2 Season Practices Competition August October 5 Practices per week (some Saturdays) 2 Matches per week (18 matches) 4:00 PM; 5:00 PM; 6:00 PM At the High School level all practices, meetings, and competitions become mandatory

4 Athletic Clearance Prospective Players should be cleared by August 1, 2018 Before attending any official practice, a player must have an Athletic Clearance Card Athletic Clearance Includes: AIA Physical History and Exam signed by Physician Parent Permission and Student Domicile Form Emergency Contact Information Athletic Participation Fee

6 What to Expect at Volleyball Tryouts Players are expected to work hard and be ready Team Selection Criteria (in this order) Attitude Physical Ability and/or Potential Positional Skill and/or Potential Player Evaluations will be based on Athletic Testing, coach s Attitude Evaluation, and Skills/Competition Evaluation Complete information regarding Tryout Procedures is available at the Pre-Tryout Informational Meeting in July

8 Volleyball Off-Season Program is voluntary All activities are designed to improve the Team as well as all our Players Players must have a Physical on file before participating in any off-season activity Strength/Speed Training UA Volleyball Team Camp Ironwood Ridge Volleyball Camps Open Beach

9 Strength/Speed Training Strength/Speed Training Strength/Speed Sessions are May-July Three times per week Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: 6:30 AM-8:00 AM Cycles are planned for rest and recovery Goals for the Strength/Speed Sessions All sessions are supervised Performance (Cycles are aligned with UAVB program) Injury Prevention Players must have a Physical on file

11 UA Volleyball Team Camp UA Volleyball Team Camp IRVB will send teams to the UA IRVB-Navy: Returning Varsity Players IRVB-Silver: Prospective Varsity Players IRVB-White: Prospective Junior Varsity Players IRVB-Green: Prospective Freshmen Camp Tuition is $150/per player Submit Registration Form by June 10, 2018

13 Off-Season Summer Expectations All Off-Season Activities are Optional Attendance is not taken during the summer, and it is generally NOT used during Player Evaluations Please do not confuse off-season training with tryouts. Off-season is an opportunity for all prospective players to be a part of the program. Participation in off-season activities does not guarantee a uniform in the Fall, it guarantees only that if a player works hard during the offseason and participate, they will improve.

14 Off-Season Summer Expectations Team Selections is tough at all levels here Be as prepared as you can (Build your Resume) Enjoy the process (Build your Character) Please keep in mind the four player scenarios Player A (Participates in everything makes the cut) Player B (Minimal or no participation makes the cut) Player C (Participates in everything doesn t make it) Player D (Minimal or no participation doesn t make it) Club Volleyball is not considered an IRVB activity

17 Volleyball Tryouts Does a player need to attend all the tryout sessions that are listed? What if they are not cleared on time? Players need to attend all tryout sessions until otherwise notified by the coaching staff. Failure to attend all sessions for any reason could adversely effect any potential placement on a team. If not cleared, players are encouraged to sit and watch the tryouts to understand the drills and concepts that will be taught.

18 Off-Season Participation Will a player be penalized if they are not able to attend the volleyball camps and off-season? No. Keep in mind that off-season participation may help a player. However, it will never hurt a player s chances to make a team.

19 The Club Volleyball Myth Is it true that players need to play club volleyball in order to make the team at Ironwood Ridge? No. Club volleyball is an individual commitment and may help enhance individual skills in the off-season, but it not required by this high school program.

21 The Height Factor My daughter is short and heard that only the TALL players make the team. Is this true? No. Well, maybe Each sport has it s body and while being 300 lbs will help a lineman on the football team, length is always a good thing in volleyball. Athletic testing will reveal the quick (and tall player) for positional needs of the volleyball program.

22 Freshman on Junior Varsity If a freshman wants to tryout for the Junior Varsity team, do they attend those sessions? Do we the coach? No. During the Junior Varsity and Freshman Player Evaluations, the players will be ranked and assigned for Team Selections where appropriate addressing both the needs for the 1) the volleyball program, and 2) the individual player.

23 Balancing the Student-Athlete Life How overwhelming is the volleyball season? My daughter is concerned about her grades during the first semester. Like all sports on campus, a big-time commitment will be required to meet the expectations. IRVB provides a support system: coaches/mentors; IRVB conducts grade checks every other week; IRVB 2015 (Program) Cumulative GPA: 3: Varsity Team: 3.730

24 Other Club Sports during the Fall Season Are student s able to play club sports like basketball, soccer, or softball during the season? Every year we have athletes that participate in club sports during the volleyball season. IRVB allows participation as long as the high school season is the priority during any conflict. Players are not allowed to miss or leave early from practice to attend a club event.

25 Amphitheater District Athletic Participation Fee If my daughter doesn t make a team, do we get a refund of the participation fee? Yes. The bookstore will issue refunds (or apply to another sport) for all students that do not make the volleyball team.
