2 Elephant and Piggie Party: Tuesday, June 6 at 1 p.m. and Thursday, June 8 at 6 p.m. You re invited to a party! Come celebrate by meeting the one and only Elephant and Piggie duo, creating crafts, playing games, and reading funny stories! For ages 3-8. KIDS Korner Summer 2017 Little Summerkins: Friday, June 9 th at 9:30 a.m. This special program is open to children ages 0-3 accompanied with a caregiver. There will be a themed story time followed by a fun sensory playtime. Martial Arts Demonstration: Friday, June 9 th at 2 p.m. Learn about the martial arts with Impact Martial Arts in Canal Fulton! They will present an impressive demonstration of their abilities. For ages Kids Pokémon Club: Tuesday, June 13 th at 4 p.m. Do you love Pokémon? Come and join other Pokémon enthusiasts and bring your cards and your friends! For ages Cirque du Papier: Wednesday, June 14 th at 2:30 p.m. Michael Roy will create cool animals using large sheets of paper while exploring the history and mystery of origami. There will also be a hands-on origami workshop to teaching a simple and fun origami design. For ages LEGO Free Play Maze challenge: Thursday, June 15 th at 6 p.m. If you build it, they will come. Use your engineering abilities to make marvelous LEGO creations. This month we will create a LEGO marble maze. For ages Kids Craft Club Marbled Paper and Pop-Up Cards: Friday, June 16 th at 2 p.m. We will be creating beautiful marbleized paper with shaving cream and food coloring. We will also learn how to make simple flowery pop-up cards. For ages Eat Up!: No-Bake 101: Tuesday, June 20 th at 6 p.m. Want to bake without all the baking or cook without all the cooking? Join us and learn a variety of no-bake recipes! Ages Family Board Game Night: Wednesday, June 21 st at 6 p.m. Stop in, relax and enjoy playing some board games with the whole family. We have games for ages 3+. Building a Better World: Thursday, June 22 nd at 1 p.m. Tess the Tool Lady and Sherlock the Construction Dog bring magic, stories and laughs in this ALL NEW SHOW! Our show constructs a blueprint of inspiration for young readers. For ages Kids Cookbook Book Club: Thursday, June 22 nd at 6 p.m. Do you enjoy cooking? Looking for a new and exciting recipe? Choose a recipe from the book that we ve selected, make it (with help from an adult) and bring it in to share. Our cook book for June is Emeril Lagasse s There s a Chef In My Soup. For ages Copies of the book can be checked out at the children s desk. Egg Drop Challenge: Friday, June 23 rd at 2 p.m. Can an egg be dropped from 10 feet up without breaking? What about 20 feet? This is the challenge: build a contraption from the materials provided that, when dropped from a height, will stop an egg from cracking. For ages Summer Reading Book Club Frindle: Tuesday, June 27 th at 4 p.m. Nicholas Allen is not a troublemaker he's just creative. When he decides to liven things up in Mrs. Granger's fifth grade language arts class, he comes up with the greatest plan yet. He invents a new word for a pen frindle. It doesn't take long for frindle to take root and soon the excitement spreads beyond the school and town and unleashes a series of events that rapidly spins out of control. For ages Copies of Frindle by Andrew Clements can be checked out in the children s department. 2

3 KIDS Korner Summer 2017 Realm with the Reptile: Thursday, June 29 th at 10 a.m. Join reptile expert Marissa Dubina as she shows and discusses her menagerie of critters that crawl and slither. You might get a chance to interact with a large tortoise, lizards, and s-s-snakes! For ages LEGO Free Play Zip line challenge: Thursday, July 6 th at 6 p.m. If you build it, they will come. Use your engineering abilities to make marvelous LEGO creations. This month we will build a contraption that will hold a LEGO person and then send it down a zip line. For ages Little Summerkins: Friday, July 7 th at 9:30 a.m. This special program is open to children ages 0-3 accompanied with a caregiver. There will be a themed story time followed by a fun sensory playtime. Construction Challenge: Friday, July 7 th at 2 p.m. How tall of a tower can you build out of toothpicks and gumdrops? Do you think you have what it takes to construct a bridge out of masking tape and popsicle sticks? If so, then join us for this building challenge! For ages Kids Craft Club Perler Beads: Tuesday, July 11 at 4 p.m. Make something creative and unique to take home out of Perler beads. For ages Kids Pokémon Club: Wednesday, July 12 th at 2 p.m. Do you love Pokémon? Come and join other Pokémon enthusiasts and bring your cards and your friends! For ages On the Beach: Thursday, July 13 th at 10 a.m. Explore shells and the creatures that live in them. Learn the difference between sand and dirt! Presented by Mad Science of Northeast Ohio. For ages 3-5. Black and Blue Oceans: Thursday, July 13 th at 11 a.m. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to use scientific reasoning to develop and test plans to clean up the environment after an oil spill and to devise remedies for acid rain through experimentation. Presented by Mad Science of Northeast Ohio. For ages Preschool STEAM: Friday, July 14 th at 1 p.m. Children ages 3-5 accompanied by an adult can join us for hands on fun with science activities and more! Love to explore and experiment? This is the program for you! Summer Reading Book Club Magician s Elephant: Tuesday, July 18 th at 4 p.m. When a fortuneteller's tent appears in the market square, Peter knows the questions that he needs to ask: Does his sister still live? And if so, how can he find her? The fortuneteller's mysterious answer sets off a chain of events so remarkable that you will hardly dare to believe it s true. For ages Copies of Magician s Elephant by Kate DiCamillo can be checked out in the children s department. Family Board Game Night: Wednesday, July 19 th at 6 p.m. Stop in, relax and enjoy playing some board games with the whole family. We have games for ages 3+. 4 TEEN Summer Teen Summer Reading club Teen Summer Reading Club, for teens ages 12-18, is from June 1st-July 31st. Don t miss out on all the fun, programs, and prize opportunities! Details: Read and complete one time log sheet per teen. Turn in your sheet for five entry slips. Complete your bonus sheet and earn 10 more tickets. For every program you attend, you get two entry slips. All for a chance to win one of several themed prize gift baskets! Reading Log Sheets must be turned in by Monday, July 31st@ 3:45 p.m. Teen Akron ZooMobile visit Teens, ages 10 18, are invited to join us for a visit from the Akron Zoo! The Zoo will be bringing live animals and speaking about each animal that visits the library that day. They will be speaking about conserva on and you can build your own bird house. 5 TEEN Summer 2017 Teen Summer Reading 2017 Teen Got Seeds? Repurpose a Book Calling all Teens, ages 12 18, come and plant a vegetable plant to grow at your very home. Snacks will be provided June 4:00 us at Teens, ages 12 18, find an old book and get crea ve. Use the book to find a new way to make it useful. The top three projects are awarded prizes. The en res are on display the en re month of July. June all month us at Service Scavenger Hunt Teens, ages 12 18, Pay it forward and complete the Service Scavenger Hunt and get rewarded with a prize. Names will be drawn on July 28th. 7 Adult Summer 2017 Bookmark Contest Design your own bookmark based on the Summer Reading Program theme of: Build a Better World Bookmarks will be judged on originality and design, must be original artwork only; no copyright protected images or cartoon images will be accepted. One Entry per person There are 2 Categories: Children 8-12, Teens The Bookmark Contest runs from June 1 to July 31 Winners will be announced August 15 Winning Bookmarks will be printed out and distributed in September Summer Reading Program Candy Jar Drawings June 10 June 17 June 24 July 1 July 8 July 22 July 29 Find Me a Good Book Running out of authors to read? We can help with that. From our webpage, click on the books tab and select Need a Recommendation. This will take you to a form to fill out your likes and dislikes. We will then send you a list of suggested authors and titles. Not online? Stop by and pick up a paper copy. The Canal Fulton Public Library will be closed on Tuesday, July 4, 2016 for Independence Day. We will be closing at 5:00 P.M. on July 13h, July 14th and all day July 15th for Olde Canal Days, but we are always open online, so you can download e books, do research, or renew your materials. No library materials checked out from the Canal Fulton Public Library are due on any day that the library is closed. The CFPL Current is published monthly except June/July for the Summer Reading Newsletter, by the Canal Fulton Public Library.
