2 Music Department Update The NAHS Music Department was represented by 19 students who were accepted to the Southeastern Massachussetts Senior District Music Festival s Chorus, Band, and Orchestra. These student auditioned individually with students from over 50 local high schools to earn this opportunity, and performed in a concert at Bourne High School January 6. Nine of these students will now audition at the All-State level for a chance to perform at Boston Symphony Hall with the top musicians from around the Commonwealth NAHS Science Fair The NAHS Science Fair was held on January 25th in the NAHS Library. Over 80 students showcased their independent research projects, and many classes came through to check out the experiments! The students were divided into two categories: The physics students who completed a research project over terms 1 and 2 as part of a grade for their classes, and the students who are working entirely independently and are competing at the Regional Fair on March 3rd at Bristol Community College. In the past years, our students have always performed well at the Regional Fair, taking home large prizes and scoring highly. We have six students who will enter the Regional Fair this year.

Library Update While fighting off the winter doldrums, the students at NAHS are encouraged to read some exciting new books. Some went home with the students during vacations and some are finding homes in book bags during midterms to be pulled out if an exam is finished early. Hopefully all will be enjoyed. A variety of titles are available for perusal something for everyone. Remakes of classics: The Outsiders (50 year anniversary edition) and a new Alice in Wonderland are always favorites as well as some popular new books: Hidden Figures (the book the movie was based on), Rocket Girls, and Argo (also a basis for a movie), and books by popular authors Rick Riordan and James Patterson. We also have some appealing books about research topics: Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil Tyson Degrasse, The Gene, 50 Disasters, and 50 Discoveries among others. We also ordered a few books for fun Matt Phelan s Snow White, a graphic novel updating the fairy tale to roaring twenties New York, and Literary Wonderlands which takes readers on trips through literary places. 5 Unified Track and Field Team Junior Guidance Seminar begins with the start of quarter 3. We will be seeing juniors weekly in a computer lab to continue working toward their college and career plans using the Naviance platform. The focus will be on finding a good fit college or career-training program and beginning the process of applications, registering for standardized tests, and requesting teacher letters of recommendation. A busy college application season! *Students who participate in another spring sport are not eligible to participate- Unified Track is a Varsity Sport North Attleboro is a Unified Champion School We will have a Unified Track and Field Team- Spring 2018 As of the end of first semester, the guidance department has processed and submitted 1,947 college applications on behalf of the senior class. This marks the highest number of college applications in the past four years, and there are still many college deadlines left! Of these applications so far, our students have received acceptances by more than 100 schools. Way to go class of 2018! What are Unified Sports? Athletes with and without intellectual disabilities train alongside each other as teammates to promote inclusion, acceptance, and respect. Teams in the Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools Program will engage in competition that will highlight each athlete s strengths and abilities, making competition challenging and fun for each participant. 6 Debate Team Congratulations to Juniors, Sedona Shepard and Andrew Masek for their 1st Place Finish in the Public Forum Debate Division of the Brandeis University MSDL Tournament. Sedona and Andrew outscored 40 other teams to win the debate. This is only their second competition as a competitive debate team, which makes their win even more impressive. If you d like to learn more about the NAHS debate team or think you might be interested in joining, feel free to join team members each Tuesday at 2PM in RM 201. Winter Art Show Thank you to all who came out for the Winter Art Show and Coffee House! With your support, we raised $850, most of which will go towards a scholarship fund; the rest will be invested in fundraising opportunities (t-shirts and calendars) for the art department. PTO Update Thank you to everyone for your donations for the Grab N Go! The staff at NAHS greatly appreciated the spread made possible by your donations. It couldn t have been possible without you! Many thanks to all of the volunteers who assisted with setting up and clean up. We are so grateful for the teachers, staff and administration at NAHS, and today s Grab N Go was a fantastic way to show them how appreciated they are.

7 Indoor Track Congratulations to the Boys and Girls Indoor Track Teams who both won the Division 3 Relay meet on Sunday, January 14th. In a surprising twist, both teams won with a score of 49 points. Included in the day s outstanding performances were two all-time records. The boys long jump team of Matt Tarantino, Omar Jasseh, and Marion Bresko was one of four teams to finish first at the meet. They broke a three year old school record and their combined jump of 60'1" also tied the meet record set in On the girls side, the shuttle dash team of Leah Jette, Vanessa Ibrahim, Celine Ibrahim and Lily Wetherbee placed 1st overall with a time of Their time broke the previous North Attleboro High School record of set in Congratulations to all of the athletes and coaches for an amazing accomplishment!

Come in to the Chipotle at 228 Washington Street in Attleboro on Wednesday, February 7th between 4:00pm and 8:00pm. Bring in this flyer, show it on your smartphone or tell the cashier you re supporting the cause to make sure that 50% of the proceeds will be donated to North Attleboro Lady Hoopsters.
