Burris lifetime reflections serve as a memoir of his time in the Napa Valley. A talk will follow the reception. Refreshments will be served. Lance Burris is fifth generation Californian who graduated from St. Helena High School. Upon retiring in 2007, he returned to the Napa Valley. Burris did not formally study art, but he has always painted, and now works full time as a writer and painter. 2 Library News Summer Reading at the Library Can we be friends? Friends & Foundation, St. Helena Public Library helps our Library create a community where reading, learning and imagination thrive. If you have come to the Library to... treat your child to storytime enjoy a musical event hear an author speak watch your child build their own Lego creation listen to an exciting guest lecturer see an art exhibit and engage with the artist borrow a book, an e-book or a DVD... you have benefited from Friends & Foundation! Your generous gifts to Friends & Foundation help us support our world-class Library by providing funds to enhance library collections and programing. Your gift reaps huge rewards for our community. According to Greg Lucas, the California State Librarian, Smart investors concentrate resources on areas that show the greatest rate of return for the amount invested. Dollars invested in libraries return 10-fold dividends. You can donate today by visiting or by sending a check made out to FFSHPL to FFSHPL, P.O. Box 171, St. Helena, CA You can also drop a check off at the circulation desk. A NOTE FROM Library Director Chris Kreiden This year the Library is proud to present three summer reading programs: There is our traditional program for children with a theme of Reading by Design with Little Eliott the Elephant. For every ten books read (or the equivalent) the reader earns a prize. No one is too young to join in the fun, if a child can t yet read they can be read to. Any young participant who reaches 100 books by the end of summer will join our Reader s Hall of Fame. For those young at heart, the theme for our second adult summer reading program is bingo. For every bingo completed by September 1st, you will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win our grand prize of two tickets to Bookmark Napa Valley 2018 which will be held this coming January by Friends & Foundation, St. Helena Public Library. The authors to be highlighted at this event have yet to be announced. There is also the chance to win $25 gift cards to each of the following: Cameo Cinema, Gott s Roadside, Main Street Books, or Napa Valley Coffee Roasting Company. And new this year is our first ever summer reading program just for teens. Again the theme is bingo but with its own teen twist. Each bingo provides an opportunity to win a $25 gift card to either Gott s Roadside or the Napa Valley Coffee Roasting Company, or the grand prize of a $50 gift card for a night at Cameo Cinema. Thank you, Friends & Foundation, for sponsoring the Library s summer reading programs and prizes, along with our events this summer. Thank you for supporting our Library! Maria Criscione Stel Executive Director
