MATCH INFORMATION Match 26: Thursday, November 16-8 p.m. #18 UCLA at #4 Stanford (Maples Pavilion) TV: Pac-12 Networks Los Angeles BRUINS HEAD TO BAY AREA FOR TWO MATCHES The 18th-ranked Bruins travel north for a pair of matches this week, facing #4 Stanford on Thursday at 8 p.m. and California on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Both contests will air live on Pac-12 Networks Los Angeles. WHAT S NEXT? The regular season concludes next week with a pair of road matches at Oregon State on Wednesday, Nov. 22 (1 p.m.) and USC on Saturday, Nov. 25 (7 p.m.). The UCLA-OSU contest will be live streamed on UCLABruins.com, while the UCLA-USC matchup will air on Pac-12 Networks. On Sunday, Nov. 26 at 6 p.m., ESPNU will air the NCAA Selection Show. BRUINS IN THE POLLS The Bruins stayed at #18 for the third week in a row in the AVCA poll. Seven teams ranked in the current Top 25 are on UCLA s schedule (#4 Stanford, #5 Nebraska, #10 Washington, #11 San Diego, #14 USC, #17 Utah and #20 Oregon), with Colorado and Oregon State also receiving votes. In the Pac- 12 Conference Preseason Poll, the Bruins are fi fth, receiving 83 points. GATES PAC-12 DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK Sophomore Madeleine Gates was named Pac-12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 6, recording 13 blocks to go with 24 kills in two Bruin victories over the Arizona schools. It is the fi rst weekly league honor in Gates career. Gates posted eight blocks against Arizona (Nov. 3) and fi ve versus Arizona State (Nov. 4). Three of her 13 blocks were of the solo variety. Offensively, Gates had 13 kills against the Wildcats, producing a.478 hitting percentage, while adding 11 versus the Sun Devils with a.476 clip. Gates is the third Bruin to win Pac-12 weekly honors this season. UCLA has won four overall awards, with Mac May being named Freshman of the Week on Aug. 28 and Sept. 25 and junior Zana Muno picking up Defensive POW honors on Aug. 28. The Bruins have won 10 Pac-12 DPOW plaudits since the award was implemented in NEWS AND NOTES UCLA hit a season-best.366 against Arizona State on Nov. 4. The Bruins also tied a season high with eight aces versus Arizona on Nov. 3, the second time this year UCLA had that many against the Wildcats... senior Reily Buechler s 83 attempts in the Oct. 21 win at Colorado were the most swings for a Bruin since Oct. 12, 2012 when Rachael Kidder had 83 at Stanford... Buechler had a season-best 23 kills, while freshman Jenny Mosser added a career-high 28. It was the fi rst contest in which a pair of Bruins had at least 20 kills since Oct. 10, 2014 against Utah. Buechler was also a part of that match when she had 20 to go with Karsta Lowe s as a team, UCLA is 41st in the nation in digs per set at Senior Sarah Sponcil comes into this week s play ranked 31st in assists per set (10.97), junior Zana Muno is 39th in digs per set (4.98) and sophomore Madeleine Gates is 45th in blocks per set (1.26)... Muno, in dps, and Sponcil, in aps, are each second among Pac-12 players, Gates is fi fth in hitting percentage (.351) and sixth in bps, freshman Mac May is seventh in service aces per set (0.33) and senior Reily Buechler is ninth in kills per set (3.35) and points per set (3.87). UCLA is 12-1 when winning the fi rst set after intermission and 7-1 when winning the fourth set... the Bruins are 10-2 when out-digging their opponent... Rogers hit a career-best.600 in an Oct. 27 match at Washington State, with nine kills and no errors in 15 attempts. She has eight contests with a.400 hitting percentage or better after hitting.429 against ASU. Rogers, who has at least one ace in four of her last fi ve, also has nine block solos in her last handful of contests... Buechler, owner of 10 double-doubles, has a team-best 19 double-fi gure kills matches, surpassing 20 for the third time this season against Utah last Friday (had 23 at CU, 21 vs. WSU on Oct. 1). Buechler, who has 1,457 career kills, is 12th in UCLA history. Next up on the list are Kaitlin Sather (11th, 1,501) and Kim Krull (10th, 1,575)... Buechler, who served a career-high four aces at Arizona on Oct. 4, has an ace in nine of her last Mosser went for double fi gures in kills in both matches last week with 14 against Colorado and 16 versus Utah. The freshman, who set a new career high with 28 kills at Colorado in October, has 13 double-fi gure kills contests. She also has at least six digs in 10 of her last 11 matches... Muno has double fi gures in digs in 13 in a row, registering at least 20 in nine of her last 11 matches. She is averaging 5.71 dps over her last 11 matches. Muno recorded 28 in the Oct. 21 victory at Colorado, which is six shy of her career high of 34 at Hawai i (Aug. 27)... Simo has double fi gures in digs in eight of her last 11, averaging 2.93 dps during that span. She had 18 digs at Utah on Oct. 20, which was two shy of her career high of 20 against USC (Sept. 20). Simo also had a stretch of four matches in a row with an ace (Oct )... Sponcil leads the team with 14 double-doubles, including six of her last seven matches. She had career highs in assists (63), digs (25) and blocks (6) in the win at Colorado and has at least 40 assists and 15 digs in four of her last seven contests. Offensively, Sponcil has nine aces across her last six matches, recording a career-best four against Arizona. She also has at least one kill in 15 matches in a row... May, the team leader in aces, has one in eight in a row, totaling 13 during that span. Factoring in her last 11 contests, she has at least a pair of aces in six of those matches. May has 10 double-fi gure kills contests, including 16 with a.636 hitting percentage in the most recent match against Arizona... in her last fi ve contests, Gates has 58 kills and just six hitting errors in 105 attempts for a.495 percentage. She has double fi gures in kills in seven in a row and at least seven kills in 18 straight. Defensively, Gates has a team-best 14 matches with at least fi ve blocks, including 25 in her last four contests. SCOUTING THE STANFORD CARDINAL For the fi rst time in Pac-12 play and just the third time this season, Stanford (22-3, 15-1) lost a match, falling in four at Washington last Wednesday. The Cardinal rebounded though with a four-set win at Washington State on Saturday. Stanford, which hosts USC on Wednesday, is averaging kills, 1.60 aces, digs and 2.92 blocks per set, hitting.311 as a team. Sophomore Kathryn Plummer is tops on the squad with 4.70 kps, redshirt senior Merete Lutz is second at 2.89 and sophomore Audriana Fitzmorris is third at Sophomore Jenna Gray handles the setting duties and is averaging SEVEN-TIME NATIONAL CHAMPIONS ( 72, 74, 75, 84, 90, 91, 11) FOUR-TIME NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONS ( 84, 90, 91, 11)

CARDINAL Stanford improved to all-time against UCLA with a four-set triumph at Pauley Pavilion on Oct. 13. Seniors Reily Buechler (10 kills, 13 digs) and Sarah Sponcil (32 assists, 12 digs) each had double-doubles, while sophomore Savvy Simo added 17 digs. The Bruins swept the season series against the Cardinal in 2016, including a fi ve-set triumph last Nov. 12. Stanford holds a edge in matches in Palo Alto. SCOUTING THE CALIFORNIA GOLDEN BEARS California (13-14, 4-12 Pac-12), which hosts USC on Friday, has dropped four in a row, all in three sets. The Golden Bears are averaging kills, 1.19 aces, digs and 1.62 blocks per set, hitting.229 as a team. Senior Antzela Dempi (2.99), freshman Mima Mirkovic (2.57) and junior Carmen Annevelink (2.51) are each averaging over two kills per set. Junior Mackenzie Albrecht (5.83 assists per set) and freshman Isabel Potter (5.80) are splitting the setting duties. Sophomore Emma Smith is fi rst on the squad with 3.35 dps, while senior Caihla Petiprin is tops with 0.76 bps. THE SERIES: BRUINS VS. GOLDEN BEARS UCLA leads the all-time series with California 62-8 and has won six in a row after a sweep of the Golden Bears at Pauley Pavilion on Oct. 14. Four Bruins had at least eight kills, including a team-best 12 by freshman Mac May, while sophomore Savvy Simo added 11 digs. The Bruins are 27-4 in Berkeley, winning three in a row at Haas Pavilion. #18 BRUINS DROP FOUR-SETTER TO #15 UTAH On Senior Night, senior Reily Buechler led the Bruins with 22 kills to go with eight digs, while senior Sarah Sponcil had a double-double with 51 assists and 15 digs, adding four blocks, but the 18th-ranked Bruins dropped a four-set decision to #15 Utah on Friday at the John Wooden Center in a match featuring 43 ties and 18 lead changes. Set scores were 22-25, 26-24, 28-30, Junior Zana Muno produced 26 digs, freshman Jenny Mosser had 16 kills and six digs and sophomore Madeleine Gates posted 13 kills and just one hitting error in 24 attempts for a.500 hitting percentage to go with fi ve blocks. Sophomore Savvy Simo had 14 digs, freshman Anne Crouch added fi ve digs and junior Kyra Rogers recorded fi ve blocks, including four solo stuffs. The Bruins hit.185 for the match. UCLA (16-9, 9-7 Pac-12) scored the fi rst four points of the match on kills by Buechler and Gates and two Utah (19-8, 10-6 Pac-12) errors, extending its lead to 5-1 after another Buechler kill. Four would be the Bruins largest lead of the set. After the lead changed hands a few times, the Bruins, trailing 13-12, scored four straight on back-to-back Buechler kills, one by Mosser and a Utah attack error. UCLA led by a pair as late as before Utah went on a 7-2 run to close out the opening set and win it Mosser was error-free with six kills in 10 attempts, Buechler also had six kills and Gates was error-free with three in seven swings. Muno added six digs. The Bruins and the Utes each hit.263. Neither team led by more than three in a second set featuring 13 ties and fi ve lead changes. Down by three at 21-18, the Bruins scored three in a row on two Utah errors and a solo block by Rogers. UCLA was still down by one at 23-22, but another Rogers solo stuff and a combo block by Rogers and freshman Mac May gave the Bruins a set point. Utah saved the fi rst try, but consecutive Buechler kills closed out a victory. Buechler had six kills with no miscues in 14 attempts, while Gates and Mosser each posted three kills. Simo added fi ve digs. The Bruins out-hit the Utes.196 to.176. Set three went into overtime with 14 ties and six lead changes. Utah raced out to a 5-1 lead, but saw UCLA go on an 8-2 run to take a four-point edge of its own. Down 8-5, fi ve Ute errors, solo blocks by Sponcil and Rogers and a Mosser kill put the Bruins up With UCLA up 22-21, three in a row for Utah gave the visitors a pair of set points, but a Buechler kill and a May/Gates block evened things at 24. Another Buechler kill saved set point number three to tie it at 25 and kills by

However, Utah got the next pair and won the pivotal third Buechler and Mosser each had six kills in the third, Gates was 3-for-3 in attempts, Muno added nine digs and Sponcil posted fi ve digs, as the Bruins out-hit the Utes.191 to.023. The Bruins lost the fi rst four points of set four, but down 10-8, scored four in a row on a Buechler kill and solo block, a Utah error and a Gates kill to go up The Bruins led by a pair as late as 14-12, but four in a row for the Utes gave the visitors the lead for good. The score would be tied again at 16 and 17, but Utah closed the match on an 8-2 run to take the fourth Gates was 4-for-7 with no errors in the fourth, Buechler added four kills and Muno had seven digs, as the Bruins were out-hit.200 to.095. #18 BRUINS SWEEP #25 COLORADO Senior Sarah Sponcil added to her team-best double-double total with 35 assists and 16 digs and freshman Jenny Mosser recorded 14 kills and nine digs, as the 18th-ranked Bruins won their third match in a row with a sweep of #25 Colorado on Thursday at Pauley Pavilion. Set scores were 25-23, 25-18, Sophomore Madeleine Gates notched 10 kills and just one error in 17 attempts for a.529 hitting percentage to go with seven blocks, including three solo stuffs. Senior Reily Buechler added eight kills and 13 digs, junior Zana Muno had 18 digs, freshman Mac May posted eight kills and sophomore Savvy Simo had fi ve digs. Colorado (19-7, 9-6 Pac-12) led for most of the opening set until UCLA (16-8, 9-6 Pac-12) came back late to steal the opener. The Buffaloes held set-best advantages of four at 6-2 and 7-3 before the Bruins came back with a 6-2 run to even the score at nine. Gates, Mosser, Buechler and junior Kyra Rogers had kills, Rogers teamed up with Mosser on a block and Colorado committed an error. The Buffs still led by three as late as when two Mosser kills and a Muno ace evened the score at 22. After a CU sideout, back-toback Mosser kills gave the Bruins a set point and a Mosser/ Rogers block fi nished off a win. Mosser was error-free with seven kills in 16 swings, adding fi ve digs in the fi rst set. Buechler had three kills and six digs, as the Bruins out-hit the Buffaloes.209 to.146. After ending the fi rst set on a 6-1 run, UCLA started set two on a 9-1 run thanks to three Buechler kills, two May kills, a Gates solo block and combo with May and two Colorado attack errors. Eight would be the Bruins largest lead of the second on several occasions. The Buffaloes closed to within three at 20-17, but the Bruins netted fi ve of the last six on two Mosser kills, a Sponcil ace, a May kill and a Buechler solo block on set point to win it Gates was 4-for-6 and error-free in the second, while Buechler and May added four kills each. Muno and Sponcil notched seven digs apiece, as the Bruins out-hit the Buffaloes.263 to.103. Colorado s only leads of set three were 1-0 and 2-1. 10 UCLA WOMEN S VOLLEYBALL PAGE 10 MICHAEL SEALY HEAD COACH EIGHTH YEAR UCLA, 1993 RECORD: (.709) Michael Sealy begins his eighth season as the head coach of the UCLA women s volleyball team in. Sealy has an overall record of for a.709 winning percentage and guided the Bruins to a National Championship in Last season, the Bruins went 27-7 and tied for second in the Pac-12 Conference (15-5). UCLA, which won its fi rst seven matches for its best start to a season since 2006, won 10 times against ranked teams, including a season sweep of eventual national champion Stanford, the fi rst sweep of the Cardinal since 2011, as well as a sweep of cross-town rival USC. The Bruins reached a Regional Semifi nal for the third year in a row, while also making its fi rst Regional Final appearance since UCLA ranked sixth in the nation in digs and assists per set a year ago and 13th in kills per set, while also ranking fi rst in the conference in dps and aps and second in kps. The dps mark of was tied for the second-best total in school history. Four Bruins picked up VolleyballMag.com All-American honors, as Taylor Formico, the back-to-back Pac-12 Libero of the Year, was named to the First Team, Reily Buechler to the Third Team and Jordan Anderson and Jennie Frager to the Honorable Mention Team. Those four, plus Torrey Van Winden (First Team), were selected to the AVCA All-Region Team, while all fi ve were honored on the All-Pac-12 squads. In 2015, the Bruins posted a record of 25-8, placing fourth in the Pac-12 (14-6). Three Bruins were named AVCA All-Americans, tying for the most awards in a single season in school history. Formico earned Third Team honors, while Anderson and Claire Felix picked up Honorable Mention nods. All three players were also named AVCA Pacifi c South All-Region First Team, and a total of six Bruins were on the All-Pac-12 squads. Formico was the league Libero of the Year and All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention, Anderson was named First Team and Felix, Buechler, Frager and Zana Muno each notched Honorable Mention plaudits. In the summer of 2016, Sealy was the head coach of the Pac-12 All-Star volleyball team which traveled to China in June. In 2014, the Bruins fi nished and in a tie for fourth in the Pac-12 (11-9), reaching the NCAA Regional Semifi nals. Five Bruins were named to the All-Pac-12 Teams, as Karsta Lowe earned All-Pac-12, All-Region and AVCA All-America First Team accolades, while Buechler, Formico and Julie Consani were All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention. UCLA led the country in kills (15.10) and assists (14.26) per set in 2014, the fi rst time the Bruins led the nation in a stat category since 1997, while Lowe was tops in the country in kills and points per set. A trio of Bruins were named to the All-Pac-12 Teams in 2013, as Lowe earned First Team to go with her AVCA All-Region First Team and All-America Honorable Mention accolades. UCLA went 15-15, recording a 6-14 mark in Pac-12 play. In 2012, the Bruins posted a 23-8 record, fi nishing in a tie for fourth in the Pac-12 with a 14-6 mark and advancing to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. Two Bruins, Rachael Kidder and Tabi Love, were named All-American, All-Region and All-Pac-12. UCLA was second in the nation in kills per set (14.76) in 2012, third in assists per set (13.84) and fi fth in hitting percentage (.295), which was also the second-best, single-season total in program history. The Bruins led all Pac-12 teams in hitting and were second in kps and aps. In 2011, Sealy led the Bruins to the program s fourth NCAA title and seventh National Championship. The Bruins posted a 30-6 record and defeated four-time defending champion Penn State, #1-overall seed Texas, Florida State and Illinois en route to the championship. Sealy was named the AVCA National Coach of the Year. The Bruins fi nished second in the Pac-12 with a 17-5 record. Six players were honored on the All-Conference teams, while Kidder, the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Tournament, was a First Team All-American and All-Region selection. Zoë Nightingale and Lauren Van Orden were also named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team. UCLA fi nished fi fth in the nation in assists per set (13.71) and eighth in kills per set (14.52). Among Pac-12 teams, the Bruins ranked fi rst in aps, second in kps and opponent hitting percentage (.160) and third in digs per set (15.95). In his fi rst campaign, Sealy guided the Bruins to a 22-9 record, a fourth-place fi nish in the Pacifi c-10 Conference (11-7) and a Second Round appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Three Bruins were named to the All-Pac-10 Team in 2010, with Dicey McGraw earning First Team, as well as All-Pacifi c Region Honorable Mention accolades. UCLA fi nished in the top half of the Pac-10 in digs (2nd, 15.41), assists (4th, 13.46), kills (4th, 14.26) and aces (5th, 1.20) per set along with opponent hitting percentage (4th,.187). Sealy spent part of the summer of 2012 in London at the Olympic Games, serving as a scout coach for the U.S. men s volleyball team. UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero announced on Feb. 10, 2010 the hiring of Sealy as head coach of the Bruin women s volleyball program. Sealy returned to his alma mater after spending four seasons ( ) as an associate head coach at the University of Hawai i. He was a three-time All-American and an assistant coach for four years with the UCLA men s volleyball team and was an assistant with the Bruin women s volleyball program in Sealy helped Hawai i to a berth in the National Semifi nals in The Rainbow Wahine recorded their secondstraight, 30-win season last year, going 32-3 overall. They also posted a 16-0 mark in conference play to earn their 14th-straight Western Athletic Conference title and went on to claim their 10th-consecutive WAC Tournament championship. Sealy s record during his tenure at Hawai i was (.862 winning percentage). Prior to his stint at Hawai i, Sealy coached for four seasons at UCLA, where he was an assistant on the men s side from and an assistant for the women s volleyball team in In his lone season on the women s side, the Bruins posted a record and advanced to the Regional Semifi nals. With the UCLA men, Sealy was (.705) during his four campaigns, helping the Bruins to an NCAA Championship in 2006 and an NCAA Runner-Up fi nish in Sealy was also a volunteer assistant with the CSUN men s volleyball team in 2000 before working in the same capacity with the UCLA men in One of the top setters in UCLA history, Sealy was a four-year letterwinner with the Bruins from and ranks fourth in Bruin annals in assists (4,749). In his senior season, Sealy and the Bruins won the program s 14th National Championship, going The team captain was named the co-most Outstanding Player of the 1993 NCAA Tournament and also earned ASICS/Volleyball Monthly Player of the Year and AVCA All-American fi rst-team honors. In addition, Sealy was named an All-American in 1991 (fi rst-team) and 1992 (third-team), as well as All- Conference three times. The Bruins won three conference titles during Sealy s playing days, going (.769) during his four years. Following his playing career in Westwood, Sealy went on to play professionally in Switzerland, Belgium, Holland and Puerto Rico. He also played with the U.S. National Team in 1994 and Sealy graduated from UCLA in 1993 with a degree in physiological science.
