2 We hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and that you were able to catch some of the great deals starting Thanksgiving Day. We went down to my son s place for dinner (his first try and everything was delish except the turkey, which didn t get cooked - the charcoal grill needs wind for the turkey to cook and there was none). We came back to the house and two of his sons and one grandson came over for pie (Amy was with his other grandson who was sick). Very nice day. Strangest thing I had put on a list to call Hank & Barbara Nachbar and Bob Brown because we had not seen them for sometime, AND they showed up at our October gathering. So, I see how it works, if you don t show up I will put you on my list to call and check on and you will be at the next gathering. Bob had been busy at work and Barb had had spinal surgery in August and is now doing much better. We had a great October meeting with 20 in attendance. Because the Diner is on winter hours we will start our gathering at 6:30pm and the dinner at 5:30pm. We ended the October Gathering with a presentation of Just Add Spice, or "How to Add FUN to the Gatherings." Dottie Benware has stepped down as our Sunshine Lady and Katy Nutting has graciously volunteered to fill her shoes. Kate Ludwig was back in the hospital because she developed an infection in her bone, but is now recovering at home under Nurse Bob s care. Our Chapter dinner was in Amsterdam (to accommodate our members from the south and west), at the Rustic Loft Pub. It was an excellent place to eat, the waitress was entertaining and the desserts were yummy, and the owner came over and chatted with us. We should go back once our snow birds are back from the warmer climate. Katy Nutting and Linda Pileggi shopped for two families so that they would have a wonderful Thanksgiving. It is the Chapter s way of giving back. We will also buy gifts for two families for Christmas. On December 5 th, there will be a ride-planning meeting for 2019 at 6:30pm at the Nutting s residence (31 Casino Drive, Saratoga Springs). This year was an absolutely terrible riding season, BUT we did a lot of things (sometimes in four wheels) and had a lot of FUN. It seemed that our longer trips Maine, Knoxville and Watertown were rain- free when we were on our trusty steeds. Our Chapter dinners, breakfasts and game nights proved very popular and we will continue for next year. I have been collecting ideas over the year, so I believe we have a head start on an exciting 2019! Let s hope the weather is better! Please come so we have everyone s input, or let me know your ideas at gwrra.nyn.cd@gmail.com. Chapter NY-N's Christmas Party is once again at the Saratoga National Golf Course (thank you, Steve Nutting) on December 16th. Social hour starts at 4:00 pm, and dinner will be served at 5:30pm. The cost will be $30/person and the choice of meal is steak, chicken or fish. Mail your money to Donna Cork, NY-N 2
3 Treasurer, and include your choice of meal(s), by December 10 th. In the Newsletter there is a flyer and additional information. The gift exchange is optional. We hope everyone s Holidays (Hanukkah, Christmas and New Year s) are WONDERFUL!!! Ride safe and have FUN!! Eileen & Tim 3
4 Looking Ahead First and foremost, I would like to thank all of our officers from the District right down to the Chapter level. Without all of your leadership, Rider Ed would be nothing better than whipping a dead horse. On the contrary, Rider Ed in New York is stronger than ever. We have rider course instructors in both trike and two-wheel, and now I have been informed that GWRRA has added a course for those of you with the add-on (Voyager Kit) to your bikes. Here is the good news: we now have three instructors who can present all three of these courses. We have instructors in all areas of the State in CPR-First Aid. Guile is busy training people to present the new modules (I still call them seminars) and she is always looking for new people to step up. As you can see, things are happening in the District, and now it s up to all of you, so here is what I would hope you will all do. Just because your Bike is all tucked away for the winter does not mean that Chapter activity hibernates until the bloom of spring. On the contrary, this should be some of the most active time in your Chapter. You have three months of cold and snow, so how about scheduling a gathering and presenting one or two modules, or a CPR-First Aid class. Have everyone bring a dish to pass (never met a GWRRA member yet who doesn t like to eat) and make a day of it with good friends. This is a great time of the year to start planning the direction the Chapter wants to go for the next riding season. Ice cream rides, all day rides, weekend get-aways, a trip to Wing Ding, there is no limit to what you can do. Do you have a Tech Day at the beginning of your riding season? This is a great time to help each other get their bikes ready to ride. Now I would like to quote the Lottery, If you want to win it, you got to get in it. All the programs in the world will not do any good if no one uses them. It s up to all of you. I would hope that you will need to have name tags at these events for all of the new faces that you, the faithful few, bring with you. If any Chapter need help with planning or putting on an event, my phone is always on and I m only a call away. So how about it, do you feel the pull to take advantage of all GWRRA has to offer? Come on, jump in - the water's fine. Finally, Nancy and I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. All the Gear All the Time: Cliff & Nancy Schaal NY-DE cliffschaal@hotmail.com

6 Chuckles... Jokes for your grandchildren: How do you fix a pumpkin? With a pumpkin patch. What do you get when you cross a cantaloupe with Lassie? A melon collie baby. What did the grape say when the elephant stepped on it? It just let out a little whine. What do you call a male deer that is just crazy about a female deer? You call him a doe nut. What does a baby ear of corn call its father? Pop Corn, of course. What do you call a butcher s dance? A meat ball. Oh, here s one The Professional She lay quivering, her head resting against the cool white pillows, relaxed. He leaned above her, smiling, and his voice seemed far away. You re not sorry? he asked softly. She shook her head. Sorry she was glad, so very glad! She had been aghast when he first made the suggestion, yet after she had seen him again and again, she knew he would have his way it was inevitable. Finally, she consented. How well she remembered what followed: knocking timidly on his door and being led in. How they had spoken casually of mundane things, rejecting the thought uppermost in both their minds. How he had been so gentle and so solicitous of her comfort. Then, how he had bent over her, his knee touching hers. Close, then closer. She could feel again his breath on her throat, the warmth of his hands on her cheeks, his whole body striving for accomplishment. And the final ecstatic pang, her reeling senses, the world slipping away and now it was over. Her tooth was out! Ok, one more My Prayer So far today, God, I ve done all right. I haven t gossiped, haven t lost my temper, haven t been greedy, or grumpy, nasty or self-centered. I m really glad about that. But in a few minutes, God, I m going to get out of bed, and then I m going to need a lot of help. Thank you. 6
