1 Wyngate Swim Club 2018 Season Greetings from Wyngate Swim Club!!! Opening Day this year is Friday May 25 th, 6:00-8:00PM. Come out to Meet and Greet the Board and the pool staff, including our new manager, David Stragar. Take a dip in the pool, as well, from 6:30-8PM. We will have our yearly Memorial Day Opening Family Supper on Saturday May 26 th. We will again feature Stormin Norman the D.J. at the Family Supper from 4:00-8:00PM. Hours of Operation Weather Permitting Subject to Lifeguard Availability Our normal operating hours are 12:30PM to 8:00PM We open at 3:30PM on any day that MASD has school in session We close at 7:00PM on any night before a MASD school day The pool will close at 5:00PM for our home swim meets and the swim team banquet 2018 Pool Management Last season we returned to using our own pool manager and CPO to run the daily operations. This was very successful and worked well for the pool. This year Wyngate Swim Club will continue to use our own manager for CPO and management duties. We feel this provides us with more overall control of the pool, hiring of the guards, and other management issues. David Stragar will join Wyngate as our Pool Manager this season. He will also serve as our CPO. David worked at Wyngate in the past as a life guard for 2 seasons. He then attended RMU and graduated with a degree in IT and works as a video game instructional video programmer/writer. David comes from years of pool experience that he has learned from his mom who has been running swim clubs for years and is a great mentor. So we have great faith in David that he brings a world of knowledge to Wyngate this year as our new pool manager. He is very excited to be back to a familiar place and has been working very hard to prepare to make this swim season the best yet! We welcome David with open arms and are very excited to have him back!! Welcome David!! We would like to welcome Brittany Cejer as our Assistant Manager this year. This will be her 5 th year at Wyngate, as she has been a great life guard and swim lesson instructor. She is a sophomore at Geneva College, with a major in Elementary and Special Education. Brittany is very excited to continue working at Wyngate and even more excited to take on the role and responsibility of assistant manager, building upon her leadership skills with us. Welcome Brittany!! We would also like to welcome Paige Cejer as head life guard. She has been with us for 4 seasons as a life guard and has done countless swim lessons with many of your children. This will be her 5 th year with Wyngate and she is excited to step up to the plate as head life guard. Paige is a Junior at Geneva college with a major in Communications focusing on integrated media. Paige will fill in as manager when David and Brittany are not at the pool. Welcome Paige!!

2 We want to welcome back all of our life guards as well as a good number of new guards on staff this season. All of our guards go through the Certified Life Guard training. We also do onsite rescue training with the guards. Guest Policy The fee for 2018 Guest Passes will remain $3 per guest, per visit, with a maximum of 3 visits per guest per month. This limit does not include visits while attending parties at a pavilion or any free guest passes from clean-ups. Guests 3 years old or under and senior citizens who are not swimming will not be charged a guest fee. A member must be present at all times when their guests are on the premises. If you will have out of town guests staying for an extended time or special situations, contact our manager, David Stragar, for arrangements. Caregiver Policy An approved caregiver can accompany a child 12 years of age or under and not be subject to the guest fee, provided the child s parents are not present. Caregivers must be registered on the membership list during registration or in advance prior to arrival at the pool. Caregiver information should be listed when you register or provided to our membership director. An approved caregiver must be at least 15 years old. Child Admission without Parent/Caregiver Any child under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult, (parent or caregiver) for the entire time at the pool. Children s Pool The children s pool is reserved for children 6 years old and under. All children not toilet trained are REQUIRED to wear appropriate SWIM DIAPERS while swimming in either pool. The Children s Pool is not monitored by a life guard. Guardians or Caregivers must be present at the Children s Pool area and are responsible for watching their own children. Unattended children may be asked to find their parent/caregiver or may be asked to exit the pool until their parent/caregiver is located. We do allow children to play with a large variety of toys in our pools and we encourage them to have fun. However, due to the children s pool liner with soft plastic base, we do not allow toys with sharp edges or points that could puncture or tear the liner. Plastic rakes, shovels, and sharp utensils will not be allowed in the children s pool. Toy use is at the discretion of the manager and/or guards on duty. Pool Safety Maintaining a safe environment is our highest priority and one of the pillars of Wyngate Swim Club. For any swimmer to enter the deep end of the pool, the person must be able to swim one length of the pool without assistance. If a lifeguard observes a swimmer struggling to stay afloat in the deep area of the pool, the swimmer will be asked to take a deep water test and swim one length of the pool. If the swimmer is unable to complete the test, the swimmer will not be allowed to swim in the deep end. This is done completely for the safety of the swimmer and to avoid a potentially dangerous situation. We are glad to have a diving board and we promote safe diving. We do not allow divers to take more than one bounce on the board. Anyone who tries to double or multiple bounce will be alerted by the lifeguard. Due to a number of prior incidents, we do not allow any dives where the diver starts off

3 backwards on the board. This includes back dives and back flips. We also do not allow any dive where the diver turns back towards the board. This includes inwards and gainers. These rules are for the safety and protection of all members. Our pool does allow most water toys and flotation devices. However, we do not allow floatation devices in the deep end of the pool. Please be considerate of other members when throwing balls, shooting torpedoes, or using other items. Please try to avoid other members when using flotation devices. If a lifeguard sees any activities that are unsafe or dangerous, the life guard will alert any parties involved by blowing the whistle. At times, lifeguards or pool management may ask a child to sit on the side of the pool for not adhering to the rules. This is to correct behavior and is usually for 5-10 minutes. More severe actions may result for repeated violations of the rules. We try to maintain a safe, fun and exciting environment for everyone. If you see any incidents that are troubling or unsafe, please notify the manager on duty. Our pool has a long history of being a great place for swimming, diving, and fun in the sun. Swim Lessons We offer swim lessons which are instructed by our life guards. Swim lessons are set up in packages of 5 lessons of 30 minutes per lesson. The package cost for a single swimmer is $50 or $75 for a semi-private package (two swimmers). Contact the pool manager on duty to arrange for swim lessons, or visit our website to sign up. Wyngate uses the Water Safety Instruction Format of the American Red Cross. This platform allows swimmers to reach various levels of proficiency with clear objectives for each level. Learning to swim is a valuable life skill and we encourage parents to help their children Learn to Swim. Swim Team Our swim team, the Wyngate Sharks, is a member of the Beaver Valley Swim Conference. A child needs to be able to swim one length of the pool without assistance to be eligible to join Swim Team. The swimmers are in good hands with Michelle Carrier as our new swim team coordinator. Michelle will do a fabulous job organizing the team, but she will need a lot of help running meets, especially home meets. We require volunteers per meet to run effectively. We are always looking for people to fill spots like starter, timers, stroke judge, scorers, ribbon writers, 50/50 ticket sales, announcer, plus others. If you don t have any experience, you can sit in with someone during a meet to learn. It is fun and rewarding to be part of our swim team volunteer group. Please consider helping the Sharks. The cost for swim team is $25 per swimmer with a maximum of $60 per family. Practices are held daily Monday through Friday. Practices are generally set up as follows: 9:30am to 10:30am - Swimming for ages 10 and under 10:15am - Dry Land Training for ages :30am to 11:30am - Swimming for ages Each season the Sharks have 5 swim meets and rotate having 2 or 3 at home. We also host a Swim Team Banquet after each season for our Shark swimmers. Dates and times for upcoming meets and the banquet are posted on our website under the Swim Team tab. 4 Over the past 3 seasons, we purchased new swim lane ropes and a lane rope reel to store them. We would like to thank Bobby Rahal Toyota on University Blvd. for a generous donation to our swim team. Please consider this family oriented dealership when looking for your next vehicle. If you know of any businesses or companies that may want to sponsor our swim team, please let Michelle know. We can display their name on our web site and in our entryway. Registration and Web Site It has been 2 years since we started our new web site We have greatly improved our web site and registration process. It has been very user friendly and successful. Registration and payment are completed on the web site. We made an adjustment to payments received by credit card. For those who pay by credit card, a $10 processing fee is passed on to the member dues. Those who pay by check do not incur any processing fee. We started using new addresses for our board members via gmail accounts. These addresses are noted on the web site. For any membership questions, please feel free to reach out to our membership director at membershipwyngate@gmail.com, before, during and after the swim season. We are fortunate to have a great deal of interest in Wyngate Swim Club. As a result, we have a very long wait list that has topped over 200 families. We realize this is very frustrating for those looking to join our club but we are limited in the number of memberships we can handle. Our membership director is diligent in monitoring the wait list and offering spots to those who become eligible. We thank those on the wait list for your patience. Pavilion Rental and Parties We have 2 party pavilions for rent by our members, the Shark Tank (rear) and Fish Bowl (front). These pavilions are excellent, low cost, places to host a fun outdoor summer party. The rental information and contract is on our web site. You can rent the pavilions after pool hours up to 11:00pm. Members are responsible to pay the cost for life guards after 8:00pm. Basic info is noted below: 1-Reservations are made through the social director. Dates must be confirmed by the social director prior to submitting the rental contact and checks. Requested dates are on a first come first serve basis. 2-Your rental time should include set up and clean up time. If your rental time is 4:00 to 8:00, you can begin set up at 4:00 and need to be cleaned up by 8:00. The pool reserves the right to charge for inadequate clean up and/or time overruns. 3-Clean up includes clearing the tables, picking up trash, returning tables and grills to their original location, and sweeping the area. 4-Live entertainment including Disc Jockeys, must end by 9:30 for the benefit of local neighbors. 5-Attendees to your scheduled party do not pay any guest fee. You can view our calendar on our website to check availability for pavilion rentals. And you may contact our pavilion rental director at pavilionwyngate@gmail.com with any questions. Social Events We plan to have a number of fun social events again this summer. Some of our standard events are Family Suppers, Mexican Nights, 4 th of July Brunch, the Biggest Splash Contest, Volleyball Tournament, Back to School Special, and a Labor Day Closing Picnic. We will continue our Movie Nights which are big hits and also the Ice Cream Sundae Fundays. This year we have added our Meet and Greet soft opening and we have some other plans for fun events as well. We also plan to have our annual Dog Swim the

5 day after the pool closes. You can view our calendar of social events on our website. It will be continually updated as the season goes on. Members may sponsor events such as Bunco or other games. These events must be scheduled through the social director. Members must be present at any such function. A lifeguard must be present as well even if you don t intend to swim or use the pool. Let us know if you have ideas for any social events. Once again, our web site posts a calendar so you can check the site for upcoming events, swim meets, and pavilion availability. If you have any questions about social events, feel free to contact our Social Director at socialwyngate@gmail.com Maintenance We provide a free guest pass to members who help on clean-up days. This year we have had a great turnout of volunteers from the membership and the boy scouts, as well returning and new guards to help us with getting the pool ready for this swim season. The board cannot thank you enough for your time and help with the many jobs that we have to conquer to get the pool ready. We really need your help and support to continue to make Wyngate the best. Unfortunately, for a number of years before this one, we have had very little help. As a result, we have had to hire contractors to do jobs like cutting hedges, trimming, painting, and other jobs. We ask that members try to attend at least one clean day to help get the pool ready and looking good. If we don t get more support with clean up days, the add l costs may lead to increased dues in the future. We made significant investments into the pool last year. We have purchased BOB, our new cleaning robot for the pool. BOB has been hard at work this year already. Our new pump continues to work well and keep the water flowing to keep the pool clean. The pool water was much clearer and cleaner throughout last season. We repaired the liner in many areas where it was pulling away from the walls. By using a combination of fiberglass, putty, and/or caulking, we have sealed the liner around the entire perimeter of the pool including the deep end. This will look much better and prevent water from getting behind the liner. We continued to clear the hillside from much of the overgrowth and are getting much better control over it. It is a long stretch of land and we will continue to try to maintain it as best we can. We are in the process of adding 6 security cameras to continuously monitor the parking lot, snack bar, and pool grounds. This is for the protection of the pool and our members. These cameras will act as a deterrent and help monitor the pool when we are closed. All Around Pool Cleanliness We ask that each member clean up their own trash and remind children to do so as well. We also ask that you use the recycle containers for cans and other recyclable items. If everyone helps pick up and clean up, we all benefit with a great looking pool and grounds area.

6 Changes to the Board Our board would like to send out a huge thank you to Scott Lindstrom for his many years of service and dedication on the board. Scott served on the board in many positions, the last being President for the last 3 seasons. Scott has been a very dedicated and devoted member to the board, as well the pool. He cares about the pool and its members and has always gone above and beyond his service to this club. The board is extremely grateful for his years of service and support. Thank you Scott!! We also would like to thank Bobby Hall for his service on the board as vice president. He worked alongside Scott to help keep the pool running smoothly during the on, and off seasons. As well Bobby was our movie night tech. He helped us to run the projector and movie for all to enjoy. Each board member does a significant amount of work on behalf of the club. We do our best to maintain our families, jobs, and other activities as well as contribute to the pool. There is a lot more work in running the pool than most people realize. If you have any ideas on how to make the pool a better place or if you have any problems, feel free to reach out to anyone on the board. Many of our board members have served for quite some time.
