1 Rincon Country East RV Resort 8989 E. Escalante, Tucson, AZ Business Office: March, 2012 Volume 33 Number 7 A Moment With Joy Rincon Country East RV Resort, this is Joy. Don t you just love that friendly, lilting voice? Now let me ask, how many of you know Joy s last name? To help you remember, run your fingers through your hair. Now think Combs--Joy Combs. As an incentive to remember, when you re out and about, I might just stop you and ask, What s Joy s last name? Five to one, you ll run your fingers through your hair before saying, Combs. Now you know who she is, but what does she do? Joy has been an RCE office assistant since August When you stand at the office counter to ask questions or pay your bills, she s the one with medium length dark hair and no southern drawl. The next time she waits on you, tell her thank you for all she does. Joy was born in Phoenix, but was soon transplanted to Albuquerque where she spent her elementary school years. She lived with her grandparents most of her life, and by the time she reached high school age had moved to Thoreau on the Navajo Indian Reservation. Some of her best memories of that time are learning to make Navajo tacos, fry bread and other tribal foods. She also learned healing arts and other Navajo traditions. Does she speak Navajo? Joy says, I don t speak fluent Navajo, but enough so I can tell when they re talking about me! her GED and went on to train as a medical assistant for special needs adults. Her training was followed by a job with developmentally disabled adults in a group home. My heart was totally into it, but after ten years, I finally burned out. Now single, she gave up her job and started over, this time working in a restaurant. There, she met her second husband, an oilfield worker. They married and had a daughter, Ashley. When that marriage ended, Joy followed what she calls her gypsy gene. That resulted in meeting a lot of people and doing a lot of things. For instance, she was nanny to Alice Cooper s three children for three years. She met Glenn Campbell and a host of other stars. She left that job to help her mother in a time of need. Life has not been easy, but Joy credits her faith with seeing her through. And there have been rewards, she is now a grandmother in a five-generation family. Her grandparents now live near her in Tucson and she has a job she likes. It s comfortable, like family. Joy likes meeting people, and for her -- the incurable caregiver -- customer service is tops. She says, Whether I agree with them or not, my goal is to make people happy. Dropping out of high school to get married and have a son didn t slow Joy down. She completed

8 Texas Hold em Tournament The Texas Hold em Tournament, held on Monday, February 6, had twenty-five participants. First place was won by Dan Roden, second place by Steve Carlson, third place by Ray Perdue, fourth place by first time player Judy Ruben, and fifth place by Virgil Darling. Hang in there Virgil! There were twenty-five players at the tournament on February 20. George Golibersuch placed in the number one position with Ed Kania second, Bill Cambers third, Gill Basaldua fourth and Steve Carlson fifth. Tournaments are held on the first and third Monday of each month. Buy-ins start at 5:30 PM with play beginning promptly at 6:00 PM. From The Office: Many of you may have heard the coyote s cries at night. Sometimes we feel like we are in the middle of a Zane Gray novel! We are near their habitat in the wash and we suggest that when you walk your dogs you carry a whistle, and you might even consider pepper spray. The coyotes have been rather bold this year so just be aware and be prepared. A big thank you to those who have been closing and locking the pet gate. As you get ready to leave in the spring, if you are allowing someone to park on your space, remember that there are forms in the office to fill out so that we know who is on your space and who to contact if there is a problem. The residents that leave for the summer, please be sure we have a caretaker listed for you. This person will need to keep the weeds down and be available if there is damage during a summer storm, or any other type of problem that may occur. When phone numbers are changed, please advise the office. There are times when we need to call you and the phone is disconnected. The ban on parking on empty lots continues in effect. There is a $5 per day fine for doing so. There have been occasions when an RV arrives and there is a vehicle parked on their space - thismakes for unhappy campers as well as park employees. Las Vegas Trip There is a three-day, two-night trip scheduled to leave from RCE on March 21, returning on March 23. Cost for the trip is $85 per person, double occupancy. Please sign up in the Activity Office no later than March Reservations for next year: We guarantee a space, however, we do not guarantee a specific space unless the reservation is for 3 months or longer. If you make your reservation by April, you will receive this year s price on that reservation. Sub Renting and Family: Residents that allow family to stay in their unit while they are gone - there is no sub rent due if it is mother, father, son or daughter staying in the unit. All other friends and relatives (whether they pay rent or not) fall under the $10 a day sub rent rule. There is a maximum payment of $1,000 due between September of one year and September of the next. Please fill out the sub rent forms required and submit to the office - this includes who pays the electricity. Each sub renter that comes in the office will receive a welcome packet.
