3 3 BRITISH GAS ASA OPEN WATER NATIONAL AGE GROUP & YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS TEAM The following information has been prepared to assist you for the British Gas ASA Open Water National Age Group & Youth Championships Please read ALL information carefully as this document holds important information, some of which will be new to you. Each swimmer will have a unique chip on their numbered hat which will register at the finish. Further details will be given at the competitor briefing. REGISTRATION The registration time for each event is indicated above. Please sign in and collect your hat and timing chip. You will also be asked to number up where you will be marked with a permanent marker on your arm and hand this is for athlete recognition and is a requirement of the race. BRIEFING The briefing time is indicated above and will take place in the marquee on the Green. It is essential that every athlete has a coach / chaperone present as important information will be provided about the race and safety procedures will be explained. This information must then be relayed to swimmers. If you coach / chaperone does not attend the briefing you will not be allowed to swim.

Goggles, cap, nose clip and earplugs maybe used. Only one costume is allowed. Costumes must comply with FINA Open Water rules. In Open Water swimwear for both men and women shall not cover the neck, extend past the shoulder, nor extend below the ankle. COURSE MAP RACE COURSE The course will start with a dive start off a pontoon. You will swim anti clockwise around fluorescent orange and yellow buoys on a 1km loop, followed by a second loop depending on your race distance (please consult the course map above). RACE FINISH The race will be completed with a swim through finish; swimmers should not touch the inflatable finish gantry above them. Further details regarding the race procedure will be given at the competitor briefing.

5 5 BRITISH GAS ASA OPEN WATER NATIONAL AGE GROUP & YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS TEAM GENERAL INFORMATION SAFETY INFORMATION Safety boats will be on the water and course officials patrolling the edge of the lake. If you get into difficulties either make your way to the side of the lake or lie on your back in the water with your arm in the air. A rescue boat, equipped with blankets, will come and collect you. Water marshals, kayaks and land marshals with throws will all be on hand should you experience any difficulties. Swimmers are never far from the lake bank and the turn sections of the course are indicated by large fluorescent buoys. Use sun block whatever the weather; always apply after numbering or an hour before numbering to allow time for it to soak in. Wear mirrored goggles to prevent glare and wear your goggles underneath your swim cap. This will avoid your goggles being knocked off your head at the start around the turn buoys. Stay relaxed at the start of the race and don t panic. Cold water can make you breathe rapidly. If this happens, try to stay calm and concentrate on breathing deeply until your body adjusts to the water temperature. After leaving the water drink flat coke. Coke kills most bacteria and bugs swallowed during open water competition. MEDICAL PROVISION The course will be marshalled by safety boats and first aiders to assist anyone experiencing any issues. An ambulance with first aiders will be in attendance. BAGGAGE STORAGE A baggage store will be available at the registration tent for you leave your belongings, labelled with your race number. RESULTS Unofficial results will be able to be viewed at the start/finish area. Confirmed results will be posted online at PRESENTATIONS Medal presentations will take place as soon as possible after results for each race have been announced. If you have won a medal please report to the presentation podium as soon as possible dressed in your full club tracksuit. COACHES PASSES Coaches / chaperones must display their coaches passes at all times when in the start finish area and pontoon. Coach passes for the British Gas ASA National Youth Championships (50m) 2012 at Ponds Forge, Sheffield, 17 th 21 st July must be collected from Ponds Forge International Sports Centre. These passes will be valid at the ASA Open Water National Championships. Coach passes for the British Gas ASA Open Water National Age Group & Youth Championships can be collected from the registration desk at Rother Valley from 08:00 daily. For those using their British Gas ASA National Age Group Championships (50m) 2012 coach pass to gain entry to Open Water must collect passes from the registration desk at Rother Valley Country Park between 08:00 and 12:00, Saturday 21 st July 2012.

6 6 BRITISH GAS ASA OPEN WATER NATIONAL AGE GROUP & YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS TEAM Following this coaches passes for National Age Group Championships will be available for collection from 14:00, Saturday 21 st July at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre. DOPING CONTROL Swimmers are warned that random doping control may take place during these Championships. It is essential that you bring with you to the event your passport, or other form of photographic identification. VENUE FACILITIES INC. CAR PARKING Group changing rooms, toilets and lockers are located in the Water Sports Centre, adjacent to the lake. Additional toilets for spectators can be found in the Courtyard situated near to the cafe. Lockers take 50p, which must be given to reception in exchange for a wristband. Ample car parking is available in the cafe car park, please follow the signage. Parking is charged at 3. Rother Valley Country Park offers the perfect opportunity to make a weekend of the British Gas ASA Open Water National Age Group and Youth Championships. The 750 acre park hosts a number of walking and cycling routes which link into the Transpennine Trail and Sustrans Route 6. Bicycles are available to hire from the Watersports and Activity Centre. To hire a bicycle you will need photographic ID. There are 5 lakes within the park, with the competition being held in the Main Lake which is 1 mile long. The Nature Reserves offers fantastic bird watching with over 260 different varieties of birds recorded over the past two years. FOOD AND DRINK On completion of the race each competitor will be given a food voucher. This voucher entitles you to a portion of soup, roll and can of coca cola which can be collected from the registration desk. Food and drinks are available to purchase from The Stables Cafe. TICKETS AND PROGRAMMES Entry to the event is free of charge. Programmes will be available to purchase from the registration desk. EVENT MERCHANDISE Event photos will be available to purchase post event online from Event T-Shirts will not be available for purchase. VIDEO AND PHOTOGRAPHY POLICY British Swimming and the ASA are becoming increasingly concerned about the new wave of mobile telephones with a photographic capability, enabling the capture of both static & moving images. Used responsibly, such devices are perfectly safe, but sharing images widely may betray a confidence or even an identity & such information may help those who might want to harm children. The use of such equipment is difficult to control but we can all be vigilant & if you have any concerns in this area, please bring them to the attention of someone responsible. This event will be photographed and videoed. Static images will be displayed on the website at the venue and used to promote the sport at this event and events in the future. Moving images will displayed at the venue and used as

Recording images: The ASA and British Swimming may record the competition events in which you participate and general images of swimmers will form part of the information we hold and use. In addition to the purposes for general information set out above, the ASA and/or British Swimming may use these recordings and images for the purposes of education and training, swimmer analysis, performance, development, selection and event promotion. If Parents/Guardians have any concerns with their child being photographed at our events please complete the Refusal of Consent Form, which can be found at the ASA desk in the cafe area of the venue and included in this confirmation pack.
