7 Development Program Our development program is now in his 4 th year of existence and is now structured around four levels summarized below: LEVEL 1. TENNIS IN COMMUNITY AND SCHOOLS Tennis awareness and activities are introduced in specific communities and in kindy and primary schools under the Australian Open Pacific Pathways Program. In 2015, 5 kindies are associated to this program in Port-Vila and 5 primary schools are under this program in Santo. Altogether, tennis has been introduced to over 600 kids this year LEVEL 2. TRANSITION TENNIS Transition Tennis involves kids from primary schools and kindy in Port-Vila only at the moment. Every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday over 80 kids from various schools received a structured tennis lesson at the Port-Vila National Centre. To join these sessions, kids must registered and pay a VT affiliation fee per year to the Vanuatu Tennis Federation. This program is supported by the international Tennis Federation who provides all the equipment and the VASANOC. LEVEL 3. ADVANCED TENNIS Advanced Tennis is oriented to competition. Kids received a full tennis training and can start to enter in the National Tournaments organized by VTF. This program is funded by the International Tennis Federation, VASANOC and the VTF. Over 40 kids are actually at this level. LEVEL 4. NATIONAL JUNIOR ELITE (NJE) This level is reserved to our most brilliant talent and involve fitness/physical preparation and special training session with an orientation towards tactic and strategy. To be in the NJE, you have to be a Ni-Vanuatu citizen or have at least 5 years of residence in Vanuatu, regularly attend training and fitness session, abide by the Junior Code of Conduct and have good results at national and regional competition. Only members of the NJE, can represent our country to regional junior event. This program is funded by the International Tennis Federation under the JTI Program and the VTF. NJE is actually comprised of 15 players. 8 Junior Competition 5 National Competitions were organized in Following advice from ITF Development Officer for Oceania, Darran Wrighton, all the tournaments had now different formats and we introduced a new formula based on a ranking called the Junior Challenge. The new system has been highly successful and has allowed to keep competition challenging. The Junior Challenge will continue in Regionally, our juniors have done extremely well this year, winning for the second time the West-Pacific Regional Championships. Clement Mainguy continued to dominate our juniors but it was also great to see some good success stories for Warea Tigona, Marlin Hannam, Rosalie Molbaleh and Daisy Sipiti finished with our Under 14 Regional Championships. While the tournament was smaller this year, we enjoyed a great week of tennis with a lot of drama and for the first time some great doubles 8
9 Officiating A first introductory course to officiating was organized on the 7 th and 8 th December. The course aims at: 1. Preparing Ni-Vanuatu officials to officiate for the 2017 Mini-Games; 2. Preparing Ni-Vanuatu officials to officiate at Junior Tournament in 2016 and onwards. Daniella Tigona, Kasiroy tigona, Marc Runa, Michael Malapa, Pierre Takataveti, Tamata Quari, Wilson Kalpat, Daisy Sipiti participated to the training. The content of the training was taken from two sources: - The ITF Officiating Course that VTF paid prior to the training. This package contents two CD about officiating and the rules of the games; - Tennis Australia Officials Training Program documents as it can be found on df The following aspects were studied: Rules of the Game simplified version; Code of Conduct for Officials simplified version; Code of Conduct for Players full version; How to use a scorecards; Chair and line umpiring following ITF standard. The theoretical parts of the training were followed by on-court practices and all the candidates finished with a test. All the participants were actively involved and demonstrated some good knowledge of the games. Following the training, all trainees officiated at the U14 Regional Championships. In one week, we manage to have 120 matches officiated with no problems. Players and parents were satisfied with the chair-umpires work. Participants during the course Marc Runa officiating during the U14 Regional Junior 9 Chanpionships
10 Relationships with stakeholders We have continued to enjoy in 2015 great relationships with our funding agencies, sponsors and partners. Two new programs have been introduced in 2015: -The Australian Open Pacific Pathways which focuses on schools; -- The Santo Tennis Initiative with the financial support of the Department of Youth and Sports. This program has been possible with the support of the Hibiscus Motel and the great work done by our focal point in Santo: Lois Delattre. VTF received financial support from the International Olympic Committee via the VSANOC and from Tennis Australia, New-Caledonia Southern Tennis Clubs and the ITF to help us rebuild the tennis centre. All the donations will reported in a separate financial report. VTF in the media We published 6 Press Releases in 2015 all relayed by the Independent and on our Facebook page. Our Facebook Page has now 1033 members. In November, our website was re-launched following a course organized by VASANOC: 10
