Halloween is coming up on October 31. Many fun activities have been planned. For example, there will be costume contests during P.E. class. Also, the Oasis is hosting the Halloween Hoopla for kids in grades 6,7&8. Some classes are even having parties of their own. After school, many people will head into town for some trick-ortreating within the stores. Later in the evening, kids will trick-or treat at houses for some more Halloween fun. 2 2 Troubling News from China Reported by Patrick H. In China, children about our age have train tickets to get to another place. Some adults there talk to the kids and they say that if the kids win in a bet, they can get another ticket. Usually, the children lose their tickets. There are a lot of kidnappers there so they take the children far, far away. These kidnappers pretend that they are the people who nurse the homeless, but they have their own evil cruel plans. At first, they give the children great meals and worm baths. When the children feel comfortable, the evil plan begins. They force the children to start to lay bricks and build buildings. They are forced to stay there for 6 months until they are free to have a ticket and go back to the train to reach their destination. One lady knew about this far away place so she went there to find her child. Finally, she was allowed to get her child. She felt sorry for all of the children so she just said that they were all her children. The kidnappers there only let her take her own child. She spread the news to the other people in her city. 4 4 The Central School Play This year s Central School play is called Zombie Prom. I ve heard that it is about a guy whose girlfriend breaks up with him right before the prom. He gets so mad he drives his motorcycle into a vat of toxic waste and comes back as a zombie to win her heart back and take her to the prom. Tryouts were on a variety of days over the week and weekend. I heard that they learned a dance and part of a song to see if they would make callbacks. They were put in groups to sing, dance and act. The people who got callbacks went during the week and some people even got second callbacks! Everyone probably did great! Also this year, many sixth graders got some of the main leads! I think the play this year is going to be great! Speaking of Plays. Eco News Reported by Molly Weaver I know many of you probably don t listen to the green tip on the announcements, so here s what s gonna happen if you don t. Scientists say that we ll have no glaciers on the planet if this eco problem isn t solved. And did you know that over 60 million plastic water bottles in the U.S.A go into a landfill each day? You need to recycle all glass, plastic, and paper and look on the back of other items for recycling information. Also, about 23% percent of people still don t recycle, so if you know someone who doesn t recycle, GET THEM RECYCLING!!! In addition, about 2% of our waste is food, I know that seems small, but we want it to stay that way, so actually use the compost bins in the lunch room. Furthermore, have you seen a once lush field with trees and wild grass, turn into a pile of dirt filled with those machines ripping it apart and a sign that say that some condos are coming? Don t let them do that! Re-plant those things, plant a tree, make a garden, and that s definitely helping the environment. Well, I hope you start helping our environment. Have fun!

16 16 T H E Halloween Hoopla! This year, the sixth graders are able to attend the Halloween Hoopla! It s not on Halloween night, but it s a few days before. It gives the students a chance to dress up and have some fun even before Halloween! This year, the Halloween Hoopla will be held on October 24 th from 7:30 to9:00. Pizza and refreshments will be served to the students, and they will be asked to bring one non- perishable food item or a cash donation. The Halloween Hoopla sounds like a lot of fun and many people seem to be going! Hope to see you there!
