1 A L I G H A N S H R I N E R S RED FEZ Issue Monthly Publishing April 2018 FROM THE POTENTATE S DESK Good things are happening at Ali Ghan, and we are excited about the opportunity to excel. There are many cool fundraisers as well as events that will keep you busy and involved here at Ali Ghan. By the time this publication comes out, the Children s Easter Egg hunt will have passed. The Band has said that they would play for the event, and many thanks to them for helping. The Masonic CHIP program will be at the Easter egg hunt obtaining data for parents in case something happens and their children become missing. I would like to thank them for hosting that. I would also like to thank everyone who worked so hard to put this event on, once again it is because of you that Ali Ghan is succeeding. On April 21 st we will have the 2018 Ali Ghan Potentates Ball. Please call and RSVP for this event. The price will be $40 per person with choice of Filet Oscar or Chicken Baltimore. Also, for the evening s entertainment, the band Butterscotch Blonde will be playing. Please make you reservations by 3pm on April 13 th, 2018 to be a part of this great event. On May 4 th in the Sultan Bar there will be a Cinco de Mayo party hosted by the past masters unit. This is always a great time. We will have drinks and gaming and an all around good time. Make sure that you don t miss this event. On May 5 th, we will have our 1 st annual combined Masonic bodies ladies night. This Ladies night will take the place of the Shrine Ladies night that is in the year book for September 29 th. As we were looking at honoring our ladies, all of the Masonic bodies to include, The York Rite, The Scottish Rite, The Shrine, The Tall Cedars as well as many of the Blue Lodges in Allegany and Washington Counties, came together and decided that instead of having many ladies nights at different times with limited participation, we would pool our resources and combine all of the ladies nights into one party. As of now, we have almost 160 people signed up, and only have 192 seats. If you are interested in coming to this awesome event, please obtain a flyer from the office and get your money in to Tom Paxton as soon as possible to ensure that you have a seat at the table. Tickets are $25 per person and include a great meal with steak and chicken and entertainment from the band Queen City Funk and Soul. Please make your reservations and lets honor our ladies the way they should be honored. NOBLES: Have you spoken to your Ladies & Family members about your passing and how they should give your Shrine & Masonic items to another Mason in your family or return the items to Ali Ghan Shriners to be given to a deserving noble or be returned to the Masonic Organization? These items include: Fez, Jewelry, Uniform, and more. ~Ali Ghan ShrinE~ Ali Ghan Shriners PO Box 1416 Cumberland, MD Ali Ghan Rd, NE Cumberland, MD As always, we still have the Ace of Clubs every Wednesday evening from 4 pm until 8 pm, with the drawing at 8pm. Come on out and join us and see what a great time hanging out with your friends having a good meal while drinking your favorite adult beverage and gaming can be. Lastly, I would like to say something about our high-end raffle. For those of you who do not know what that is, the Divan has decided to raffle one really nice high-end prize every 3 weeks or so. We usually obtain a prize that is about $1,500 and we sell only 100 tickets for $20. The 1 st raffle was the 65-inch TV and Sound Bar, the 2 nd and 3 rd raffles were the $1,500 of meat from B&B meats. This package allowed the winner to obtain any cut of meat they wanted any time they wanted it. They could literally go and obtain 10 hand cut filets each week until they hit the $1,500 mark. Based upon the excitement and desire for us to keep doing this raffle we have decided that our next raffle will be a gift card for $1,500 of gas from Sheetz. The same rules will apply only 100 tickets will be sold at $20 each. 2
2 If you want a chance to win this prize please let one of the DIVAN members know so we can get you a ticket. As one can see, things are really looking good at Ali Ghan, and it is because of you. You are coming to the events, you are supporting the raffles, and you are volunteering. Things will always be better when we are part of the solution, and we are all now part of the solution. Lets keep doing great things. 4 Well Nobles and ladies, I hope that by the time you read this, the approximately 8 inches of snow and more to come will be gone and we will be working on getting the grass cutting equipment ready to go. Our unit building has been cleaned and is ready for the first spaghetti dinner on April 2 nd with the exception of getting the carpet cleaned and that is set to happen in a few days. The Shrine memorial service was held on March 4th and our unit was remembered four times with the passing of Richard Pyles, Hunt Smith, Tom Bryant, and Harry Hartman Jr. The Railroad unit grew by one member as Carson Reinhart joined at our last meeting and we welcome him and know he will be a good member. Tom Valentine and I have been kept busy the last week by several hospital trips as we made one trip to Erie, one trip to Cincinnati and was scheduled to go to Philadelphia on the 21 st, but had to reschedule due to the weather. It is very humbling to visit the hospitals and see how what we do as Shriner s helps children and their families. I hope everyone has had a chance to attend the Motor Corp fish fry each Friday during Lent as they are doing a good job and the dinners are very good. We are reminded to keep anyone who we know is down with an illness in our prayers. Our March unit meeting was well attended with approximately 15 members in attendance. Our next meeting is on April 5 th at 7 pm. Hope to see you there. Be sure to check our add for the upcoming spaghetti dinners in the Fez and also we are still accepting salad dressing donations from our unit members. Public is welcome and will be a guest of a RR Unit member. Respectfully Submitted, Wayne D. Robertson Sr. Railroad Unit Calendar Winners 7 8

12 Ali Ghan Shriners P.O. Box 1416 Cumberland, MD NON PROFIT ORG. US POSTAGE PAID CUMBERLAND, MD PERMIT NO. PI 60 Straight from the Recorder s Office Hello all, March has been another busy month here at Ali Ghan Shrine Club. It was very beautiful on the first day of Spring at Ali Ghan Shrine Club when it snowed about 14 inches. It was quite lovely actually however; it did cause the Ace of Clubs night to be cancelled one night as well as the Adult Easter Egg Hunt. The Recorder has been busy going back to Recorder s School in March for continued education and learning all about what the next Recorder s move will be here at Ali Ghan Shrine. He is back and appears to be well educated :) New construction on the stairs and ramp have begun for the Sultan Bar entrance area. It is nice to witness the improvements being done here at Ali Ghan Shrine. We also had a clean out the main closet day, which held over 40 years of Club documents and Ali Ghan was successfully reunited with their original blueprints as well as other interesting memories from the past. When it was over, we were all covered in so much dust we were barely recognizable! It was very fun though :) The following message is direct from the Recorder: Ali Ghan Shrine currently has a membership of 768 Nobles. Our previous high was in 2014 with 1,005 members. Since 2014, we have created 104 Nobles, 10 Affiliated Nobles, and 28 Restored Nobles. However, we have lost; 36 Nobles to Demit, 176 Nobles to Suspension, and 123 Nobles to the Black Camel. We currently have 91 Nobles with a non-payment of dues (2018) status. Our projected membership for our temple: 2020 = 647, 2022 = 577 and ten years from now = 408. Needless to say We need members! Also, 2017 Hospital Transportation Report (As complied by Keith Hamby) Total Shriner man hours 1054 Total Dollars $ *Total dollars is smaller amount spent as some trip sheets were incomplete in regards to expenses. Mileage: Family Driven = 5364 Shrine Driven = = Total Trips: Family Driven = 13 Shrine Driven = 44 = Total = 57 That s all for now until next month Stephanie 23 PLEASE SEND ALL NEWSLETTERS TO alighanshriners@atlanticbbn.net 24
