2 Sanford Preschool News Social-emotional development is a big part of our preschool curriculum. Children are developing awareness of one's feelings, how to control those feelings, and learning how to understand others feelings. Working with others, acknowledging children's feelings, and maintaining healthy relationships will help promote positive behaviors and better leaders at home, at school, and in the community. In preschool we use the Seven Habits of Happy Kids to teach socialemotional development. During the month of November, students will practice the socialemotional skills of being thankful, having friendships, sharing and working together in school, at home, within our families, and in our community. We will also discuss cultural diversity. Some of the topics preschoolers will learn about are: My Body/Nutrition, Community Helpers, and Harvesting/Thanksgiving. If you would like to come in and do an activity with the class, please sign-up on the day of your choice. 15 minute activities work well with preschool children. Mrs. Malouff and Mrs. Martinez

3 FCCLA So far, this year has been successful. Recently we attended the Fall Conference; it was a blast. We also picked projects and started to work on them. One of our Chapter Service Projects is collecting items to put in care packages for our brave soldiers. This is just the beginning. In addition, we have been working hard to fundraise the money in order to pay for the state competition and nationals. One way we have done this is by selling butter braids. Also, we have been and will continue to sell donuts to both high school and elementary students for one dollar each. We sell to high school students on Tuesdays and to elementary students on Thursdays. We encourage those who want to support our FCCLA chapter to do so by eating some donuts. By: Diana Hawkins

4 Student Council This year has literally flown by, and Student Council has been working hard. We have had to hit the ground running. During the last few weeks we have had to plan may activities. These include the Student Council Homecoming Games, Red Ribbon Week, the Halloween Dance, Alive at 25, the Thanksgiving Food Drive, and the Veterans Day program The Homecoming Games/Activities were a great success. Everyone had a blast. During Red Ribbon Week Student Council members presented to the elementary about why it is so important that people stay drug free. In addition, the whole school pledged to be drug free for life. At the Halloween dance, the high school students had a great time as they danced and played games; it was a great party. The next activity for Student Council was the Veterans Day program. We always want our heroes to know that we appreciate their sacrifice. This program was held on November 10th and was entirely student focused. Also, Student Council is currently holding a Thanksgiving Food Drive. The food collected will be donated to the SLV Food Bank. Please support those in need. Finally, we would like to inform those whom it may concern that there will be an Alive at 25 class on 12/6, at the school. We are working hard to keep on top of activities and fun for the student body. Thanks for the support. By: Diana Hawkins

5 Dance, Dance, Dance Eat, sleep, dance, repeat. As the Sanford Indian dance team approaches the state competition, they are working very hard to perfect their art. They are keeping their heads up and their kicks higher. The girls are working on techniques and striving for perfection. They are excited to see what happens at state. They have the biggest team going to state that there has been in years. It is an exciting time. Good luck Indian dancers! By: Diana Hawkins

6 Indian Cheerleading This year s basketball Indian cheerleading squad is off to a great start. They are working hard. Currently, there are eleven members, but the final number is yet to be determined. All of the girls like their coach. They are working hard to implement the basket toss in their stunts. They are excited for the upcoming season and hope that everyone will come out and help them cheer on our Indian athletes. Go big green! By: Jacob Deacon Indian Wrestling The Sanford Indian wrestling team is off and running toward victory. The wrestlers this year are: Max Salazar, Casey Salazar, Brady Kuhns, and Gavyn Smith. They are coached by Angelo Salazar and Charlie Kuhns. They are working hard and are excited to see what the upcoming season has in store for them. Good luck Indian wrestlers!
