MATCH INFORMATION Match 14: Wednesday, October 4-7 p.m. #13 UCLA at Arizona (McKale Center) TV: Pac-12 Networks National and Los Angeles BRUINS ON THE ROAD FOR FIRST TIME IN PAC-12 PLAY The 13th-ranked Bruins head out on the road for the fi rst time in Pac-12 play, facing Arizona on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Arizona State on Friday at 8 p.m. Both matches will air on Pac- 12 Networks Los Angeles (National broadcast on Wednesday). WHAT S NEXT? The Bruins return home next weekend to host the Bay Area teams at Pauley Pavilion. UCLA entertains #2 Stanford on Friday, Oct. 13 at 6 p.m. and California on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. Both matches will be broadcast by Pac-12 Networks and will feature free live audio on UCLABruins.com. BRUINS IN THE POLLS Out of seven AVCA polls in, the Bruins have been ranked 11th three times, and now this week, UCLA is ranked 13th for the fourth time this season and second in a row. The Bruins lost 75 points in the standings. Eight teams ranked in the current Top 25 are on UCLA s schedule (#2 Stanford, #4 Nebraska, #9 Washington, #15 USC, #16 Oregon, #17 Utah, #19 San Diego and #25 Colorado). In the Pac-12 Conference Preseason Poll, UCLA is fi fth, receiving 83 points. NEWS AND NOTES Senior Sarah Sponcil comes into this week s play ranked 24th in the nation in assists per set (11.19), while sophomore Madeleine Gates is 32nd in blocks per set (1.39). As a team, the Bruins are 42nd in hitting percentage (.256) and 45th in aps (12.96)... junior Zana Muno is second among Pac-12 players in digs per set at Sponcil is third in aps, Gates is sixth in bps and senior Reily Buechler is ninth in kills per set (3.17). As a team, the Bruins are second in dps (15.83)... a dozen times this season, a Bruin has served at least two aces in a match. Freshman Mac May has done it fi ve times, junior Kyra Rogers three times, sophomore Savvy Simo twice and Sponcil and freshman Jenny Mosser have done it once... Rogers has hit over.400 in fi ve matches this season, setting a career high with a.588 percentage at Hawai i on Aug. 27. She has four double-fi gure kills matches for her career, all this year, posting a season-best 14 at Long Beach State on Sept. 15. Rogers also has an ace in seven matches, including four of her last six... Buechler is three kills away from 1,300 for her career, and she currently sits 20th in UCLA history in kills (1,297). Next up on the list are Elisabeth Bachman (19th, 1,308) and Lauren Fendrick (18th, 1,356). Buechler, who leads the team with 10 double-fi gure kills matches, has six in a row, including a season-best 21 with a.465 hitting percentage against Washington State on Sunday. Buechler has double-doubles in four of her last fi ve to give her 21 for her career... Mosser has double fi gures in kills in six straight matches, including a career-high 17 against WSU. She is averaging 3.25 kps in her last half a dozen contests. Mosser also has a pair of double-doubles during that span, posting 1.96 digs per set... Muno has double fi gures in digs in nine of her 12 matches, including three straight. She has at least six digs in each contest. Muno went over 20 digs for the fourth time this season with 23 versus WSU, with the junior s career high being 34 at Hawai i (Aug. 27)... She has at least seven digs in seven consecutive contests... Sponcil leads the Bruins with seven double-doubles and she has three in a row after posting 46 assists and 16 digs against WSU and 40 assists and 17 digs versus Washington (Sept. 29). She has at least six digs in every match and at least 40 assists in fi ve in a row. Sponcil has also provided three kills in each of her last three matches... May produced her secondbest hitting percentage of the year against WSU when she had eight kills and just one error in 15 attempts (.467). She has double fi gures in kills in six matches. The team leader in aces with 13 has multiple aces in a contest fi ve times... Gates has at least seven kills in seven matches in a row, including 17 against Oregon on Sept. 22. She did not commit a hitting error versus UO in 29 attempts for a.586 percentage. Defensively, Gates has a team-best seven matches with at least fi ve blocks, including a career-high 10 against San Diego (Aug. 25). SCOUTING THE ARIZONA WILDCATS Arizona (7-6, 1-3 Pac-12) has lost three in a row to California in fi ve, Stanford in three and Washington State in four since sweeping its league opener at Arizona State. As a team, the Wildcats are averaging kills, 0.86 aces, digs and 2.53 blocks per set, hitting.227 as a team. Four players are averaging at least 2.00 kps, led by junior Kendra Dahlke s Junior Tyler Spriggs is second at 2.86 kps, followed by freshman Paige Whipple (2.46) and redshirt freshman Elizabeth Shelton (2.34). Sophomore Julia Patterson handles the setting duties and is posting assists per set. Senior Kimberly Gutierrez is fi rst with 2.90 dps, while sophomore Devyn Cross is tops with 1.05 bps. THE SERIES: BRUINS VS. WILDCATS UCLA leads the all-time series with Arizona 54-25, but will be looking to snap a three-match losing streak to the Wildcats. The Bruins lost in three in Tucson and in fi ve in Westwood a year ago. UCLA s last win in the series was a sweep at home on Oct. 16, The Bruins, who are in Tucson, have lost fi ve straight at the McKale Center (three by sweep and twice in fi ve sets). UCLA s last victory at Arizona was a fi ve-set triumph on Oct. 15, SCOUTING THE ARIZONA STATE SUN DEVILS Arizona State (10-6, 0-4 Pac-12) has been swept in three of its four league losses, while losing in fi ve to then-#7 Washington. The Sun Devils are averaging kills, 0.82 aces, digs and 2.18 blocks per set, hitting.242 as a team. Senior Oluoma Okara leads the squad with 4.61 kps, freshman Griere Hughes is second at 2.96 kps and sophomore Ivana Jeremic is third with 2.79 kps. Freshman Shelbie Dobmeier (11.63 assists per set) and sophomore Nicole Peterson (10.32) split the setting duties. Senior Halle Harker is tops on the team with 5.36 dps, while junior Carmen Unzue is fi rst with 0.96 bps. THE SERIES: BRUINS VS. SUN DEVILS UCLA leads the all-time series against Arizona State and has won four in a row (three sweeps and one in fi ve). UCLA is 31-7 at Arizona State, with the Sun Devils last victory being a fi vesetter in Tempe in MAC MAY NAMED PAC-12 FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK Mac May was named Pac-12 Conference Freshman of the Week on Sept. 25 after producing a pair of double-fi gure kills matches in two contests. May s award marks the second time this season she has been named Pac-12 FOW. May had 12 kills and hit.391 in a victory over then-#8 Oregon (Sept. 22). She added four digs and two blocks. On Sept. 20 against then-#21 USC, May notched 13 kills, fi ve digs and four blocks to go with three aces to tie a season high. The Freshman of the Week plaudit is the eighth for the Bruins since the award was implemented in May and junior Zana Muno were named Pac-12 Freshman and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, on Aug. 28. BUECHLER HITS 21 AS #13 BRUINS BEAT WAZZU Senior Reily Buechler had a season-best 21 kills to go with a.465 hitting percentage and six digs, while senior Sarah Sponcil recorded her third double-double in a row with 46 assists and 16 digs, as the 13th-ranked Bruins knocked off Washington State in four sets on Sunday at Pauley Pavilion. Set scores were 25-12, 25-12, 22-25, Junior Zana Muno had 23 digs, freshman Jenny Mosser added 17 kills and seven digs and freshman Mac May recorded eight kills with a.467 percentage, committing just one error in 15 attempts. Sophomore Madeleine Gates had seven kills and four blocks, sophomore Savvy Simo posted eight digs and junior Kyra Rogers notched fi ve kills and fi ve digs. The Bruins hit.294 for the match. UCLA (9-4, 2-2 Pac-12) led from start to fi nish in set one, scoring the match s fi rst fi ve points on a Rogers/May block, a Buechler/Gates roof and three Washington State errors. At 9-4, two Mosser kills, a Rogers solo block and a WSU error put UCLA up The Bruins lead reached double fi gures for the fi rst time at 15-5 and went as high as 14 at The Cougars saved the fi rst two set points, but a Mosser kill completed a victory. Mosser was error-free with fi ve kills in nine swings, while Gates added three kills. Muno tallied six digs. The Bruins hit.357 and held the Cougars to a percentage. Washington State (12-4, 1-3 Pac-12) scored three of the fi rst four of set two, and led by one as late as 6-5, but a 4-1 Bruin run on three Mosser kills and one by Buechler gave the home team the lead for good. At 15-10, UCLA scored four in a row on kills by Buechler, Gates and May and a bad set by WSU. The lead got to double digits for the fi rst time at 22-12, as the Bruins scored the last fi ve points of the set on kills by Buechler and Sponcil, a Buechler ace, a Gates/Sponcil block and a Mosser kill to win the second Buechler was error-free with six kills in 11 attempts, Mosser added fi ve kills and May was 4-for-5 with no miscues. Muno posted seven digs. The Bruins out-hit the Cougars The Bruins jumped out to an 8-2 lead in set three on three Buechler kills, two May aces, a Rogers ace and two Cougar errors, and led by as many as fi ve as late as before a big comeback by the visitors. Washington State scored six straight to take its fi rst lead of the set at Two Mosser kills put the Bruins back up, but the next four went to Washington State to give the Cougars a edge. The Bruins lead got to eight at 13-5 before the Cougars had thoughts of another comeback thanks to a 5-0 run. But UCLA netted the

The Bruins hit.371 to the Cougars.000 clip. #13 BRUINS FALL IN FOUR TO #6 WASHINGTON Senior Reily Buechler (14 kills, 12 digs), senior Sarah Sponcil (40 assists, 17 digs) and freshman Jenny Mosser (12 kills, 11 digs) all had double-doubles, but the 13th-ranked Bruins dropped a four-setter to #6 Washington on Friday at Pauley Pavilion. Set scores were 25-18, 20-25, 22-25, Junior Zana Muno recorded 15 digs, sophomore Madeleine Gates had nine kills, junior Kyra Rogers added eight kills, sophomore Savvy Simo tallied six digs and freshman Mac May posted six kills. The Bruins hit.193 for the match. UCLA (8-4, 1-2 Pac-12) dropped fi ve of the fi rst six points of the match, but would come back during the middle stages of the opener to take the fi rst. Still down by as many as four at 9-5, the Bruins scored seven of nine to take their fi rst lead of the match at Rogers had a pair of kills, Buechler and Mosser each recorded one and Washington made three hitting errors. After a sideout by the Huskies, six in a row for the Bruins on three Buechler kills and three UW errors put the home team up by a half a dozen. The Bruins largest lead of the set was eight at following a Rogers/Mosser block. On their second set point, a Mosser kill fi nished up a victory. Buechler and Rogers each had four kills in the opener, while Muno and Sponcil both notched six digs. The Bruins out-hit the Huskies.294 to.108. Washington (13-1, 3-0 Pac-12) led from start to fi nish in set two, racing out to another 5-1 lead. The Huskies largest advantage was seven on a few occasions, as the Bruins scored back-to-back points just fi ve times in the set, dropping the second Mosser had four kills in the set, Gates and May each tallied three and Sponcil recorded seven digs, as the Bruins were out-hit.282 to.225. Just like the fi rst two sets, Washington stormed out to a 5-1 lead in the third, and just like the second, the Huskies didn t trail. Washington led by as many as seven on a few occasions. Down 20-13, the Bruins scored fi ve in a row on two Buechler kills and three UW errors to get to within two, but UCLA would get no closer, dropping the set Buechler recorded six kills, Mosser added four and Muno and Simo each totaled four digs, as the Bruins were out-hit.361 to.244. Washington copied things in the fourth, again taking a 5-1 edge in the set and leading wire-to-wire. The Huskies largest lead was 13 at The Bruins saved three set points on a Washington error, a Rogers/Sponcil block and a Mosser kill, but the Huskies claimed the fourth by a score of Gates recorded four kills, while Buechler had six digs, as the Bruins were out-hit.241 to.000. Sealy has an overall record of for a.715 winning percentage and guided the Bruins to a National Championship in Last season, the Bruins went 27-7 and tied for second in the Pac-12 Conference (15-5). UCLA, which won its fi rst seven matches for its best start to a season since 2006, won 10 times against ranked teams, including a season sweep of eventual national champion Stanford, the fi rst sweep of the Cardinal since 2011, as well as a sweep of cross-town rival USC. The Bruins reached a Regional Semifi nal for the third year in a row, while also making its fi rst Regional Final appearance since UCLA ranked sixth in the nation in digs and assists per set a year ago and 13th in kills per set, while also ranking fi rst in the conference in dps and aps and second in kps. Four Bruins picked up VolleyballMag.com All-American honors, as Taylor Formico, the back-to-back Pac-12 Libero of the Year, was named to the First Team, Reily Buechler to the Third Team and Jordan Anderson and Jennie Frager to the Honorable Mention Team. Those four, plus Torrey Van Winden (First Team), were selected to the AVCA All-Region Team, while all fi ve were honored on the All-Pac-12 squads. In 2015, the Bruins posted a record of 25-8, placing fourth in the Pac-12 (14-6). Three Bruins were named AVCA All-Americans, tying for the most awards in a single season in school history. Formico earned Third Team honors, while Anderson and Claire Felix picked up Honorable Mention nods. All three players were also named AVCA Pacifi c South All-Region First Team, and a total of six Bruins were on the All-Pac-12 squads. Formico was the league Libero of the Year and All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention, Anderson was named First Team and Felix, Buechler, Frager and Zana Muno each notched Honorable Mention plaudits. In the summer of 2016, Sealy was the head coach of the Pac-12 All-Star volleyball team which traveled to China in June. In 2014, the Bruins fi nished and in a tie for fourth in the Pac-12 (11-9), reaching the NCAA Regional Semifi nals. Five Bruins were named to the All-Pac-12 Teams, as Karsta Lowe earned All-Pac-12, All-Region and AVCA All-America First Team accolades, while Buechler, Formico and Julie Consani were All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention. UCLA led the country in kills (15.10) and assists (14.26) per set in 2014, the fi rst time the Bruins led the nation in a stat category since 1997, while Lowe was tops in the country in kills and points per set. A trio of Bruins were named to the All-Pac-12 Teams in 2013, as Lowe earned First Team to go with her AVCA All-Region First Team and All-America Honorable Mention accolades. UCLA went 15-15, recording a 6-14 mark in Pac-12 play. In 2012, the Bruins posted a 23-8 record, fi nishing in a tie for fourth in the Pac-12 with a 14-6 mark and advancing to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. Two Bruins, Rachael Kidder and Tabi Love, were named All-American, All-Region and All-Pac-12. UCLA was second in the nation in kills per set (14.76) in 2012, third in assists per set (13.84) and fi fth in hitting percentage (.295), which was also the second-best, single-season total in program history. The Bruins led all Pac-12 teams in hitting and were second in kps and aps. In 2011, Sealy led the Bruins to the program s fourth NCAA title and seventh National Championship. The Bruins posted a 30-6 record and defeated four-time defending champion Penn State, #1-overall seed Texas, Florida State and Illinois en route to the championship. Sealy was named the AVCA National Coach of the Year. The Bruins fi nished second in the Pac-12 with a 17-5 record. Six players were honored on the All-Conference teams, while Kidder, the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Tournament, was a First Team All-American and All-Region selection. Zoë Nightingale and Lauren Van Orden were also named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team. UCLA fi nished fi fth in the nation in assists per set (13.71) and eighth in kills per set (14.52). Among Pac-12 teams, the Bruins ranked fi rst in aps, second in kps and opponent hitting percentage (.160) and third in digs per set (15.95). In his fi rst campaign, Sealy guided the Bruins to a 22-9 record, a fourth-place fi nish in the Pacifi c-10 Conference (11-7) and a Second Round appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Three Bruins were named to the All-Pac-10 Team in 2010, with Dicey McGraw earning First Team, as well as All-Pacifi c Region Honorable Mention accolades. UCLA fi nished in the top half of the Pac-10 in digs (2nd, 15.41), assists (4th, 13.46), kills (4th, 14.26) and aces (5th, 1.20) per set along with opponent hitting percentage (4th,.187). Sealy spent part of the summer of 2012 in London at the Olympic Games, serving as a scout coach for the U.S. men s volleyball team. UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero announced on Feb. 10, 2010 the hiring of Sealy as head coach of the Bruin women s volleyball program. Sealy returned to his alma mater after spending four seasons ( ) as an associate head coach at the University of Hawai i. He was a three-time All-American and an assistant coach for four years with the UCLA men s volleyball team and was an assistant with the Bruin women s volleyball program in Sealy helped Hawai i to a berth in the National Semifi nals in The Rainbow Wahine recorded their secondstraight, 30-win season last year, going 32-3 overall. They also posted a 16-0 mark in conference play to earn their 14th-straight Western Athletic Conference title and went on to claim their 10th-consecutive WAC Tournament championship. Sealy s record during his tenure at Hawai i was (.862 winning percentage). Prior to his stint at Hawai i, Sealy coached for four seasons at UCLA, where he was an assistant on the men s side from and an assistant for the women s volleyball team in In his lone season on the women s side, the Bruins posted a record and advanced to the Regional Semifi nals. With the UCLA men, Sealy was (.705) during his four campaigns, helping the Bruins to an NCAA Championship in 2006 and an NCAA Runner-Up fi nish in Sealy was also a volunteer assistant with the CSUN men s volleyball team in 2000 before working in the same capacity with the UCLA men in One of the top setters in UCLA history, Sealy was a four-year letterwinner with the Bruins from and ranks fourth in Bruin annals in assists (4,749). In his senior season, Sealy and the Bruins won the program s 14th National Championship, going The team captain was named the co-most Outstanding Player of the 1993 NCAA Tournament and also earned ASICS/Volleyball Monthly Player of the Year and AVCA All-American fi rst-team honors. In addition, Sealy was named an All-American in 1991 (fi rst-team) and 1992 (third-team), as well as All- Conference three times. The Bruins won three conference titles during Sealy s playing days, going (.769) during his four years. Following his playing career in Westwood, Sealy went on to play professionally in Switzerland, Belgium, Holland and Puerto Rico. He also played with the U.S. National Team in 1994 and Sealy graduated from UCLA in 1993 with a degree in physiological science.
