2 Pool Rules For a full list of our general pool rules, please ask a shift manager for more details. General rules are posted at Crystal Lake Park Family Aquatic Center. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, if your child is still in diapers, a swim diaper must be worn at all times while if your child will be entering the water. We understand that accidents do happen, however we are required to close the facility/body of water to properly sanitize and clean any pool that is contaminated. Approved diapers are available for purchase at the front office window. Lap Swim Etiquette Children under age 15 are not allowed in the pool during lap swim times. Due to the popularity of lap swimming, lap lanes for the general public are not guaranteed during public swim hours. Early morning activities from 6-8am include lap swim, water aerobics and occasional swim team practice. Weather Crystal Lake Park Family Aquatic Center will occasionally close due to inclement weather. Weather conditions that will cause the pool to close its doors include, but are not limited to, outside temperature of less than 68 degrees, lightning and rain. No refunds or credits will be issued for weather related closings or for closings due to cleaning, repair or swim meets. For up-to-date weather information, check our Rainout Line at Food & Drink Purchase snacks and drinks from the vending area or bring your own soft-sided cooler. Staff will check coolers at the entrance for items that are not allowed. Prohibited items include glass bottles and open containers of liquid. Health codes require us to ask patrons to dump any open containers, so please bring either sealed water bottles or empty bottles that you fill at our free water filling station. FOR YOUR SAFETY All waterslide riders must be at least 48 inches tall without exception. The waterslides are 37 feet tall and there are three to choose from: the swirly open slide, the enclosed body slide and the enclosed drop slide. Only Coast Guard-approved flotation devices are allowed. See the label to check if yours is approved. Staff reserves the right to check any personal flotation devices for safety reasons. Parents are required to be within arm s reach of a child wearing a life jacket. Life jackets are not allowed on slides or in the diving well. It is open to everyone during public swim time with a paid admission, punch card or membership card. During public swim hours, the water spray toys and water slides are turned on. Lap swim times are for individuals age 15 and up who wish to swim for exercise. Attend Urbana Park District water exercise classes by registering and paying for a specific program. The Urbana Indoor Aquatic Center is also home to the Urbana Park District swim lesson program and PE programs. Local swim team practices and meets, special events, birthday parties and private rentals are also held here. Take advantage of this great community pool and bring a friend! The pool facility will be available for use with no features on to ensure comfort levels for all. Swim and use the room for a 2 hour time slot during our public swim hours. When calling for reservations, ask about our discount for non-swimming, supervising adults. 11 Parent-Tot Swim Lessons Children are introduced to the water with games and songs. They will work on jumping in, splashing, and being comfortable floating on front and back. According to Illinois Health Code, all children wearing diapers must also wear plastic pants over them or wear a swim diaper. This is to help prevent the spread of infectious disease through fecal accidents. Swim diapers are available for $1 at the entrance. Urbana Park District Swim Lessons Early registration is encouraged. A waitlist may be started for programs that fill quickly. The deadline is one week before the session begins. Instructors and supervisors evaluate participants to place them in the appropriate level. New participants will be tested and placed in the proper class. 13 Swim Clinic for Triathletes Saturday, May 19, 7:30-11:30am Urbana Indoor Aquatic Center Learn several key ingredients for the swim portion of a triathlon: open-water and in-pool. It is ideal for athletes new to the sport of triathlon and for more experienced triathletes who wish to brush up on their technique. Work on: 1. Efficiency learning to stroke with minimal wasted effort, increased stroke power, saving leg muscles for the bike and run portion of the race. 2. Breathing dynamics- so swimmers can get good breaths and good bilateral sighting, 3. Straight swimming- swimmers can increase their number of strokes they can take between sighting for course markers. 4. Sighting- how to see the course markers without interrupting stroke flow 5. Turning techniques- for rounding markers and for effectively using the walls for pool swims 6. In-water starts Bring several towels, snack food and drink (no glass bottles), goggles, and (optional) fins and/or snorkel. Some swimmers find that wearing a swim shirt to keep warm during extended water time makes them more comfortable. If you can swim 25 yards, this clinic will help you develop swim habits that will enable you to swim faster, more efficiently, and more relaxed with a focus on swim techniques that are designed to avoid injury. With three coaches on deck, we are able to pay close attention to tailoring our instruction to fit each swimmer s needs, pace of development, and goals. We are also able to address a variety of swimming activities: triathletes, high school and masters competitive swimmers, recreational lap swimmers, and people who just want to feel more comfortable in the water. Our Elite Clinician will be in the water teaching your swimmer the proper technique for FASTER freestyle, flip turns, and breakouts! Fitter and Faster clinicians are Olympians and National Team members who have achieved at the highest level of the sport of swimming and who have the unique skill to teach what they know from a technical perspective to swimmers of all ages and abilities. Freestyle: Learn how to hold a straight and solid body line so that you can rocket through the water with less drag. Keep your head still and low in the water while driving your kick. Our Elite Clinician will also teach participants how to get an early and powerful press backwards on the water with your pull. Flip Turns: Learn to carry your momentum through the turn to get ahead of the competition every wall. Use your core and your arms to get through the turn and then plant your feet on the wall for a powerful push off in the perfect streamline. Practice drills and exercises to help you master this athletic skill. Breakouts: Learn how to carry momentum from the underwater dolphin kicks into the breakout by timing the first stroke and staying streamlined. Your swimmer will practice keeping their head down and it ll make a big difference in their breakout!
