Registration and evaluations are held up through the start of the season. The Aquaducks are led by head coach, Brianne Palenski. Please take a moment to browse through this guide and learn more about the wide variety of programs and special events we have planned this summer. Swim Test Red Any swimmer unable to pass the yellow band test must be directly supervised (within arms reach) by a parent/ guardian at all times and wear a Coast Guard approved flotation device. Swimmers with red bands are not permitted on the slide or in the deep end of the lap pool or the slide. Yellow Must pass shallow water test. Starting in water at armpit level with feet flat on the bottom of the pool, swimmer must remove feet from the bottom of the pool and then return feet back to the bottom of the pool. Swimmers with yellow bands are not permitted in the deep end of the pool or the slide. Green Must be able to swim one length of the lap pool (without stopping), climb out, jump back in, resurface without grabbing the side of the pool, tread water for one minute, go into a back float, and recover. The first visit will be complimentary, all visits thereafter will be $10. Each person listed on the membership will be allowed to bring one guest. Weekends/Holidays One guest per membership will be permitted to use the center during the weekend hours. The pricing will be the same as during the week. We will not permit outside guests to use the facility without being accompanied by a paying member between Memorial Day - Labor Day. Our first priority is to serve our members. The purpose of our guest policy is to enhance services to current members who are encouraging a friend to join. We will make reasonable accommodations for members of other Ys traveling in our area, for out of town family of current members and for out of town visitors. Centers may restrict guest usage, hours of usage and area of usage with or without notice to ensure the safety and comfort of members. We highly encourage members to contact the Y prior to visiting with a guest to inquire about any guest restrictions due to demands on the center. Securing your valuables Please safeguard your valuables. The Y in Central Maryland is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged personal property. Lost and Found The Y in Central Maryland is not responsible for lost or stolen articles. Please lock cars and leave valuables at home or in a secure location. All lost and found clothing, towels, etc. will be retained at the pool for one week. After one week, all unclaimed articles will be discarded or donated to Goodwill or other charitable agencies. Smoking/Tobacco and Alcohol The Y in Central Maryland is a tobacco-free zone. Smoking, including the use of electronic cigarettes, is prohibited on Y property. Alcohol is also not permitted on Y property at any time. Pool Furniture While the pool has hundreds of pieces of pool furniture, there may be times during peak usage where a chair may not be available. You can bring in your own chairs that can be kept in the playground area off the pool deck. We also ask that you be considerate of others and follow the one-person, one-chair rule. Please refrain from using the chairs as towel hangers and bag holders. Parent/Guardian Supervision Parents are responsible for the conduct of their children. Children ages 10 and under must be accompanied and supervised by an adult (18 years or older) at all times. Non-swimmers must be within arm s reach of a parent or guardian at all times. The pool management reserves the right to require parental supervision for a child 11 years and older who repeatedly violates pool rules. Lifeguards can not monitor general behavior of children. They must be solely focused on preventing and responding to pool emergencies. 15
18 Inclement Weather The lifeguards/management have the authority to close the pool during inclement weather. All attempts are made to keep the pool open, and wait out the storm, however, the pool management may delay opening, or close the pool for the day to ensure the safety of patrons and associates. Standard procedure is to wait 30 minutes after each lightning strike. Safety Breaks Lifeguards will call a ten-minute safety break each hour. At times, safety breaks may be sporadic due to limited pool usage, inclement weather, special days, etc. During safety breaks adults 18 years and older have use of the pool, allowing parents a relaxing period in the pool and giving children a break from the constant activity and exhaustion that pool play may elicit. Breaks also give an opportunity to use the restroom. During safety breaks, lifeguards will permit infants under 18 months old access to the main pool with their parents. Infants must be in their parents arms at all times. Discipline The pool management encourages all parents to review the pool rules with their children. While the summer pool can be a place of fun and memories, it can also be extremely dangerous if pool rules are not followed. Pool Guidelines The lifeguards and associates of the Y will enforce the following rules. The Y reserves the right to suspend or expel any individual who violates the pool rules/policies. Rules and policies may change without notice to ensure safety and comfort of all members. Rule changes will be posted at pool entrance. Y swimming pools are only to be used when a lifeguard is on duty. Please shower before entering the swimming pool. Persons with open cuts, sores or blisters are not permitted in the swimming pool. Children who are not potty-trained must wear a swim diaper AND plastic pants. Disposable diapers are not permitted. A bathing suit with a hygienic liner must also be worn. Poolside diaper changing is unsanitary. Please use locker rooms and changing tables. Please use the appropriate changing facilities (on-deck changing of any age is prohibited). All members and guests must abide by the pool's age guidelines (see page 15). Swimmers must wear the appropriate swim wear (no jeans or cut-offs; swimsuits only). The Y asks all members to remember the family environment and choose the style of your swimsuit accordingly. Children wearing Coast Guard approved flotation devices and non-swimmers must be within arms reach of a parent or guardian. Water wings (arm floaties) are not permitted. The Pool Manager may make exceptions based on special needs of the swimmer and inspection of the device. Glass or metal objects are not permitted in the pool area and any food consumed must be in designated areas. Chewing gum, tobacco products and alcohol are not permitted in the Y s swim environments. Feet first entries only. No diving. Flips, spins or back dives are not permitted in the Y s aquatic environment. Diving is permitted in swimming pools with a minimum of 7 of water during posted times. Running, horse playing, pushing, carrying people on shoulders or dunking is prohibited in the swimming pool or deck area. Hanging on the lane lines, safety ropes and basketball hoops is not permitted. Prolonged underwater swimming or breath holding is not permitted. Floats and rafts are only permitted during designated times and when posted in advance. Fins and snorkels are only permitted in lap lanes. On occasion during peak demand, the pool manager may restrict usage of fins to ensure the safety of other swimmers. The Y prohibits the use of mermaid tail fins and mono fins for all swimming pools. When the whistle blows, look to a lifeguard immediately! Any act deemed unsafe by the lifeguard or management will not be tolerated. Please cooperate with the lifeguards in enforcement of the rules. Your assistance in reviewing the pool rules with your children will greatly enhance our ability to provide a safe and enjoyable pool atmosphere. Slide Guidelines The slide is closed if a lifeguard is not present and/or when the access stairs to the slide are secured and closed. Youth ages 16 and under are required to pass the Y in Central Maryland s green band Swim Test prior to use. Flotation devices and toys are not permitted when using the slide. 16
