3 Presidents Report April 2014 Hip Hop its Easter time already, a great to share with friends and family!!! The month of April has been a busy one that s for sure, especially for the committee. It gives me great pleasure to announce that we are adding another level of motoring to the Ballarat Light Car Club, which is Four Wheel Drives, there has been an ever increasing growth in this area and people are looking for a club to call home so why not ours? This is a great opportunity for the club to run driver training with Garry Doyle, and a great opportunity for members to be accredited in training corporate and public 4 wheel driving, with this we will be making some improvements at the motorsport complex over the next few months to accommodate. Other opportunities is that we will also increase in numbers as well as having an association with 4WD Victoria the only 4wd association that others coverage for 4wd activities. These activities include driver training, day trips, weekend trips etc. The club will run as it always has same name etc., the only difference is that there will 4wd s and a greater range of activities at the club, a bigger data base of member with different experiences and expertise. A win win both ways for all involved. Other big things this month was the running of our two rounds of the Victorian Hillclimb Championship, and for a change I was on the other side of the fence and competing. The event was well run and talking to other drivers in the pits/dummy grid (plenty of time since some FORD decided to spill its engine oil on the track at the cutting. Yeah that s right a FORD!!!) They also endorsed the event, everyone enjoys the mix of the short and long track. Well done to Les Grandpa Noonan and his crew of officials a great event. Some may have seen on facebook that Sean Payne has been looking out for junior development cars, the first one has been purchased a Datsun Stanza, it is currently with Paul Gladman having a make over. There has been a number of members that have donated towards the car with parts, time, transport etc. So a big thank you to Sean Payne for driving to Mildura to pick the car up, Paul The Donk Hocking for suppling the car trailer and running the Stanza around, Paul Gladman for prep and painting, Steve Fisher for suppling Datto parts and I am sure that I have missed others. Looking forward to seeing the completed product. Coming up in May we have our round of the VCAS, with Ash Mabbitt stepping up to direct the event, so if your not competing Ash will be looking for officials on the day, please contact either Ash or myself if you can help out. Two weeks later the WDCC will be running the Cooper Sprint rally in the Wombat State forest, and the club has been asked to set up a stage, if your able to help out with a start/ finish control, road closure, please let me know. The following week we see George Fatty Davidsons Rallye Du Monte Col trial in the Mount Cole Avoca area, as a trade off I have agreed to be the officials officer and chase up 19 start/finish control and a few passage control officials. So either get an entry in or come help out please, events are always hard to get on this side of the Yarra or Domain tunnel. So please support these events as we all like to jump up and down and say theres never any rallies on this side of the state and here we have two back to back. This months meeting will be a nice warm one on ANZAC day, as we plan to set fire to the pile of pines at the bottom of the track, so bring your marshmallows, a deck chair and a drink and come join us and keep warm. Hope your enjoying these long weekend and remember GO THE PIES on ANZAC day. 5 Sports Sub Committee Notes April Bulletin Sorry about missing last months Bulletin but the 2 State-round Hillclimbs at Mt Leura consumed all my time and then some and sadly coincided with the week when our resident Mr Ed needs contributions. For those that didn t make it to Camperdown either as a helper or competitor it was a great 2 events. The competitors on Saturday got to have 5 runs up the hill which was well received. Sunday we were back to the normal 4. The weather was really kind on the weekend after it poured rain on us on Friday when we were trying to set up. We finally got to use our timing cable under the road tunnel after some 6 years after some kind souls decided to block it about 6 years ago. It makes the setup quite a bit easier and the event runs smoother without having to worry about course vehicles ambulances and recovery trucks getting caught up in a cable strung up in the air over the road. Thanks to Barney for persevering and making this happen and thanks to Bruce Bayley for his plumbing expertise. Word has it that Bruce has added a Swiss Army knife to his tool kit. One of the entries had a cheque for $990 with 3 competitors in 2 cars. Made me really have to think when working out the running order I can tell you. They had an absolute ball with just a few gremlins across the 2 cars but were still smiling at the end of the weekend. Seems we might have some new entertainment at a future Friday night meeting with a notable official busting out some dance moves on the starting grid whilst a video Sports Sub April Update camera recorded it for prosperity. Check it out on Utube! We have had a few remarks or queries as to why we put motorkhana events in our calendar so early in the year. Previously they were run in the winter months when its to wet to do anything else. The reason behind this was to give the juniors in the year bracket some events on a more regular basis. Telling them they have to wait 6 months until the motorkhana s come along wasn t ideal as they may give up and go do something else. Nigel Stevens is also organising a Junior Development program that will ideally need some events to feed newby juniors into to get em hooked straight away. Having heard rumbles that the sprint days in our CDC over the last few years were getting a bit pricey we went looking for some alternatives. This year we will try 2 events at Winton run by Benalla Auto Club at Winton under AASA. These events are quite a bit cheaper and according to those who have done them before are similar to the ones we have been using. To that end the 2 sprints for this years CDC are on 6 th September which is actually a Saturday and the 22 nd of November again on a Saturday. CAMS licences are OK even though its run under AASA. Entry fees should be around $115 which is good value. Another advantage is that our 16 & 17 year old Junior class can do them as well so the J3 class can be in the full CDC again. The 14 & 15 year old Junior class cant yet as they only take 15 year olds although we will ask the organisers if they can make a special allowance so we can have all the J2 s included as well. Watch this space. Last weekend we were supposed to have Round 3 of our Autocross Series. Sadly we didn t have enough entries to make this event viable both on a financial basis as well as having a workable roster for our infield duties. To this end I need to suggest that when we have crook weather leading up to an event like we had last week please still put your entry in. In the past we leave it till the absolute last minute to postpone and event on a weather basis or wet track. This weekend just gone the track was ready to go even after all the rain we had but we had no racers! Which was bit sad. We have this years VCAS round on 10 th May on the Saturday before Mothers day which will again need all hands on deck. It will be a day night event like the second VCAS event we ran last year, even though the regular VCAS were a bit sooky about driving in the dark. I couldn t believe it when they all wanted to do their runs early in the daylight rather than tackle the track in the dark. Its more fun in the dark as you don t see those pesky little orange things you just hear em go thump! 2 weeks after that we have a KX which should a lot of fun but needs a directing team. Please remember that for Motorkhana events it would be advisable to bring a packed lunch so that you can have lunch down near the tests which are a significant distance from the timing tower. That way we can eat whilst standing in line to do tests as well as chewing the fat as we already do. April 2014 TheBulletin 5

6 Editorial I think now that I will not seek to gauge the feelings of our members. Having campaigned to have opinions heard and was unsuccessful so I have taken this to mean that all members have enough faith in myself and the committee to lets us take care of business. The biggest order of recent business is that we were approached with was a request that we expand and take on new members with slightly different interests to our own. I say different but when you look at it they might drive bigger vehicles but there are many similarities so given this, we are now looking forward to welcoming as many as 45 new members to start with. There are of course some basic things to work out but they will simply be new members who happen to drive 4x4 vehicles. They can be just an associate member and pay their own association costs, or they can choose to be full members and compete. Like many of us some of them may wish to buy a competition vehicle, if they don t already own one, and I am sure that many of us already own an off road vehicle that we can use to join in on their activities. All in all I think the BLCC will become a much better and exciting club to be in. I am taking the initiative and beginning the process of improving the catering facilities out at the track. Initially we considered making the tower facilities better through renovation but felt that this would be a waste of money, especially given the threat of having to move Notice to Bulletin Advertisers in the future. To this end the better idea seemed to obtain a portable facility. Caravans or food vans are not a bad solution but the location would mean that they would be susceptible to break-ins or vandalism and storing one in the shed would be impractical. Therefore we intend to get hold of a twenty foot shipping container and convert it for our purposes. The benefits of this are that it will be portable and it will be much better with regards cleanliness and vermin proofing including keeping birds out. I also hope to be able to have a much improved menu. If you know someone who has stuff we can use like lining boards, windows, batons, and any catering gear such as fridges or even a bane marie please let us know. 7 RALLYE du MOUNT COL RALLYE DU MONT COL NEW DATE: 24 MAY 2014 (due to forestry operations (fuel reduction) activities on the original date. MOUNT COLE - between Avoca and Beaufort 140 km Competitive. ROUND 2 - HRA Rally Championship ROUND 2 - HRA Standard Car Class Championship In Trials, including the Victorian Trials Series events way back years ago, the emphasis was on logical navigation. This event re-creates that style; but with marked up maps for every stage. We are providing pre-plotted maps, with useful intermediate distances along the black line which is the intended route that complies with the pre-plotted and labelled VIAs. All of the maps will have relevant road names, as well as for lots of sign-posted roads off the rote in case crews get it wrong. You therefore won t need any plotting time. Transports are route-charted and sometimes there are tulips to help. Competitives are all map reading, using your trip meter, compass and the supplied maps or your own if you wish. Not every metre of the course is smooth - it is NOT a tarmac event. There are a couple of short pieces that are steep or rocky; but these have been converted to slow transport sections. They didn t upset my standard WRX during surveying (No sump guard). Supp Regs (and Entry Form) are on the HRA website now. 9 2014 Club Permit Information PROCESS FOR OBTAINING CLUB PERMITS FOR VEHICLES. The following is the current process for getting your vehicle onto the Club Permit system. First of all the vehicle must be a minimum of 25 years old (to the month) and in roadworthy condition. Current registration is not necessary. The owner MUST present a current Club membership card and MUST remain a member in order to continue to use the vehicle. When ready contact the Clubs designated officer to arrange processing. (Details below.) The vehicle is to be checked for suitability for use on Club Plates either with a roadworthy certificate or by myself as the designated officer. A nominal fee of $45 is charged for the check. Once the paperwork is completed you go to Vic Roads for processing. You have a choice of either 45 or 90 day permits, and it s a log book system which you are responsible for. After you receive your plates and paperwork from Vic Roads (usually up to 3 weeks,) it is YOUR responsibility to notify me with the expiry date and plate details. The Club is responsible for keeping accurate records. At present that s me. Therefore, if you sell the vehicle, smash it, remove it from the road, don t renew you membership, or change Clubs, you MUST notify me and in some cases hand back the plates to Vic Roads. RENEWING YOUR CLUB PERMIT. When your permit is nearing its expiry date you will automatically receive a renewal from Vic Roads which you then must get signed by me. At present the Club is asking a fee of $5 for all renewals to help cover the cost of being a member of A.O.M.C. payable on me signing off your permit. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE TO MAINTAIN YOUR VEHICLE IN A ROADWORTHY STATE. SOME VEHICLES THAT HAVEN T BEEN SEEN OUT AT THE CLUB FOR A WHILE MAY REQUIRE A CHECK TO BE CARRIED OUT PRIOR TO RENEWAL. Chris Hall. B.L.C.C. Club Permit officer or Leave details if need be. 24 Notice of Annual General Meeting The Annual General Meeting of The Ballarat Light Car Club will be held on the 25 th June at the Club Rooms at Ballarat Airport. President Arron Secombe will present his annual report and Treasurer Nigel Stevens present his financial report. The annual Clubman award will also be made during the evening. Any items of business to be dealt with at this meeting need to given to the Secretary by the 4 th July This year 2014 there will be 6 vacancies on our committee. The following people all finish their respective terms and will need to renominate to remain on the committee: David Haddon, Les Noonan, Steven Ezzy and Sean Payne. There are 2 other vacancies that are currently not filled. So now is your chance folks, if you think you can offer some fresh ideas please put your hand up. It would be nice to again have enough nominations to require an election or at least a full committee of 12 so we can spread the load a bit.
