This is our new monthly newsletter with monthly updates of information and events happening at Laketown Gymnastics. In addition Laketown Happenings will be featuring athletes or groups each month. LINK TO ORDER Welcome to Jim Holt Coach Jim Holt Laketown Gymnastics would like to welcome Jim Holt to our team coaching staff! Jim was a gymnast at Washington State University where he was nationally ranked on rings. Following his time as a gymnast, he worked as head coach of the university from In the years to follow, he coached internationally attending fourteen World Championships, representing seven different federations. At the 1994 World Championships he coached Paul O Neil to a silver medal on rings. His experience also includes instruction and development of Junior Olympic and High School gymnasts over the past thirty years. In addition to coaching, Holt has many other contributions to the sport including serving 2 terms as National Membership Director on USAG s Board of directors, selection committee member for USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame and the author of two books on gymnastics: Coaching Gymnastics for Women (2004) and Chasing Impossible Dreams (2009). Jim s experience and passion for development of proper technique has been an asset for many programs and will be an exciting edition to the Laketown Gymnastics Team.

Despite a little rain, gymnasts showed up to support Laketown Gymnastics as well as cheer on the Waconia Wildcats who were victorious over the Chaska Hawks, winning the game Floor Routine Fun Coaches Afton and Nicole have been busy choreographing and teaching new routines to gymnasts at Laketown. Laketown gymnasts have been working hard to memorize their routines and put the pieces all together. Over the next few months we will begin polishing exact movements to draw the crowd in. Learning floor routines is the first sign that competition season is around the corner. Upcoming Events Laketown Haunted House On Friday, October 28 and Saturday, October 29 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Laketown Gymnastics will be hosting the annual Haunted House for gymnasts and community members. Admission to go through the Haunted House will be $2 each time. We hope to see you there! Halloween Open Gym Fundraiser On Saturday, October 29 from 6:00 to 8:00 the levels team gymnasts and parents will be hosting a Halloween Open Gym to fundraise for their new team leotards. Halloween treats will be available for purchase at the snack shop. We hope to pack the gym that night! Please mark the date on your calendar and stop by the Haunted House while you are there as well. In October, Flip for the Future will be launching on Laketown s website. Families will be able to go to the page and donate to the gym through our sponsorship program. There are three levels of sponsorships: Level 1 - $100 Level 2 - $250 Level 3 - $500 Various gifts are provided at each level of donations to thank you for your contributions to Laketown Gymnastics. Additionally, all sponsors at every level will be recognized on our donor wall. We will soon begin hanging the names of our generous family and community members that have made donations thus far. Laketown Gymnastics is growing and donations will be used for improvement in the gym such as internal expansion, purchasing and maintaining equipment, a new roof and a scholarship program to help meet the needs of the community. Laketown Gymnasts at to attend training camp Two gymnasts from Laketown have been selected to participate in the Region 4 training camp. 15-year-old Mimi Lucido, a level 10 gymnast and 16-year-old Gabrielle Johnson, a level 9 gymnast will represent Laketown at the camp held at Classic Gymnastics in Chanhassen on October 7-9. Gymnasts are chosen to go to the training camp through a special selection process. The top gymnasts in Region 4 will have a chance to work with a variety of college coaches, one being KJ Kindler, head coach of the Oklahoma Sooners and current defending national champions. Other coaches will represent colleges such as University of Denver, Southern Utah University and Oregon State University. Region 4 consists of gymnasts from Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. What an awesome opportunity for two of our Laketown gymnasts! LAKETOWN HAPPENINGS Issue 1 5 LG Compulsories Take the Floor by Afton Windsperger MEET THE GYMNASTS The month of October can mean a lot of things.

It was clear the gymnasts were filled with two emotions: Excitement for the first meet but the butterflies that come along with knowing it is coming quickly.

5 LAKETOWN HAPPENINGS Issue 1 5 LG Compulsories Take the Floor by Afton Windsperger MEET THE GYMNASTS The month of October can mean a lot of things. Football season is going strong, the weather is getting colder, Halloween is approaching, but for Laketown Gymnastics Level 4 Team it is the beginning of their competition season. The team is made up of four gymnasts Kiera Eischens (9), Ava Piller (8), Mackenzie Melquist (9), and Rozlynn Loeschen (9). When asked how many days away their first meet was, Mackenzie appeared to be looking at a mental calendar and Kiera counted on her fingers. Seven no, six days! she exclaimed. It was clear the gymnasts were filled with two emotions: Excitement for the first meet but the butterflies that come along with knowing it is coming quickly. Good thing they actually still had twelve days to prepare. Despite butterflies Kiera made sure to clarify she was not nervous at all and excited to compete bars, especially a skill called a squat on-jump to the high bar. Ava then raised her hand politely and stated she was nervous for her jump to the high bar. Kenzie nodded in agreement. It looks so far away but it s actually not, said Ava. Rozlynn also expressed excitement to compete bars while Ava and Kenzie shared a love for floor exercise getting to dance and perform the routines. Laketown Gymnastics will also have two gymnasts competing as Level 5 gymnasts for the first meet. LiLi Raidt (11) and Olivia Peters (10) will compete with the goal to receive a high enough all-around score to pass up to Level 6. The Level 6 season begins in December. The more experienced Level 5 gymnasts expressed excitement for other aspects of the meet. Olivia said, To go and get a scarf! which is something all gymnasts receive at the Razzle Dazzle Invite hosted by Legacy Gymnastics. We also get to come back and compete for more medals if we score 1 st or 2 nd. Last year we were having a competition, LiLi said, referencing a friendly rivalry between the two teammates. I won! said Olivia. LiLi and Olivia exchanged smirks as if to say there would be a rematch at the upcoming competition. Level 4 & 5 gymnasts in USAG compete compulsory routines, meaning that they will perform a set of uniform routines created by USA gymnastics with set rules and guidelines. Therefore, all gymnasts at a compulsory meet will essentially compete the same exact routine throughout the season, regardless of age or gym that a gymnast attends. The Level 3-5 compulsory program prepares gymnasts for the Level 6-10 optional program where gymnasts begin to compete a variety of skills and originally composed routines. The first meet will be at Fort Snelling on Saturday, October 8.
