2 From Our Director Doug Spire WOW, What an outstanding day DOTH was this year!! I heard there were over 700 participants that signed up and rode for a great cause. The weather turned out to be beautiful and everything seemed to go off without any major issues. Last I heard there was over $50,000 raised this year for MDA, GREAT job to everyone. For those that volunteered for DOTH, it was a busy time trying to stay ahead of all the excitement and I want to personally thank everyone for their efforts, it could not happen without you. I know a lot of people will be heading to Sturgis in the next week so please ride safe and have a blast. As for organized EVHOG events, we still have a lot of riding time left and there are some great rides scheduled on the calendar. I know of a least two 1 day rides to Kansas City coming up, one to the HD Factory Tour Open House and another for some good ole KC BBQ. Other rides include pancake feeds, jailhouses, Danish windmills, rustic inns, and casinos. There is also a lot of days left for the remainder of the year so if you have any ideas for any ride destinations, please let us know and we will try to get it on the calendar. I challenge everyone to try to make at least one more riding event before it gets to cold. Please, plan on attending the NE State HOG Rally in late August!! Please go out onto the website and look at the updated activity listing that has been getting approved and posted on a routine basis as the event draws closer. As we have been saying, the opening ceremony will be hosted at Dillon Brothers and feature the same activities as Throttle Thursday including a live band. From there we will be having multiple activities going on throughout the 3.5 days including a lot of different rides, a walking poker run in The Old Market and possibly a scavenger hunt there as well, biker games, a cookout at Holsteins HD on Friday evening, and much, much more. Make sure to attend and be part of this great HOG event!! Other upcoming State Rallies that are happening over the next month in surrounding states are: Michigan Birch Run Aug Doug

3 From Our Assistant Director and Safety Officer-Jim Lottman Okay July is gone and August is here. This means riding season is in full swing and Sturgis is here. What goes along with Sturgis is more bikes and vehicles on the road heading to South Dakota. So from the Safety Officer pay close to attention to traffic. You will probably see many vehicles pulling trailers and if you need to pass give yourself plenty of time as you will have more distance travel to get around them. This is especially true on 2 lane highways as you may face oncoming traffic. August looks to be a month of scheduled rides. The rides listed are stops in the Rumble Run book so be sure to have your books with you on the rides. If you don t have a book you can still pick one up at the dealer. If you are interested in any of these rides please register via the activity page. Just a reminder that the Nebraska State Rally is just weeks away and is in Omaha this year. We are the host chapter and Dillon s is the sponsoring dealer. The dates of the rally are August 28 th thru August 31 st. Early registration is closed but you will still be able to register on site August 28 th from 4 to 6 p.m. and 29 th from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. If anyone is interested in volunteering please contact Patti at brapm01@gmail.com or go to and click on the volunteer link to sign up. 4 From Our LOH Officer Linda Westerhold Wow the summer sure did kick into high gear but thankfully we were blessed by some awesome riding days in the 80 s! The DOTH poker run was jam packed with participants and we saw a lot of riders out enjoying the day. If you weren t able to make it, you missed a fun time. The streets in the towns of Cedar Bluffs, Yutan, Nickerson, and Fort Calhoun felt like some of the towns around Sturgis during the rally. Bikes were lined up on both sides of the streets and in Nickerson even lined up in the middle of the streets. The MDA folks and kids were having a great time at the stops as were Blake, Sid, and Cathy Dillon. The event was topped off with the raffle drawing for the street glide and the winner of this year s raffle ticket was a sister of one of our very own EVHOG members. Overall, the event was a HUGE success and I was glad to be a part of it. Coming up on August 23 rd is the first ever LOH EVHOG Luau. We ve been busy planning for the Luau which will be held at Gene and Cathy Welchert s home. This will be an Aloha: Hoohoihoi [ho oh hoy hoy] for our chapter. The main dish will be provided as will Mai Tais for everyone. As with any Luau be prepared to get your Lai at the door on the way in from one of the hostesses. We ll have some fun games such as the limbo, Hawaiian Shirt Contest, and hula-belly-hoop contest and more. Bring a side dish to share, a swim suit to wear, and something to sit on such as a chair. (There s a little Dr. Seuss in all of us! <wink>) We ll be meeting at Dillon s at 12:45 for a 1:00 kickstands up for a short ride to the Welcherts where the Waukau Looka good time Luau will be happening. If you don t want to ride together, you can show up any time after 1:30 at the Welcherts if you know where you re going!

5 The View from the Back of the Bike Tad Volkmann This Month in Harley-Davidson History 1907 (107 years ago) William A. Davidson, brother of Arthur and Walter Davidson, quit his job as Tool Foreman at the locomotive back shop of the Milwaukee Road Railroad, and joined the Motor Company. Just one month later, the Harley-Davidson Motor Company was incorporated. The stock was split four ways between the founders (including William S. Harley). The staff size doubled to 18, and the factory on Chestnut Street (later renamed Juneau Avenue) double in size to 28 x 80 feet. The fact that William A. Davidson came to Harley-Davidson from the Milwaukee Road Railroad particularly intrigued me, as I am a railroader. I am looking for EVHOG members interested in being featured in the Then and Now series. 10 This Rally begins at Dillon Brothers Harley-Davidson in Omaha. Area attractions include the the 'Old Market', Durham Museum, Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo, Dodge House, Union Pacific Museum, Lauritzen Gardens, Strategic Air & Space Museum, and more. Some of the area Nebraska State Parks that can be visited while at the rally are Mahoney, Platte River, Indian Cave, and other Nebraska State Parks and Recreation Areas. Fun activities are being planned in the Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa region with rides in the Loess Hills area. Make plans to join us for a fun filled Labor Day Weekend.

14 Day of the HOG 2014 is in the books. The weather was almost perfect, we had over 700 riders and passengers enjoying the Poker route, the good people of Bennington came out to enjoy our evening with us and Jeanne Knight had the winning ticket for the 2014 street glide (though we re not sure that s what she choose). Keelan our MDA Ambassador enjoyed riding in the sidecar, and the other kids that rode with Sid & Blake Dillon in the sidecars had big smiles when they arrived in Bennington. Everyone enjoyed the music from Life of Riley & Robert J and the Most (formerly known as Quartus). Good songs and good times! We don t have our final numbers raised for Muscular Dystrophy yet, but we re positive we had another very successful Day of the HOG.
