Both matches start at 7 p.m. and Gametracker will be available at UCLABruins.com. Free video will also be available for the Washington match only. WHAT S NEXT The Bruins host the Bay Area schools next weekend in their Pac- 10 home opener, entertaining a pair of undefeated teams in eighth-ranked California on Friday and #1 Stanford on Saturday at Pauley Pavilion. Both matches start at 7 p.m. and Gametracker and free audio and video will be available at UCLABruins.com. NEXT WEEKEND S PROMOTIONS Next Friday s Pac-10 home opener against California will be the GolDEN Game for UCLA students. In-game promotions for members of the Bruin Den will include Den-themed games at halftime and free food. Fans will also have the ability to receive four free tickets to the Bruins matchup with the Golden Bears by becoming a fan of the UCLA Athletics Facebook page (facebook. com/uclaathletics) or a follower of the UCLA Athletics Twitter page (twitter.com/uclaathletics). Saturday s match against Stanford will be Breast Cancer Awareness Night. The Bruins will wear pink jerseys and fans will have the opportunity to bid on game-worn jerseys through a silent auction. Giveaways for the match include pink UCLA t-shirts, pink ribbon temporary tattoos and a raffl e for a pink jersey and a signed team poster. It is also High School Night, so plan to show up early for both matches. Pauley Pavilion gates open at 6 p.m. BRUINS IN THE POLLS UCLA dropped one position to 12th in the latest AVCA Top 25 Coaches poll. The Bruins lost 40 points, the fi rst time this season they have not gained positive points. UCLA remained at 11th for the second straight week in the latest Volleyball Magazine Top 20 poll and gained 10 more points. UCLA was selected seventh in the Pac-10 preseason coaches poll, earning 38 points. BRUINS ON THE NET All remaining home contests will be broadcast live on UCLABruins. com. NEWS AND NOTES The Bruins lost the third set for the fi rst time this season against USC last Friday... Juniors Katie Camp and Lainey Gera lead all Pac-10 players in blocks and digs per set, respectively. Camp is at 1.35 bps, while Gera, who became the 20th player in UCLA history to post 1,000-career digs against the Trojans, has 4.67 dps. Camp is also eighth in hitting percentage at.383, junior Lauren Van Orden is seventh with assists per set and senior Dicey McGraw is ninth at 3.84 kills per set... the Bruins are 7-0 in sweeps, but just 3-2 when a match goes past the third set... UCLA is a perfect 9-0 when winning the opening set... the Bruins are 10-0 when leading in kills and hitting percentage... UCLA has not lost (10-0) when holding its opponent under a.230 hitting percentage. SCOUTING THE WASHINGTON STATE COUGARS The Cougars dropped their fi rst two matches of Pac-10 play last weekend against the Oregon schools, falling in three at Oregon and in four at Oregon State. Washington State is hitting.232 as a team and averaging kills, 1.35 aces, digs and 1.93 blocks per set. Junior outside hitter Meagan Ganzer has 44 percent of the Cougars kills, leading the team with 5.60 kps and 10 aces. Senior middle blocker Brittany Tillman is the only other player averaging more than 2.00 kps at Tillman is second in bps at 0.81, trailing freshman Marcelina Glab s 0.90 bps. Sophomore Oceana Bush leads the team with 4.16 dps, while freshman Sara Biondi quarterbacks the offense and is averaging assists per set. Andrew Palileo is in his third year as the Cougars head coach and holds a record of THE SERIES: BRUINS VS. COUGARS The Bruins have won 14 straight against the Cougars and lead the all-time series During their 14-match winning streak, the Bruins have won 42 of 47 sets with 10 sweeps. Last season, UCLA swept Washington State in Pullman on Oct. 17, 25-12, 26-24, Bojana Todorovic was just shy of a double-double with eight kills and 11 digs. In the home match at Pauley Pavilion on Nov. 13, the Bruins won in four, 25-23, 25-14, 23-25, Dicey McGraw had a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs, Lainey Gera posted 26 digs and Todorovic recorded 15 digs. The Bruins are 19-5 all-time in Pullman and have won seven straight there. Washington State s last victory in the series was a fi ve-set triumph on Oct. 25, 2002 in Pullman. SCOUTING THE WASHINGTON HUSKIES The Huskies split during their opening weekend of Pac-10 play, sweeping Oregon State but falling in four at Oregon. UW had won 36 straight sets to open the season before dropping the fi rst and then eventually the match in Eugene. Washington is hitting.342 as a team and averaging kills, 1.90 aces, digs and 2.51 blocks per set. Four Huskies are averaging more than 2.00 kps, led by senior outside Kindra Carlson s 4.28 kps. Senior outside hitter Becky Perry is second with 3.65 kps, junior middle blocker Bianca Rowland is third at 2.83 kps and sophomore outside Kylin Munoz is fourth with 2.21 kps. Rowland leads the squad with 1.17 bps, while sophomore middle Kelcey Dunaway is second at 1.14 bps. Defensively, freshman libero Jenna Orlandini tops the team with 4.47 dps, while senior Jenna Hagglund runs the offense and is averaging assists per set. Jim McLaughlin is in his 10th year as the Huskies head coach and holds a record of THE SERIES: BRUINS VS. HUSKIES The Huskies have won seven in a row against the Bruins, but UCLA still leads the all-time series Last season, the Bruins lost in four in Seattle, 19-25, 24-26, 26-24, Mari Hole posted 12 kills and eight digs in that match, Bojana Todorovic had a doubledouble with 10 kills and 11 digs and Lainey Gera added 28 digs in the defeat. UCLA is all-time in Seattle, but has dropped seven straight road contests, with its last victory coming in a fi ve-set triumph on Oct. 3, The Bruins last win overall in the series was a fi ve-set victory in Westwood on Sept. 28, TH-RANKED BRUINS BATTLE BUT LOSE TO #6 USC IN FOUR Senior Dicey McGraw, junior Katie Camp and sophomore Rachael Kidder each had double fi gures in kills, while junior Lainey Gera, sophomore Bojana Todorovic and freshman Kelly Reeves totaled at least 10 digs apiece, but the 11th-ranked Bruins saw their eight-match winning streak snapped in a four-set loss to #6 USC on Friday at the Galen Center. Set scores were 19-25, 25-19, 16-25, The Bruins fall to 10-2 and 0-1 following their Pac-10 opener, while the Trojans remain undefeated at 12-0 and 1-0. McGraw had 16 kills to go along with nine digs, Kidder notched a career-best 14 kills and Camp tied a season high with 11 kills. Gera surpassed the 1,000-career digs mark with 22, Todorovic had a season-best 15 digs, while Reeves added 12. The Bruins hit.155 for the match. The Trojans came out on fi re with the fi rst four points of the match and never looked back, holding at least a three-point advantage for the rest of the set. The Bruins had two separate runs of 3-0 and 4-0 late in the set, but were unable to make up the defi cit. Trailing 23-15, UCLA recorded four in a row on two USC errors, a combo block by McGraw and freshman Mariana Aquino and a kill by McGraw, but the Trojans scored the last two points of the opener to win it McGraw had four kills in the fi rst, while Kidder added three, as the Bruins were out-hit.297 to.097. USC netted four of the fi rst six points of the second set, but UCLA came back with seven of the next nine to take a 9-6 advantage and force the Trojans into a timeout. McGraw had three kills during the 7-2 run, Kidder had one and Camp added a solo block. USC got to within one twice, but the Bruins raised their lead back up to fi ve thanks to a 5-1 spurt. Leading 11-10, USC committed an attack error, Camp posted a solo roof and another Trojan error made it After a USC sideout, a Camp kill and a Kidder solo block put the Bruins up by fi ve at 16-11, prompting another Trojan timeout. Following their second timeout, the Trojans scored six of the next seven points to even the score at 17. However, UCLA responded with three in a row on a kill by McGraw, a stuff block from Aquino and a USC error to go ahead The Bruins never trailed for the rest of the set. Up 21-19, the Bruins recorded the fi nal four points of the set to win it An Aquino/Reeves combo block and three straight kills by Kidder gave the Bruins a six-point victory. Kidder had six kills to pace UCLA in the second, while McGraw added fi ve, as the Bruins out-hit the Trojans.303 to.103. UCLA also had a great defensive set, with 15 digs and fi ve blocks. UCLA took an early 6-4 lead on two kills from Camp, one by both Aquino and McGraw and two USC attack errors, but the Trojans came back with runs of 6-0 and 9-2 to take a 13-8 advantage. The Bruins could get no closer than four the rest of the way. UCLA scored on its serve only three times during the set, trailing by as many as nine and dropping the third McGraw led UCLA with four kills in the third, while Camp added three. The Trojans out-hit the Bruins.333 to.081. The Bruins scored fi ve of the fi rst six points of the fourth set to take an early lead. Camp posted two kills, while Kidder and McGraw had one apiece during the 5-1 run. All requests should be submitted at least 24 hours in advance. Credentials can be picked up at lower gate two of Pauley Pavilion. Photography: TV and photo credentials entitle video and still photographers to shoot from designated spots on the fl oor. Media members are not allowed to sit between the 10-foot lines on the sport court, but may be seated opposite the benches in the break between the tables if they are on the brown tarp off of the sport court. Flash photography is prohibited. Interviews: All interviews must be arranged through the UCLA Sports Information Offi ce and Assistant Sports Information Director James Ybiernas. Student-athletes have been instructed not to grant any interviews, in person or by telephone, not arranged by the Sports Information Offi ce. Telephone numbers are private and will not be released. 8 UCLA WOMEN S VOLLEYBALL WEEKLY RELEASE SEPT. 28, PAGE 8 UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero announced on Feb. 10, that Mike Sealy has been named head coach of the Bruin women s volleyball program. Sealy returns to his alma mater after spending the last four seasons as an associate head coach at the University of Hawai i. He was a three-time All-American and an assistant coach for four years with the UCLA men s volleyball team and was an assistant with the Bruin women s volleyball program in We are excited to welcome back Mike Sealy to lead the women s volleyball program, Guerrero said. Mike clearly possesses the necessary credentials to allow UCLA MIKE SEALY to compete at the highest level. He is well-respected in HEAD COACH the volleyball community and has an enthusiastic and FIRST YEAR passionate approach towards the game. Furthermore, UCLA, 1993 as a former Bruin player and coach, he understands the tradition of excellence that has defi ned the volleyball programs at UCLA and I am confi dent that he will continue that legacy of success with ambition and integrity. I am very excited and inspired to be back at UCLA, said Sealy, who will assume his head coaching duties on March 1. I feel very fortunate and humbled to take over a program with such a storied history. I would like to thank Dan Guerrero and (Senior Associate Athletic Director/SWA) Petrina Long for giving me this opportunity and for supporting my vision for the future of the program. Sealy helped Hawai i to a berth in the National Semifi nals in. The Rainbow Wahine recorded their second-straight, 30-win season last year, going 32-3 overall. They also posted a 16-0 mark in conference play to earn their 14th-straight Western Athletic Conference title and went on to claim their 10th-consecutive WAC Tournament championship. Sealy s record during his tenure at Hawai i was (.862 winning percentage). Prior to his stint at Hawai i, Sealy coached for four seasons at UCLA, where he was an assistant on the men s side from and an assistant for the women s volleyball team in In his lone season on the women s side, the Bruins posted a record and advanced to the Regional Semifi nals. With the UCLA men, Sealy was (.705) during his four campaigns, helping the Bruins to an NCAA Championship in 2006 and an NCAA Runner-Up fi nish in Sealy was also a volunteer assistant with the Cal State Northridge men s volleyball team in 2000 before working in the same capacity with the UCLA men in One of the top setters in UCLA history, Sealy was a four-year letterwinner with the Bruins from and ranks fourth in Bruin annals in assists (4,749). In his senior season, Sealy and the Bruins won the program s 14th National Championship, going The team captain was named the co-most Outstanding Player of the 1993 NCAA Tournament and also earned ASICS/Volleyball Monthly Player of the Year and AVCA All-American fi rst-team honors. In addition, Sealy was named an All-American in 1991 (fi rst-team) and 1992 (third-team), as well as All-Conference three times. The Bruins won three conference titles during Sealy s playing days, going (.769) during his four years. Following his playing career in Westwood, Sealy went on to play professionally in Switzerland, Belgium, Holland and Puerto Rico. He also played with the U.S. National Team in 1994 and Sealy graduated from UCLA in 1993 with a degree in physiological science.
