1 2005 Commodore s Report Pat Hansen Calendar 9/6 Seattle Sail & Power Squadron WELCOME BACK! Can t believe it is ember already. It has been an absolutely wonderful summer and I hope you all have had great safe - boating adventures. It is now time to start thinking about fall and getting back to shorter days and cooler nights. It is also time for our Fall Work Party on ember 10 th - the Fishing Derby the week-end of 16, 17, and 18 and the Wine Tour the first week-end in October. ember through December are busy times for the club and the rental calendar is starting to fill up. If you would like to rent the club for a meeting or a party please contact me. The updated calendar is on our web site so you can check the dates available. If PSYC had a Wish List it would be for a couple of new(er) couches for upstairs at the club. The ones we have which were graciously donated have seen their last days. If anyone is thinking about new furniture, or downsizing, PSYC would make a good home for the couches you just don t know what to do with. Please let me know if we can provide a new home for them. I can be reached at (evenings) or (week-days) It is also time to think about your new Officers for next year. Please contact Al Hawks if you would like to throw your hat into the ring. This is your opportunity for you to make a difference. Looking forward to seeing all of you. 2 Page 2 Hel lo Vice Commodore s Report - Barry Ellingson I sure hope everyone has been taking advantage of the great boating season. Marcia and I spent 2 weeks between the Canadian and US gulf Islands with three other club boats and had great time and the weather could not have been nicer. We ended at Vacation Connection at Fishermen s Bay where we had great food and games thanks to hard work by the cruise captains. Since then we have been local including Hat Island. What a great summer. Now, for the business at hand. The club facilities are in pretty good shape right now. Our rental income is good thanks to Pat s hard work. At this point it looks like we should have some money for year end upgrades, but the board wants to see the amount before selecting what projects to do. We will be adding a new spot on our web page next year for making reservations on Hat Island docks. You will still be able to call Hat but can use the web if you find it easier. You will hear more about it at a later date. Now the important stuff!! There is a Work Party on ember 10 th. There is a list of things to do, none are major. As it is the HUSKIES HOME OPENER (GO DAWGS!!) we should be close enough to done by 11 for Dawg fans to leave for the game. We will start at 8:30 so bring your work gloves and Husky gear and pitch in. I will have coffee and muffins for you when you arrive. Safe Boating Rear Commodore s Report Mike Haistings Here we are at the end of the summer and most of us have some incredible boating vacation stories to share. Lisa & I took spent most of August north around the Broughton Islands and back down to Desolation Sound. This is truly a boating paradise, lots of wildlife, awesome weather, and we had nice calm water. What more could you ask for? We met up with a few of our yacht club members (Kevin & Joyce Carlson, Jack & Sandy McBrady, and Kevin & Kim Haistings and family), it was nice to spend some vacation time together with them. The month ended with a nice cruise down to Olympia for Harbor Day s. Gary & Donna did a wonderful job coordinating the weekend & keeping members well fed. It was nice to see some Bellevue Yacht Club members attend as guests. have additional information available at the regular club meeting on the 21 st and also via over the next week. There are also spaces for RV at the same location as last year. This is always a great time, Judy does a great job coordinating with the wineries; please feel free to contact Judy Quick if you have any questions. I look forward to hearing about your boating vacation & hope to see everyone at the work party this weekend!!!! Our next social is quickly upon us. It is our annual trip to wine country on ember 30 th through October 2 nd, so save the date. The tour will start in Yakama on Friday with a wine tasting at 4 wineries and lunch for those that can get away early. You will need to reserve your own hotel room; Judy has a block of rooms at the Clarion Hotel in the Richland. The phone number is (509) ; contact is Becca Davis; and, the address is 1515 George Washington Way, Richland, WA. Room rates are $68/night per couple. Please reserve early!!! Judy will
3 Page 3 Fleet Captain s Report - Bill Dils Hello club members! Wow; what a summer we have had. Great cruises and more to come. The Andrews Bay cruise was a great success. As in the past Chris Kullmann did a bang-up job. The food was great with barbecued Chicken, Pork and Beef with Hot Fudge Sundaes for desert. Dingy parades, swimming, good books and food. Also after my last report we had the Gig Harbor Pirates Cruise. Here is the cruise captain s report: Yo Ho Matey's. Shiver me timbers if the cruise to Gig Harbor went off without a hitch. A minor storm never stopped a good PSYC pirate, arrr, arrr. They were courageous to a man/wench. They'd be sail'in in for three rat infested days of fun. About 32 folks. Treasures were found, grog was drunk, gruel was devoured and wenches were plentiful. The horsd ouveres were grand and the "treasure hidden brownies were a success made by Kathy Ornelas. Many of me scurvy mates were present on their ships: Blackjack, Benken, Cookie Too, Desdemona, Enchantress, Earthriser, Flying High, Joysea, Shifting Gears II, Surfun, Sea Pickle, Safari, Valhalla Princess.. Forgive me if I have forgotten someone, me hook gets in me way as well as the grog. To my disgust, no pirates were lost. The costumes were to die for, arrrgh. Tom Layborn and Les Alluisi won the costume prize, Rum. The wenches were beautiful, voluptuous and ravishing. War was called; muskets and bats were drawn when the Pittsburg Pirates showed up in the guise of Kevin and Joyce Carlson. There would be "No Quarter," Loser would walk the plank. The ivory carving contest was won by Chris Thomsen; his carving of a man's head was awesome. His prize was cards painted by Jeannie White will be treasured. Rum from Puerto Rico will be drunk by Kevin Carlson for winning the Pirates Puzzle contest. The Cruise Captains, Olivia Noiseux, Jeannie & Bob White and Ron & Greta Zylstra wish ye Good Winds and Fair Sailing. Looking forward to the following cruises.
