1 INFORMATION PACK The Club to Pub swim is a 1.5km summer evening swim taking place in the heart of Henley. Starting from Henley Rowing Club, and finishing at the historic Angel on the Bridge (dating back to 1728). Brakspear, have brewed a special commemorative beer for the event, called Two Bells. All finishers will receive a bottle of Two Bells, Brakspear Club to Pub beer and a medal that doubles as a bottle opener to get it open! 2 Event Overview Date: Saturday 21st July 2018 Swim Start: Henley Rowing Club, RG9 3JD Course: Starting at Henley Rowing Club, the course goes upstream for 400m before turning at large marker buoys and comes back downstream alongside Mill Meadows, finishing at the Angel on the Bridge. Swim Finish: Angel on the Bridge, RG9 1BH Distance: 1.5km Registration: From 2.00pm Start Time: Post swim party: After your swim there will be a BBQ and party with DJ until 11pm. Minimum age: 18 First wave at 7.00pm Please arrive 90 minutes before your wave (see page 3 for timings). 2

4 EVENT LOCATION By Car Parking is provided at Swiss Farm, Marlow Road, Henley. For Sat Nav please use the postcode RG9 2HY. Please note that this is a 1.8km walk to the Henley Rowing Club. There is a voluntary contribution to Sue Ryder to park here, so please have some change handy. The car park will open at 1.45pm Please note all cars will need to be removed from the car park by 10pm Alternatively you can park in one of the town car parks, please see the options at Parkopedia. These car parks are closer to the event venues, but there is no guarantee of spaces. This may be a better option if you are planning to return to your car later than 10pm. Some car parks are free in Henley after 3pm. By Train The nearest train station is Henley-on-Thames, which has links to London (approximately 1 hour) and Reading (approximately 20 minutes). Henley Rowing Club is a short walk from the town centre, across the bridge, and right down Wargrave Road. Start Location Once you have parked, or arrived by train, make your way to Henley Rowing Club, Wargrave Road, RG9 3JD to collect your registration pack and get ready for your swim. 4

5 EVENT INFORMATION Before the Swim We suggest you allow 90 minutes before your wave to collect your registration pack, change, prepare for your swim and be ready for the compulsory safety briefing which will take place at 6:45pm. Safety briefing It is compulsory to attend the briefing, the briefing will take place for all swimmers at 6:45pm. Wave 1 swimmers must be ready to swim immediately after the briefing. Registration from 2.00pm Henley Rowing Club All competitors are required to register with photographic ID, before being allocated a numbered swimming cap, bag drop tag and timing chip. To beat the queues you can register early from 2pm, you can then visit Henley and return in time to change and be ready for your safety briefing. Swim Start Once briefed, you will be called forward in your waves, and will enter the river at the designated entry points. You will then have a short warm up before being asked to swim to the Start line, just outside Henley Rowing Club. There will be 5 waves going off with a short gap in between each wave. Support canoes will oversee your swim ensuring you take the correct course. Bag Drop There will be secure bag drop facilities at Henley Rowing Club. Your registration pack will include a numbered bag tag. Please attach this to your bag and take it to the bag drop tent. All bags must be collected from bag drop by 9.30pm. You will be able to leave a pair of flip-flops (and a hoodie if swimming without a wetsuit) in a plastic bag in the buckets at the start. These will be taken to the finish at the pub, to be available for your walk back to the rowing club. After the Swim Once you have completed your swim, you can collect your flip flops and either walk back to Henley Rowing Club (approx 650 m) or catch the river taxi. At Henley Rowing Club you can pick up your bag from the bag drop, shower and change, and then head back to the Angel for the BBQ and party. Alternatively, you can stay at the Angel and go straight to the BBQ in your wetsuit, and return to the Rowing Club later. You must collect your bag 5 by 9.30pm.

6 EVENT INFORMATION (CONT ) River Taxi There will be River Taxis running between Henley Rowing Club and The Angel on the Bridge pub throughout the evening. Tickets for the river taxi are 3 and this gives unlimited journeys. They are available for both swimmers and spectators. The taxi will run between 7:40pm and 10pm. BBQ There will be a BBQ at the Angel Pub, with burger, hot dog and vegetarian options. These can be purchased in advance by logging into the online registration system using this link This must be done by Monday 16th July. The food options are 5.50 if ordered in advance, and 6.50 on-the-day. Wetsuit Hire Wetsuits are optional and available to hire from our wetsuit partner Cliff Lakes. Selkie The Selkie shop will be at the event, with Club to Pub commemorative t-shirts and hoodies, and other items from the range. Spectators Supporters who wish to follow their swimmers should walk upstream of the Angel on the Bridge, on the town side of the river, towards Mill Meadows, where they will have the best chance of seeing their swimmers and walking with them to the finish to meet them at the pub. Prizes Prizes will be awarded to the winners of each category. There will also be a Team Prize awarded. Teams must have at least 4 swimmers to be eligible for this prize, the times of the first 4 swimmers to finish from each team will be combined, and the prize awarded to the fastest cumulative time. Prize giving will take place around 8:45pm. 6

7 SAFETY ADVICE & INFORMATION Safety Advice Whilst water quality tests provide an indication of the suitability of a venue for open water swimming they do not mean that that there is a complete absence of potential pathogens. You are advised to adopt the following procedures to minimise the risk of infections: Cover all cuts and abrasions, however minor, with sticking plasters. You should not consider swimming if you have deep cuts. Wash hands in fresh water before eating after you have swum. Take a full shower at the earliest opportunity. Try not to ingest water while swimming. In addition all swimming kit (wetsuit, costume, goggles, hat,etc) should be washed in clean water and thoroughly dried prior to your next swimming session or event. In addition, Henley Swim is the first events organiser to receive the SH2OUT accreditation, a set of safety standards developed by RLSS UK and British Triathlon.
