1 Page 1 Edition : 1 March June 2016 From the Secretary S DeSk Dear Friends It gives me great privilege to present the first quarterly News Letter of the MSLTA. It is the endeavor of me and my colleagues at the MSLTA council to ensure proper communication with all our stake holders and the News letter is the right tool. We will now be publishing the MSLTA news letter every quarter to keep you abreast with the various activities at MSLTA from time to time " Make Hay while the Sun shines" is an old English Adage and the Management of MSLTA did all its bit to ensure that the Summer Vacations of Kids were well spent and rewarding. The BVG- B1 Asian Championships was hosted by us for the first time in Pune. Indian girl Pranjala Yadlapalli made it to the finals, our own players Snehal Mane, Siddanth Banthia, Mihika Yadav, Shivani Ingle, Jitisha Shastri, Christian Cummings, Aryan Banthia and Kaivalya Kalamse got an opportunity to play the event. These players not only immensely benefited by securing ITF but also the sheer experience of having got to play the high level event. Our affiliates Chembur Gymkhana,Dadar Club, Wodehouse Gymkhana, Khar Gymkhana, Shivaji Park Gymkhana, Goregaon Sports Club, CCI, Deccan Gymkhana, PMDTA, PYC Hindu Gymkhana, organized various MSLTA and AITA national ranking events. Hotel Ravine based in the cooler chimes of Panchgani - Mahableshwar professionally organized three events. A record of all sorts was created in the Week of 7 May with Children in All Age Groups from Under 10 to the Mens and Ladies being engaged in events.pune hosted 4 of these events through our affiliate PMDTA. Pune also hosted the ATF Under 14 After a gap of decade MSLTA management decided to start back tennis camps for players the first Camp saw India's Top Coaches Nandan Bal and Rama Rao conduct preparatory Camps for Under 12 and Under 16 children with a view to prepare the Maharashtra players and acclimatize them for the Ramesh Desai Under 12 and 16 Nationals.As a part of ongoing educational program and knowledge empowerment for coaches MSLTA organized two seminars in Pune and Mumbai on Bio Mechanics in tennis by Dr.Edouard Ferdinands head of the sports bio -mechanics research program at the University of Sydney Over 100 coaches attended the seminar. It was a proud moment for us as state boy Siddanth Banthia lifted the Ramesh Desai Under 16 Nationals at the MSLTA courts state girl Salsa Aher finished semifinals in the girls event, at the Under 12 Nationals which was hosted successfully by CCI state boy Arjun Gohad reached the last four MSLTA also hosted the Annual Scholarship programme after the finals of the Ramesh Desai Under 16 na tionals 3 0 to p t en nis play ers from Maharas h tra w h o wer e aw ar de d the annual MSLTA Annual Scholarships, top performing players in 2015 were felicitated at the hands of Kishor Patil founder and MD of KPIT who are also the sponsors of the KPIT-MSLTA ATP. The top 3 players in each age groups in the state, were awarded scholarships worth over Rs 5, 50,000 Lakhs including funds for international training. Special Awards were also given to coaches Kedar Shah and Sandeep Kirtane From January to June we have hosted around 55 events this has been only possible with the support of all our Clubs in Maharashtra and Sponsors Yonex Sunrise and the entire Council and staff of MSLTA Come June another Chapter will unfold in form of the Junior Tennis, This is just the beginning as we at MSLTA is planning a whole lot of activities in the coming year including training camps and a very detailed MSLTA Vision Programme, Our sincere effort is to provide opportunities to players of all standards without looking at results, All of Us in the MSLTA Management committee strongly believe that by charting a path for young players we will surely help to create new stars on the horizon soon Sunder Iyer Hon Secretary MSLTA MSLTA to Launch Vision 2020 program, 111 Players from across state to be part of the programme Mumbai : 111 boys and girls in the age group of Under 10 to professional tennis players from Maharashtra will be a part of the Vision 2020 program to be launched by country's foremost sports organization Maharashtra State Lawn tennis Association (MSLTA). The first of its kind of program will not only benefit players from big cities like Pune and Mumbai but even players from the smallest tennis playing towns in the state.out of the 111 players, 40 players are from the other districts than Pune and Mumbai. " We had fair success with the MSLTA vision programme launched in 2010, 10 players from the state played in the Junior Grand Slams, one player represented India in the Davis Cup while two girls made it to the Indian Fed Cup team, however we could only hand hold them till the junior stage, we have not been able to achieve real success once our players reached the professional level said Mr Bharat Oza President of MSLTA and Sunder Iyer Hon Secretary of MSLTA. We have decided to increase the base of our program and encompass talented children in all age groups, this will help us to build a formidable talented players pool which we will be monitoring on a quarterly basis, they added. The ELITE PLAYER pyramid program which is the brainchild of Hon Secretary of MSLTA Sunder Iyer, ITF Level 7 Coach Hemant Bendrey, Chief Coach of MSLTA Manoj Vaidya and former President of MSLTA Sharad Kannamwar We want to ensure we have many more national champions and players who are representing India from Maharashtra in future through The Vision 2020 program Pyramid that we have envisaged added Iyer.. In case some player suddenly does well in rankings he or she will be immediately inducted into the group while those players showing inconsistency will be shunted out of the program making it competitive. Said Iyer Medals, trophies, and championships are not things that happen by chance, they happen only when processes are in place that we can nurture and support the growth and development of player's - from grass-root level through to high performance. The idea of this program is to imbibe fundamental sports skills, Training player to Compete - and help player to reach the pinnacle of tennis using all available science and technology, said Iyer. He added that we want to develop our players into professional athletes using a separate model that incorporates the mental, physical, technical + game strategy, and personal development. Some of the features for the players selected for the high performance program would include Physical Conditioning, Mental Training, Sports Vision, Sports Biomechanics, Game Strategy & Game Awareness, Injury Prevention, Video Analysis, Sports Education, Grooming & Etiquette, Parents Mentoring Program, Lifestyle Training and Diet, The other highlight of the new program apart from training, will include monetary rewards and bonuses for players Top 8 boys and girls from under-10 age group as per MSLTA rankings and 4 players from the Road to MSLTA program comprising players from the Interiors of the state will be selected in the Promising Kids Program, the next group named Rising Kids will have top two under 10 players from the last year rankings 5 to 8th ranked players from the under 12 players list as per AITA ranking Top four players in the under 12 category and 5 to 8th ranked under 14 players in the state as per AITA ranking will be selected in the Future Kids Group, while the Young Stars group will feature top four players in the under 14 category and 5-8 ranked under 16 players The Challenger Group will include top 4 boys and girls players in the under 16 age group and 5th to 8th ranked players from the u-18 category. To nurture the Mens and womens players they will form the Elite group where Top 8 Mens and Top 6 Womens players who are ranked in ATP and the AITA rankings will be selected, this players will get Daily Allowances for attending camps and tournaments which will help them to support their tennis expenses on the professional level. Iyer added that With all the work put in by MSLTA in the last decade, the base is stronger and so are the performances of Maharashtra players at the junior and sub junior players,our National Champions and Runners up will make up our VISION PROSPECT group. The criteria for the group has been fixed, those players who are AITA ranked Top 12 players in India in boys & girls u-14 / 16, or AITA Top 20 players in 1st year of his / her age group, or Top 5 in AITA ranking in previous age group (u-12/14) or National Champions have been included. Under this program Yearly Scholarships, Advanced coaching Camps ( National and international), Player monitoring & analysis, Advisory on selection of competitions etc will be offered to players by experts. The VISION program launched in 2010 will be pinnacle of the Pyramid Currently the program has 6 Players who are in the Top 6 rankings in India from u/16, u/18, Mens & Womens category, National champions from u-16 & u-18. These Six players receive Quarterly scholarships / reimbursement as per gradation, International exposure camps which include 100% training fees, Reimbursement of air tickets for entry in Grand Slams

In the finals, Mithali Shetty scored a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. A win over Kundali Majgaine. Unseeded Anurag Reddy defeated Anup Bangargi 6/1, 6/3. 8 Page 8 MSLTA Supervisor Refresher course MSLTA organizes Seminar on Biomechanics by world renowned expert Dr. Edouard Ferdinands for tennis coaches MSLTA conducted a Supervisor Refresher Workshop to keep its supervisors updated with the new rules and regulations and also to give a feel and make them understand the entry procedure of the new App that MSLTA will be using from April. This is part of the ongoing training and education program initiated by MSLTA for its coaches and officials. 30 supervisors, Asst supervisors from entire Maharashtra attended the workshop conducted by Gold Badge referee Sheetal Iyer at the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association in Mumbai. Road to MSLTA camp, Solapur A part of ongoing educational program and knowledge empowerment for coaches, MSLTA organized a one day seminar on Bio Mechanics in tennis. Over 40 coaches from the Mumbai region attended the Seminar which was coordinated by Senior Coaches Hemant Bendrey and Manoj Vaidya. The Seminar was conducted by Dr.Edouard Ferdinands head of the sports bio -mechanics research program at the University of Sydney a world expert in cricket bio mechanics. Ferdinands also has developed the first three-dimensional inverse and forward solutions models of bowling in cricket. Road to MSLTA camp was successfully completed at Solapur. The camp was conducted by senior coach Himanshu Gosavi and was organized at the MSLTA school of tennis complex at Solapur. 20 boys and girls in age group of took part in the camp. The players were selected in basis of road to MSLTA tournament organized in every district and zone in Maharashtra. Vice President Rajeev Desai and Solapur District Lawn Tennis Association organized the event successfully. 50 coaches from across Pune attended the biomechanics workshop by Dr Edouard Ferdinands organized by MSLTA in association with PMDTA at PYC Hindu Gymkhana. Pre National Coaching Camp The four days Pre - National under 12 and under 16 Intensive Coaching Camp were successfully completed at MSLTA. The camp was conducted by Mr. Manoj Vaidya, Mr. Nandan Bal, and Mr. D.S. Rama Rao and was organized by the MSLTA. 22 Boys and Girls in the age group of 12 and 16 took part in the camp.
