1 NOVEMBER/DECEMBER /08 NEWSLETTER Country Lovers Western Dance Club Nov / Dec 2008 Volume 3, Issue 5 Who s In the Saddle: President Carol Rogers Vice President Francine Mackey Treasurer Ernie Johnson Secretary Sue Ellen Colp Directors Marshall Throneberry Becky Blanchet Mike Stark Past President Deanna Hatcher Newsletter Editor Tricia C. Ryan IdeasByTricia@yahoo.com Deadline: 20th of even month Instructors:: Hello, Country Lovers! By Carol Rogers, President Well, here it is! The end of my two year term already! I m giddy and sad (but not too sad). Next year s board will be awesome. Even though they haven t been voted in yet, we know who they will be. Each Candidate is running unopposed. One of the very best things I love about Country Lovers is the members. You guys are the best! Everyone is so friendly and always willing to promote the Club. Tuesday nights are one of my favorite nights of the week. And I can t forget to mention our wonderful Board of Directors: Francine Mackey current V. Pres., soon to be your next president, Sue Ellen Colp Secretary, Ernie Johnston treasurer, Directors Becky Blanchett, Mike Stark & Marshall Throneberry & past president Deanna Jones. Please make sure you tell these dedicated people Thanks for their time & energy they gave the club over the past two years. Here are some of the things the club has done over the last two years. Our membership has grown slightly from 90 in 2006 to 96 currently. We have performed demos at some new places, like Cypress Place, Santa Paula Chevrolet & St John s Lutheran School. We raised over $1000 at our semi-annual yard sales at Ventura College. The Adopt-A-Poll fundraisers will have brought in over $ after November s elections. Last year we donated $300 to Children s Auxiliary Services, $300 to Toys for Tots (as well as toys) and $300 to Project Understanding. The members and the club also donated $1000 to Food Share in honor of Bob s & my son, Daniel, for which we are so grateful. We also won First Place in 2007 & 2008 for the St. Patrick s Day Parade AND the Fair Parade! All these things we could not have accomplished with out the hard work of all the members. You all have been very supportive and I want you to know that the Board & I appreciate each and every one of you for your support. Thanks again and I ll be seeing you out on the dance floor!..very Important Francine Mackey Sue Ellen Colp Deanna Hatcher Marshall Throneberry Jim Potter Angela Escalante Jesse Wilson A Big THANK YOU! To everyone who worked Adopt-A-Poll, Thank you for volunteering! Job well done!

2 N OVEM BER /D ECEM BER /08 N EW SLETTER Tim McGraw to host Saturday Night Live (posted 11/10) By Gayle Richardson on DA BOOT Live from New York, it's Tim McGraw! The country superstar, actor and author is adding yet another role on his evergrowing resume: 'Saturday Night Live' host. The first country artist to serve as host this millennium, he joins an elite list that includes Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Garth Brooks and Dolly Parton as the few country artists in the history of the show asked to host. "I'm looking forward to hosting the show," said McGraw. "I'm not exactly known for my comedy, but then again if you've been to one of my shows you might feel differently!" McGraw's November 22 'SNL' show coincides with the release the following week of his new movie, 'Four Christmases.' McGraw says he hopes the comedic chops of his allstar cast in the movie rubbed off on him. "Hopefully hanging around Vince Vaughn, Reese Witherspoon and Jon Favreau is good training," he says. McGraw has been campaigning for a spot on 'SNL' for a long time. His agent, Rod Essig, tells Nashville's Tennessean newspaper that he called the producers of the show every week for five years. When Essig finally got the go-ahead, he delivered the news to McGraw himself, who couldn't believe it. No way, that's not true," McGraw responded. But once he was convinced, the country star wasted no time in giving Essig another goal to shoot for: "I want the halftime show at the Super Bowl one year, too." Tim McGraw hosts 'Saturday Night Live' on November 22, 11:30 PM ET on NBC *CL Member ELLEN J. 4 A Country Lovers Recipe By Ernie Johnson Sitting here at a little league game, watching Monica s grandchildren (the twins, Nickolas and Sean), play ball, wondering what I should write about. Tricia said I should give a recipe and I probably will, but I need more fluff than that. A few people asked for the Lomi Lomi salmon recipe, from the picnic. This is not a very good dish for Halloween or Thanksgiving, unless of course you are from the islands and celebrate Halowaiian or Alohagiving. So here it goes. Ingredients 1 ½ lb of fresh Salmon fillets Hawaiian salt or Sea salt 3 Tomatoes 1 large Maui onion 4 green onions ¼ cup of Lime juice 1/8 to ¼ tsp. Tabasco sauce (or other hot sauce) Country Lovers February Super Bowl Dance First you must prepare the salmon. Cover the bottom of a glass dish with the salt and lay the salmon on the salt. Put a layer of salt on top of the salmon and press the salt into the salmon by using a paper towel or your hands if clean. Put the dish with salmon into the refrigerator for 24 hours. Go to bed or line dancing and worry about the rest of the recipe tomorrow. (Nickolas just got a double) The next day remove the dish from the refrigerator and thoroughly rinse the salt off the salmon. Dry the salmon completely and dice or pull apart the salmon into small pieces. Chop up the tomatoes, Maui onion and the green onions and throw them out at first base, oh excuse me I got carried away with the game. I mean throw them into a bowl. Add the lime juice and as much Tabasco as you like. By the way you don t have to add any Tabasco if you don t like. The next step is where the name of this dish comes from. Use gloves if you like or bare hands if they are clean and massage the mixture. Lomi means to massage. After all that cover the bowl with Saran wrap or a towel and place in the refrigerator until ready to serve. This dish is served cold. Oh by the way the Twins team won the game 9 to 0 and the two of them alternated at pitcher and catcher in the last two innings, striking out the side in both innings, well - all most. Stay tuned for more delicious ball games. I meant recipes. - Ernie Editors Note Thanks Ernie! 4
