We recently held the Mid Summer tourney and the weather was warm, but not too hot. Tammie did a great job (per usual) in putting together a great tourney. And Sally is picking up the reins and will be running more events like this soon. Lots of player have joined in the fun of Summer Singles league. If you haven t signed up yet, still plenty of time as the season continues until late September. You can sign up at Wow, lots of tennis court activity going on. All 12 Northgate courts are being totally redone. And construction of a new instructional tennis court and 2 new Pickle ball courts, with lights at Heather has begun! OUR voice counts. If you want to show support at a city meeting, contact me. PROS meet 1st Monday of even numbered month. City council 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month, all at City hall at 6pm. Congratulations to our WCRC teams that are moving into playoffs and beyond, so many! Be well and we will see you on the courts! Summer Is Here! As temperatures heat up, Lifetime Activities would like to remind our patrons to exercise caution in the hotter weather. Sun protection (sunscreen, hats, sunglasses) and light-colored clothing are recommended. Stay safe and hydrated! See you on the courts! Improvements and Changes at the WCTC Lifetime Activities is happy to announce that, construction has begun on an additional tennis court and two new pickleball courts at our facility. Please note that all our existing courts will be functional, but court access may be limited. Estimated completion is Fall WC City Council has approved new the new fee structure set to be effective Jan 1st, For more information, please contact Isabella Galang at isabellag@lifetimeactivities.com. Please see page 18 for details. Summer Classes & Camps Summer camp registration is ongoing. Fall session registration open August 13th. You can register and preview offerings online on our website: or stop by the office. Monthly Pass Holder s Specials: All Court Usage Pass Holders are invited to participate in our annual US Open Party on Friday, August 31 st from 8-10pm. Please sign up at the office. The event is FREE for Court Usage Passholders. We are also offering one free ice cream sandwich for passholders. Only one per passholder, please. No substitutions. Want to Play with the Pro?: Our USPTA Certified Pro Duncan Leiggi will be hosting Round Robin Clinics every Friday (8-10PM) and Sunday (3-5PM). This team has played together, for the most part, over the past 3 years, and besides having so much fun, have played some amazing tennis! 6 Tennis News Men s team WC vs WC! by Tammie Snyder Every season every league it seems we have so many amazing Walnut Creek teams out of Heather Farm that it s bound to happen that we meet up against each other in playoffs time and time again. We had the privilege of meeting Sean s 4.0 Men s team once again. After losing two close regular season matches it was time to throw down for playoffs. We had some great line ups and either team could have easily won this match. Three super tie breakers decided this match with the final tie breaker going to to decide who moved on to playoffs. Sean s team prevailed and we wish them the best of luck as they move on to Districts. Make Diablo North and Walnut Creek proud! We believe in you! 7 Tennis News Women s team WC vs WC! by Tammie Snyder Speaking of WC to WC teams, Women s teams in two flights ended up in playoffs. Tina Sorensen Berman s and Tammie Snyder s team have always had a compeitive rivalry and this season was no difference. Although our team came up short in the end against Tina s team. 8 Tennis News WC Men s 4.5 C - Ready for Districts!!! by Elliot Feinberg Walnut Creek 4.5 MC caps off a successful local season by winning both playoff matches to advance to District championships in Sacramento. They played the first round against the 4 th place Lafayette team and won 4-1. They met another Walnut Creek team (Captained by Victor Lioz) in the second round. It was a close match (with 4 of 5 lines going three sets!), but the team managed to win 5-0. Carlos, Matt, and the rest of the team look forward to a strong performance at Districts. 9 Tennis News WC Women s On To Districts!!! by Susan Sovik The WC Womens 3.5B team, Captained by Lisa Italia and Susan Sovik, swept their final play off match to punch their ticket to Districts! The second round took place at Rudgear Park, which had never seen such a crowd! Both sides brought chairs and a large cheering section, as well as awesome players. Congratulations ladies. Keep it going at Districts. 10 Mid-Summer Tennis We had an excellent tournament on Saturday with warm weather and clear skies. Thank you first to our amazing photographers Glenn "I'm leaving now but never left" McBee and Bobby Satcher! Additional thanks to Brian Dang who came in with a two hour notice and played the tournament for me! Thank you to Sally Krapf who handled food and learned how to run the tournament and handled it flawlessly. Congratulations to our Division winners!! Division I 4th place - Red Team: Christine Overby, Richard Overby, Becky Whisenhunt, Dexter Loo finished with 36 points 3rd place - Yellow Team: Shelley Bain, Brian Dang, Kelly Anderson, Patrick Forden finished with 37 points 2nd place - Blue Team: Kayla Hornbrook, Matt Starke, Shannon Roecklein, Bob Satcher finished with 58 points 1st place - White Team: Barbara Beckley, Ralph Sanzeri, Betsy Gwynn, Doug Fish finished with 61 points Division II 4th place - Orange Team: Shawnley Walton, Cameron Coltharp, Regina Hughes, Kevin Kyono finished with 33 points 3rd place - Green Team: Susan Aneja, Jay Dunlavy, Pam Maloney, Justin Snyder finished with 35 points (but were definitely best dressed team!) 2nd place - Purple Team: Pru Pruden, Troy Rondeau, Tammie Snyder, Darien Lum finished with 49 points 1st place - Pink Team: Marilyn Meganck, Ryan Meganck, Rebecca Reiss, Garvin Tom finished with 65 points.
