Our Fourth of July festivities were a big hit again! Our picnic brought together friends and family for a fun-filled afternoon of good food and great music. Unfortunately, we did not make it to the parade this year. Hopefully we can get back to the swing of things next year. We hope that August will bring the same fun July brought. Remember to sign up for all of the fun activities that the lovely ladies have planned for this month, like the picnic at Quail Hollow or the Haven of Rest! Also, don t forget that this is the month of the 2nd Annual Mulberry Gardens Vintage Car Show. Come out and see all the beauties!

Our Trip Aboard the Portage Princess Not every princess wears a crown. Our princess is a huge pontoon boat that takes us for our annual tour of the Portage Lakes. This is one trip that sells out. We board the boat at noon and set off on a two-hour trip around Turkeyfoot Lake. During our tour, lunch is served. Our guide tells us of all of the latest home sales on the lakes! One was over a million dollars. You might think the same trip every year could be boring, but not so on the Portage Princess tour. There is always something new going on at the boat docks, the swim parks, and the little baby ducks swimming by. This year was no exception. 3 3 Dolly Maguire August Resident of the Month The resident spotlight shines brightly on our very own Martha Dolly Maguire. A quiet, lovely lady, Dolly was born on August 16, 1921, in Akron, Oh. She was born to Frederick and Susan Ammann. One of 17 children. She married her husband, Paul Maguire. They have 4 sons. Bob, Jim, John, and Scott. Dolly has been in almost every state in the union. She has traveled extensively to Canada, Spain, Israel, Costa Rica, Italy, and Switzerland. Dolly has 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She enjoys crafts and cards. Say Hello, Dolly when you see her around. Are You Going??? 6 6 Haven Update! Boy, oh boy! Did we ever have a great time at the Haven of Rest in July. The ladies really celebrated their independence by buying up a red, white and blue storm. The luncheon, as usual, was scrumptious. A lovely, light summer fare. We generously donated goodies to the sale and clothing to the closet. Our monthly trip to the Haven is really the highlight of our month. It does your heart and soul good to donate to the less fortunate and your tummy good to receive a free lunch in return. Our ladies really enjoy the first Tuesday of each month, and the Mulberry bus is always full for the trip. Mulberry Gardens Fourth of July Celebration The 2009 Fourth of July celebration actually started a couple of days early. We decorated Mulberry Gardens in red, white and blue everything, including a 5' x 9' American flag and five buntings on the front porch and stars all over the place. The chef prepared the food a day early. Extra help was brought in to help set up, and finally the BIG event arrived. We celebrated on July 2 at 12:30 p.m. with an incredible picnic-style lunch. Hot dogs, hamburgers, baked beans, potato salad and all of the trimmings is what we had. Gallons of soda and pounds of melon were served to the residents and their guests. Everyone enjoyed the food and our special entertainer. It truly is wonderful to live in a free country and enjoy all the blessings of liberty. Thanks to our forefathers, our soldiers who are fighting now, and to the veterans who made it all possible! Most of all, Thank God for the U.S.A. Mike Navratil and his new great-grandbaby. I think that s the tomatoes. But whatever they are, they are huge! Our patio garden is doing just wonderful. The beef-steak and Better Boy tomatoes are 3 feet tall and loaded with fruit. The peppers are producing well also. The herbs are fragrant and flavorful. Someone is always out taking a look at the gardens and checking for the latest yield.
