2 GENERAL MISSION/GOALS In USTA Jr. Team Tennis, the team concept emphasizes fun, fitness, and friends. The focus is enjoying the exhilaration of exercise and refining the skills that make tennis fun for players of all ages and levels of competition. The championship events are also designed to: (1) provide a competitive opportunity for maximizing each player s physical and emotional development, (2) promote the spirit of competition and camaraderie which will enhance and strengthen a player s self-esteem, (3) provide a competition environment that focuses more on personal development and less on competitive outcomes USTA JR. Thursday, July 30th - 18U Intermediate Friday, July 31st - 12U and 14U Intermediate 9 am -5pm (Time subject to change) Coaches Check-in by 8:00 am Section Championships Registration Coaches, please register for this event and pay the $140 team entry fee through TennisLink at Please see the registration page (Page 3 of this Handbook) for step by step instructions. TennisLink Registration Deadline Tuesday, July 21st Early registration is encouraged & appreciated. Section staff is available for assistance. Mandatory Championships Conference Call Wednesday, July 22nd 7:00 PM, code # If a coach cannot make it, they must designate someone else to call in for them. However, in order to coach at sections, the coach must be listed as the coach or assistant coach of the given team on TennisLink. 2

3 Registering a Team for Championships Go to Click on Register a Team, under Championships on right hand side. Enter registration number (# s listed below): 12 & U & U Advanced & U Intermediate & U Advanced & U Intermediate Enter team number. If registering multiple teams: enter additional registration # s and team # s in the allotted spaces. Click Proceed to Checkout Enter credit card info. to pay team entry fee. 4 RULES, REGULATIONS, AND SCORING JTT Regulations & Eligibility Your team/players must remain in accordance with the 2015 JTT regulations as stated in the official JTT Regulations Book. Failure to meet requirements will result in ineligibility and/or disqualification. You can find the rules online at: df Please review and abide by ALL rules as stated in rulebook. If you are unsure about a rule or regulation, don t hesitate to ask. Substitution Rules Each team must have a minimum of three (3) boys and three (3) girls who must participate in each and every individual team match (only one girl and one boy may double up for each individual team match). You may substitute a player only if you fall below the minimum of 3 boys and 3 girls. If you are in need of substitute a player, you must choose one from the same local league and the same season. This new addition to your team must have met all the eligibility requirements. Teams are permitted to substitute only one boy OR one girl (not one of each gender). Should a team show up at the event with less players, (ex. 2 boys and 2 girls), they will default gender singles (as per rule 2.03N). They will be allowed to advance to sectionals if they are the first place team at the District Championships. Substitutions must be submitted by July 23rd or there will be a $5 penalty Rain Schedule In the event of rain, please call and listen to instructions. Championship Winners Awards will be given to the teams that finish first and second in all divisions. USTA Sportsmanship Awards At the conclusion of the Section Championships, a Boys and Girls USTA Sportsmanship Award will be awarded from each division of play. Team Managers from opposing teams recommend a girl and boy for every individual team match. 4

5 PLAY FORMAT Order of Play Team matches will be played in the following order (based on 2 courts per team match): Boys & Girls Doubles Boys & Girls Singles 1 Mixed Doubles *Players can only double up in doubles (for example, if you have a player that will be playing twice within a team match, they need to do so in the gender doubles and mixed doubles). *Only one girl and one boy may play twice in a team match. **A player may NOT play 3 times in an individual team match. *It is the coach s discretion to double up players within a team match, but we highly encourage coaches/ team managers to play as many players as possible on the team roster in every match TOURNAMENT DETAILS Player T-shirts All players attending will receive a player T-shirt which will be given to the coach for distribution. Please fill out and return the player roster/t-shirt form on pg. 12 by Wednesday July 22 nd, Lunch Lunch will be provided for players and coaches. We encourage teams to bring personal snacks and beverages. This year players may request which type of sandwich they would like to order. Please provide the lunch selection with the player t-shirt size form. (pg. 12) Publicity Release/Medical Waiver If any or all of your players have not yet filled out the Publicity Release/Medical Waiver, please make sure to have each player who is under 18 have a parent or guardian sign it prior to the event. Each coach should turn these in prior to the start of the event. The Medical Waiver can be found on pg. 13. Advancement: Should your team win in the 14 and 18 divisions division at Section Championships, they will compete at the National Championships!! Take Exit 351 (US-1 exit toward Philadelphia/Trenton). Merge onto US-1 N towards I-95 N/Morrisville and follow until the Whitehead Rd. exit. Take the exit and keep right at the fork onto Whitehead Rd. Turn left onto Sweet Briar Ave./ CR-649 E. Next, take a slight left onto Edinburg Rd./ CR-535 E. Follow this road until you see S. Post Rd/CR-602. Take a left onto S. Post Rd. and the tennis center will be half a mile ahead on the left. Directions from South Jersey: Merge onto I-76 W/I-295 N. Merge onto I-295 N via exit 1B towards Trenton. Take exit 65 A (Sloan Ave. East). Merge onto CR-649 E. Next, take a slight left onto Edinburg Rd./ CR-535 E. Follow this road until you see S. Post Rd/CR-602. Take a left onto S. Post Rd. and the tennis center will be half a mile ahead on the left. Directions from North Jersey: Take the Garden State Parkway S. Take Exit 8 towards Hightstown/Freehold. Merge onto Franklin St./NJ-33. Then, turn left onto N Main St./NJ-33 W/CR-539. Turn right onto Church St./CR-641.
