays. Please note that no child can be left unattended at the pool on Friday Club Night evenings. Swim Club is fun but requires parental supervision. No child may enter the pool for Friday Club Night, unless accompanied by an adult (over 18 years). Parents are required to assist with the running of events, particularly timekeeping. No experience is necessary and full training will be provided, and you will be able to gain knowledge from our more experienced club members. Please remember that the children only compete against their own personal best (PB) times. They are here to enjoy themselves and their sport and hopefully improve their swimming. Please support them in their chosen sport by encouraging them and becoming involved in the Club. Events are programmed each fortnight as per the timetable. However, this is a guide only, and may be altered at the discretion of the Race Official when and where necessary. We try to run our Friday Night Club night like an actual carnival. This way the children learn what to do when they are attending a swimming carnival. The majority of events are Point Score events, with championship events held at the end of the summer season. 13 MARSHALLING The Marshall will call swimmers to the marshalling area (usually near the start blocks) at least 2 events prior to your event. It is the swimmer s responsibility to arrive at the marshalling area when events are called. Those members arriving after their events have been marshalled may be ineligible to compete. Exceptions will be made at the discretion of the Referee. The Marshall will place the children in their races and they will be directed where to sit. So as to allow a smooth procedure in the marshalling area, it is essential that swimmers wait patiently and quietly. Swimmers who disrupt the marshalling procedures may be asked to leave the area and we ask for your total support in ensuring this occurs. Unless otherwise notified, all swims will be scratch events (swimmers all start together at the same time), with heats and lanes allocated according to previous best times. STARTING The Starter will call the Swimmers onto the blocks, or into the water for backstroke races, by whistle, and all races will be started by buzzer, electronic hooter or whistle. Only the Referee on the night can disqualify a swimmer at their discretion. We ask you to please read the following instructions on the starting and swimming of races and to become familiar with racing procedures. 1. At the sound of the Referee s whistle, competitors must step up to the back of the starting block (or in backstroke or medley relays, to enter the water, and a second long whistle to bring swimmers to the starting position). 2. At the command take your marks, Competitors take up their starting positions and remain stationary. 3. When all Competitors are stationary, the Starter will give the starting signal by pistol, hooter or whistle. 13

14 4. The Club will function under the Two Start Rule for 25m races and the One Start Rule for all races 50m and greater. A disqualified swimmer may still swim in the race, their time and points will not be recorded but their swim will still enable them to qualify for Championship events. 5. All Swimmers must remain in the water in their lanes until the Referee signals them. 18 SANS SOUCI SEA DEVILS CLUB CARNIVAL Sans Souci Sea Devils holds a carnival in February each year. This carnival is open to all ages. ALL parents are required to assist in the running of this carnival. It is our major fundraiser for the year and we need all the available help to make it happen. More information about this will become available as the date gets closer. OTHER SWIMMING CARNIVALS The Sans Souci will compete in a variety of Swimming Carnivals throughout the Metropolitan South East Region (Metsea) and beyond. You are not restricted on where you swim. These carnivals are a great way to see your child improving through competition and we ask that you support these carnivals. Details of these events will be provided throughout the season. Notices of some carnivals will be handed out by the coaches. These are what we call club targeted meets and a coach will attend. Notices will also be placed in our notice board, our facebook page and on our Website. However, for other carnivals that you think your child might be interested in, they are all noted on the Swimming NSW website under Calendar. Metsea also hold regular carnivals: Development Carnivals Long Distance Carnivals Summer Championships Winter Championships When we go to SOPAC at Homebush, we like to sit in Section on the western side of the pool. However, if this area is full we won t be too far away, so look out for our banner. If you are attending an outside carnival, we now have a Sea Devils branded shade tent that everyone is more than welcome to borrow. 18

19 Another PB website lists many meets in which you can enter. Sign up is free and select online entries on the top right. Select the meet you which to attend and enter asap. You have several options to pay, either credit card or PayPal. If a meet you wish to attend is not listed in here, you are welcome to anotherpb and request the meet is added for entries. We also use to enter our Friday club nights. Entry for these events are free. Please enter online prior to Friday 3pm as the meet is closed and all entries are uploaded to our computer. You can enter on the Friday night, but this needs to be done prior to 5.30pm at the pool and your child will not be eligible to earn point for their races. MEET MOBILE APP Meet Mobile is an apple and android app in which you can download for a yearly fee. You can view results of many carnivals, including State and National events. Just type part of the carnival name, ie. Sans Souci, in the search area, and it should come up. Swimmate is another free app that can be used and is run by 19
