3 CEO's Perspective SEASON 2018 of EDFL football concludes this weekend with five grand finals and presents the opportunity for more players to write their names into our history books. The clubs competing in the two senior grand finals provide perspective on the growth and breadth of the EDFL competition. The Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division Grand Final features two powerhouse EDFL clubs in Aberfeldie and Keilor who have shared the past three premierships between them, and with Aberfeldie competing for the sixth consecutive occasion. Conversely the Strathmore Community Bank Division 2 Grand Final will feature two of the newest clubs to EDFL football in Roxburgh Park and East Sunbury. As neither club has won an EDFL senior premiership, history will be made by 5pm Saturday. I am sure that this weekend will see the continuation of incredible senior finals played last weekend. In the Essendon Ford Division 1 Grand Final, Tullamarine was down by over seven goals at half time and then kicked nine goals to one in the third term, only for Airport West to reassert themselves and win by 13 points. Congratulations to coach Geoff Maddern and all at the Airport West Football Club. Then on Sunday, the Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division Preliminary Final saw Keilor trail by 44 points at three-quarter time, and then kick the only seven goals in the final quarter to overrun an incredibly unlucky Strathmore team by two points. The finals series to date has been a fantastic advertisement for EDFL football and we thank and congratulate the players, coaches and clubs involved. In Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division seniors, will Aberfeldie go back-to-back or will it be a repeat of the 2016 grand final where Keilor proved too strong? The two coaches, Mick McGuane (Keilor) and Adam Potter (Aberfeldie) are both renowned for their deep understanding and insight of the game and tactical brilliance on match days. Add to that star players on both teams and all is set for a memorable finale to the 2018 EDFL season. With one win each in the home-andaway matches, and an eight-point victory to Aberfeldie in the second semi-final, the result could go either way. The path to the Strathmore Community Bank Division 2 Grand Final has been very different for the competing teams. Roxburgh Park won the second semi final by 10 goals to comfortably progress to the grand final. East Sunbury had only one loss after the first nine rounds but with three rounds to play, they were facing the distinct possibility of missing finals altogether. However, the Thunder has hit strong form, winning its semi and preliminary finals by a combined 97 points to become #WindyHillBound. Congratulations to Roxburgh Park, who will also play in Division 2 Reserves Grand Final against Moonee Valley. Good luck to the Greenvale and Keilor reserves teams who will battle out the grand final on Sunday. Special mention to the Greenvale reserves, who have incredibly progressed to their eighth consecutive grand final. Also, best wishes to Maribyrnong Park and Aberfeldie who will no doubt provide a high-quality display of football in the AGA Apprenticeships Plus Under 19.5 Premier Division Grand Final. For the final time this year good luck for the weekend. 9 Keilor Snatches Victory Over Strathmore By TARA MURRAY (via Star Weekly) KEILOR pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division history on Sunday. At three-quarter time the Blues trailed Strathmore by 44 points with the Mores looking like they would join Aberfeldie in the decider. While many people thought the game was over, Keilor coach Mick McGuane hadn t given up hope. The Blues kicked the first couple of goals of the final quarter and it was game-on. The Blues kept coming and when Dean Galea converted truly in the 25th minute, the Blues were in front. They stayed there, winning to McGuane said it was one of the greatest comebacks in the history of the EDFL. It was an amazing fightback and showed the great spirit of the club, he said. A lot would have thought we were down and out, and rightly so. We know we can score at speed and if we got what we wanted and adhered to what was said at three-quarter time, we (knew we) could do it. McGuane said they weren t playing their best football in the first three quarters and thought they were a chance if they could lift it another level. He said the end they were kicking at in the final quarter, had been the scoring end all day. We had nine scoring shots at goal in the second quarter, he said. We didn t finish it off and were sometimes taking the wrong option. I ve seen us kick 10 goals in a quarter, I know how quickly we can kick goals. It went our way in the last quarter. McGuane was full of credit for the job that Strathmore did for the first three quarters. Unfortunately, there had to be a winner and loser, he said. Their back six were fantastic for three quarters. We changed the dynamic and made them defend. We hunted the ground ball. Galea kicked three goals, including two in the last quarter. McGuane said there were a lot of contributors across the board, but no one stood out. The Blues finished with just two players on the bench. McGuane said it was too early to say whether they would get up and he would see how everyone recovered. Damien Cavka was a late withdrawal and was one of a number of key players missing from the side. 9 9 THE FOOTBALLER The Essendon District Football League Record

11 Young Airport West Gun At Home On Big Stage By LUKE D ANELLO (via Leader Newspapers) BIOR Malual is unlikely to forget the significant role he played in one of the greatest Essendon Ford Division 1 deciders of recent memory in a hurry. The Airport West wingman collected the David McWilliam Medal for best afield after his team s victory over Tullamarine in a classic grand final on Saturday. Amid the jubilation, Malual was at a loss to explain how the Eagles found themselves trailing at three-quarter-time after leading by 53 points at the five-minute mark of the third term. The minor premier ultimately lifted when it mattered, kicking the only three goals of the final quarter to prevail by 13 points. I can t believe it, Malual said. We started well and that third quarter was ridiculous. We didn t know what to expect. We knew they were going to come out hard again, but during the game we couldn t really get angry. We just stayed composed and calm. The 22-year-old described his performance as pretty quiet to start off with and I got going through that second quarter. The hard-running Malual has been a model of consistency after returning to the club this year and earned nine mentions in the best players for the campaign He s a good tall boy, but there s not a lot of bulk on him, Airport West coach Geoff Maddern said. He just gets up in the air and pulls it out when he needs to. In the last quarter, I thought he was outstanding. Malual s ability to provide end-to-end running was on full display at Windy Hill and he is also dangerous around goal, kicking 19 from 18 games this season. I try and get back to help the backs and try to get forward to get on the scoreboard, he said. THE FOOTBALLER The Essendon District Football League Record

13 Grand Final Preview Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division By ADEM SARICAOGLU ABERFELDIE v KEILOR Sunday Windy Hill THIS is a Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division Grand Final that ticks every box. We have two powerhouses of the EDFL that boast some of the best players in local footy and two senior coaches that have already won this game twice in their decorated tenures. Adam Potter has taken Aberfeldie to the grand final in each of his four years at Clifton Park, while Mick McGuane is the most revered coach in the game at this level. Someone s legacy will be enhanced greatly on Sunday. If Potter steers Aberfeldie to victory, then he becomes the club s first back-to-back premiership coach and takes his overall tally to three grand final wins from four attempts. As the lead man of this current Aberfeldie dynasty, Potter s name goes into the EDFL history books forever with a win here. Eleven years into his Keilor stint, some may argue McGuane s already done enough to cement his legacy during his decade-long tenure with the Blues, but triple premiership coach sounds far better than dual premiership coach. A third flag for either coach will set them apart from the likes of Brodie Holland, who coached Maribyrnong Park to back-to-back flags in and Anthony Rock, who did the same thing with Greenvale in Either Potter or McGuane will this weekend go to the top of the tree as the best EDFL coach of the modern era and given how this game is poised, the coaching battle here is just as important as any of the match-ups we ll see on the field. Keilor s clinical 29-point win over Aberfeldie in the 2016 grand final was largely credited to the genius of McGuane. That day, he successfully took Aberfeldie s abundance of playmakers out of the game and restricted the then reigning premier to just its second-lowest score of the entire 2016 season. Two weeks ago, Aberfeldie returned that favour by restricting this year s minor premier to its lowest total score for the year a measly at a wet Windy Hill. Ryan Allan s job on Dean Galea was incredible, while the likes of Josh Cubillo, Luke Blackwell, Luke Davis and Nic Cattapan were all huge in a tight semi final tussle. Throw in Josh Toy s efficiency as a rebounding defender, Zach Hislop s cleanness across half forward and Jayden Foster s finishing power inside forward 50 and it s easy to see why Aberfeldie is the dominant force that it is entering its sixth successive grand final. While there were times in the middle of the season when it seemed the demise was coming, Aberfeldie s ability to recompose itself late in the year and take advantage of its opportunities has been remarkable to watch. For mine, your form from the start of August onward is the best indicator of where you re at if you re lucky enough to be playing in a grand final and if that form holds true here, then Aberfeldie is the team to beat. The Gorillas won their last five home-and-away games by an average of just over nine goals and played the better wet weather footy against a Keilor side that handles the wet as well as anyone a fortnight ago. So Aberfeldie is a deserving favourite. But if you ever write Keilor off then it s at your own peril, and Strathmore painfully found that out the hard way. Last week s prelim was an instant classic, with Keilor storming back from 44 points down at three-quarter time to defeat the Mores by just two points. It seemed fitting that Galea was the one to put the Blues in front, with a clutch set shot deep into time-on giving Keilor the lead. He kicked two of Keilor s seven unanswered goals in the final term. The question is whether Allan can restrict the division s best full forward one last time here. But Galea isn t Keilor s only big-game performer. Andrew Browne was the Reg Rose Medallist in 2016 and will be looking to have a big day against Courtney Johns. Browne was also one of the best players on the ground in the second semi. Then you have the likes of Ryan Hards and Josh Martin, who both finished the game strongly last week. And if Damien Cavka can get back into the side, then he ll be another massive weapon in the Keilor arsenal. This premiership is going to change legacies forever and its fitting that it s come down to Aberfeldie and Keilor. If you re lucky enough to be at Windy Hill and taking this in live, then just sit back and enjoy the show. This will be local footy at its finest. 20 Kaine Hocking's Grand Final Five Aberfeldie ABERFELDIE is looking to go back-to-back for the first time in its history in Sunday s Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division Grand Final. EDFL Match of the Day radio analyst Kaine Hocking has revealed the top five players to watch in two shades of blue for the decider. #29 - RYAN ALLAN Ryan Allan is Aberfeldie s first go-to option for Keilor goalkicking machine, Dean Galea. His shutdown job on the division s leading goalkicker two weeks ago went a long way toward helping Aberfeldie book its place in the big dance. Allan s ability to half one-on-one contests is what makes him so hard to beat inside 50 and such is his value, his dual with Galea could be the deciding factor in who goes home premiers on Sunday. With some assistance from his fellow team mates that form Aberfeldie s vaunted back six, Allan s job is to simply nullify Galea s influence on the game. #1 - JOSH TOY Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division s number one rebound defender provides so much run-and-carry off half back for the Gorillas. Toy s ability to peel off and impact other contests is a feature of his game, so Keilor will need to look to hit up his direct opponent and make him accountable from start to finish. What also sets Toy apart is his ability to consistently find dangerous spaces on the 45 ball inside the corridor and he can pump the ball well inside 50 to one-on-ones as well. He has many strings to his bow. #20 - COURTNEY JOHNS Courtney Johns ruck dual with Keilor s Andrew Browne will prove to be a pivotal one in this grand final. Johns will look to get forward at every chance to hurt Browne the other way and test him defensively, and he ll also be looking to form a competitive partnership with Joel Madden and Jayden Foster against Browne and Brock McGregor. Overall its important Johns plays his role well, because Aberfeldie s ruck division will be looking to not only provide a contest around the ground, but also hurt Keilor on the scoreboard. #5 - LUKE BLACKWELL (pictured right) This hardworking mid and experienced big-game player will just keep turning up at contest after contest on Sunday. Luke Blackwell provides Aberfeldie with inside and outside polish, as well as good disposal by foot backwards of stoppage. He s a midfield general and will look to spark his teammates in the middle and generate forward bursts all day long. Expect Mick McGuane to deploy a one-on-one role here against Blackwell, as Keilor will not want Blackwell roaming Windy Hill on his own. #26 - JOSH POUND Josh Pound s 2018 season output of 40 goals is the most by any small forward in Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division, and I wouldn t be surprised if he ends up in the Team of the Year, as voted on by each senior coach in the division. If Pound can recover from hamstring trouble, then a possible match-up for him is Keilor s Billy Iles. He ll be doing his all to be in the 22 this weekend at Windy Hill. His ability to hit the right spots and crumb off the big boys is a treat to watch and he will be looking for a good bag of goals come Sunday to help his side win its third premiership cup in four years. Kaine Hocking will be part of the live coverage of Aberfeldie v Keilor from 2pm 5:30pm on 98.9 North West FM & Mixlr.com/edflfooty. 20 THE FOOTBALLER The Essendon District Football League Record

22 Kaine Hocking's Grand Final Five Keilor KEILOR S been hampered by injury of late but the Blues still boast a large number of highly talented players that will be crucial in Sunday s Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division Grand Final. EDFL Match of the Day radio analyst Kaine Hocking gives us his five most important Blues for the decider against Aberfeldie. #5 - DEAN GALEA (pictured right) This ex-vfl star who s become the premier forward of the EDFL is going to prove more than just a headache for Adam Potter and his back six. Dean Galea has kicked 83 goals for the year and kicked five or more in a single game on eight occasions from his 20 appearances in His one-on-one dual with Aberfeldie s Ryan Allan will be one for the ages. Potter and his full back got the better of Galea two weeks ago at a soaked Windy Hill. So a key here is the help Galea will get from his fellow forwards and in particular, how Mick McGuane decides to deal with Josh Toy. Keilor will need to keep Toy accountable and not allow him to roll off as the third man on Galea. When he s in command of his forward 50, Galea s nearly unstoppable. #22 - DAMIEN CAVKA This former West Coast Eagle is now back at his junior club and is a premier running machine. When the other mids can t go any more, Cavka finds another level and puts the after burners on. He provides great shape on the wing and works well in McGuane s overall game plan. McGuane will be looking to his young midfielder for some grunt in the middle, with his size and power exploding through stoppages being a major weapon at Keilor s disposal. #8 - ANDREW BROWNE After missing a large chunk of the season, Andrew Browne was back to his best in last week s preliminary final, which I m sure was much to his coach s delight. Rotated heavily two weeks ago, Browne spent longer periods of last week s game in the ruck and plugged holes backwards of centre when needed. Potter will be expecting Browne to be his usual self again in this one, so Aberfeldie s ball movement will need to be at its best to avoid turning it over to Browne. Browne will need to make sure he is giving his onballers first use at stoppage in order to provide Keilor s forwards enough balls inside forward 50. #4 - KANE BARBUTO Keilor s homegrown captain is a contested ball beast and will play a massive role in Sunday s midfield battle. Coming off with a shoulder complaint on Sunday, nothing will stop this skipper leading his side out for the big dance. Barbuto s remarkable ability to rescue his side in all areas of the ground shows why Mick has him as his number one man. He will provide a vital cog in feeding Cavka and the like on the outside in order to get the ball into Galea with quick, precise ball movement. #32 - DAVID GOURDIS Returning from suspension last week, this big man down back will look to hold things up in an injury-hit back line. Gourdis provides Keilor with experience in the big situations and will be a steady figure around the likes of young teammate, Brad Xavier. His match-up is likely to be Jayden Foster, which could prove Gourdis to be a match winner for Keilor if he can keep Foster quiet. The Blues will also look to get the ball in his hands exiting defensive 50 as well, with his long kicking being able to get over the Abers press and into space for Keilor s runners. Kaine Hocking will be part of the live coverage of Aberfeldie v Keilor from 2pm 5:30pm on 98.9 North West FM & Mixlr.com/edflfooty. 22 THE FOOTBALLER The Essendon District Football League Record

After a 46-point margin in Airport West s favour at half time, Tullamarine turned the game on its head when it sparked the most unbelievable comeback we ve seen this year. Anthony Prestia booted three of his team s nine thirdquarter goals, one of which gave the Demons the lead for the first time during the game. But the Eagles held their composure in the last term, finishing off their blistering start with the most fulfilling end. Airport West got off to a quick start to the game with Ned Gentile and Jesse McVeigh booting two firstquarter majors. Jack Kennedy and Chris Pereira-Oliva scored goals for the Demons but quick majors from Matthew Bullock and Brendan Godden late gave the Eagles an early 22-point lead at the first break. Lachlan Di Sebastiano and Koolyn Briggs were promising early for Airport West in the fast-tempo game. The tempo continued in the second quarter with the Eagles continuing to play run-and-carry football. This gave the opportunity for Godden and McVeigh to continue their good days inside 50, with Godden kicking his second and McVeigh kicking his third for the game. Evan Penaluna, Joel Brown, Luke Ryan and Ned Gentile piled on the goals afterwards to give the Eagles a 46-point lead at half time - a margin which was reduced by Will Becker, courtesy of a kick after the siren. In the third quarter, Tullamarine beat Airport West at its own game with fast-paced football and scintillating running inside 50. Steven Rizzo kicked off proceedings in the third term with a brilliant set shot from just inside 50. But after this, it was Tullamarine who took full control, beating the Eagles at their own game in the third term. It all started off the boot of Jack Kennedy, who ran into an open goal from close range after reading the ball off the back of the pack. He kicked one later in the term, taking his tally to three goals for the day. Russell Laurie then continued the comeback for the Demons with a huge goal from outside 50 in his last game of football in Tullamarine colours. A deafening roar then took over Windy Hill when Kane Mulvaney snapped an absolute beauty from the boundary line in a remarkable goal that well and truly got the Demons back into the game. Star forward, Anthony Prestia then got into the game with two consecutive goals to bring the Demons to within 13 points of the Eagles. After a Jack Burns goal, the Demons found themselves level with the Eagles, and were on the brink of taking the lead for the first time in the game. Then just when you thought the siren was going to go, Prestia again bobbed up inside 50 for his third major, giving Tullamarine its first lead for the game at a very good time, leading at three-quarter time. Godden got the much-needed breakthrough for the Eagles in the fourth term, kicking their first goal since the five-minute mark of the third. Dean Simmons had a chance to respond for Tullamarine but then missed a crucial set shot at goal, hitting the post from just outside the goal square. Malual made him pay at the other end, kicking the sealer for Airport West to take his side back up to Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division. AIRPORT WEST Goal Kickers: N. Gentile 3, B. 33 Grand Final Preview Strathmore Community Bank Division 2 By JULIA MONTESANO ROXBURGH PARK v EAST SUNBURY Saturday Windy Hill HISTORY will be made at Windy Hill when either Roxburgh Park or East Sunbury lifts up the premiership cup for the first time. The Magpies finished the season on 12 wins and six losses and have won their last six games coming into the grand final. The Thunder was a big chance to claim the minor premiership at the start of the season, but a coaching change mid-season saw them slip to fourth with 11 wins and seven losses. But this clearly doesn t bother the Thunder as they were responsible for knocking out serious contenders, Moonee Valley, two weeks ago, before giving the Northern Saints a massive wake-up call in a thumping win last week. It s hard to argue which team is in better form, as East Sunbury is also on a nice run of wins with four in a row in the lead-up to this. This game is set to be an attacking one, with both teams liking to run-and-carry the ball quickly through the corridor to set up plenty of goals. This is thanks to some key midfield delivery from both sides. Roxburgh Park skipper, Harley Short, has been in scintillating form this season and has been a real leader through the midfield. The same can be said for the Thunder s Brad Bernacki, who has been able to break away from opponents with ease thanks to his pace and foot skills. The battle between these two could be telling, but the forwards at either end could be in for a big day, too. Roxy s Luke Capuano has been dominant inside 50 this season and has kicked 66 goals from 18 games, finishing second in the goalkicking behind Burnside Heights Josh Covelli. The Thunder has to lock him down on Saturday because otherwise, he ll run a mock. Capuano has kicked a combined nine goals in his three games against East Sunbury and could be in for another big performance if he is able to roam free in the forward line. He ll have to contend with Kamen Ogilvie at the other end, who is in red-hot form for the Thunder, coming off a four-goal performance against the Northern Saints. He kicked 22 goals from 20 games this season and could be set for another big day. Last time these two sides met, just one point split the two at the final siren, with Roxburgh Park getting the win in Round 18. The Thunder got the win in their first match-up this season while the Magpies rebounded in the second and third clashes. Roxy s Harley Short and Ferras Merhi were named in the bests in two of the three matches against the Thunder while for East Sunbury, Kamen Ogilvie was the one who was named in the bests twice. With stars aplenty and some thumping wins as of late, both sides will be going into this match with the belief that they can continue their good form on their biggest stage yet. Expect a thrilling encounter between two sides who will be hungry to finally taste premiership glory in the EDFL. THE FOOTBALLER The Essendon District Football League Record

38 Kaine Hocking's Grand Final Five Roxburgh Park ROXBURGH Park is playing in its third Strathmore Community Bank Division 2 Grand Final in five years and is desperately hoping it can finally go all the way. EDFL Match of the Day radio analyst Kaine Hocking has revealed five of the most important Magpies that will be running around Windy Hill against East Sunbury on Saturday. #19 - LUKE CAPUANO This home-grown Magpie is back and he s hungry to get his club the success it has longed for. Luke Capuano has kicked 66 goals for the year, 13 of which have come from his last two outings. He s a young, mobile forward and he has Roxburgh Park s forward line on his shoulders and ready for the big time. But will he be feeling the pressure from two years ago? Right here at Windy Hill in a grand final against East Keilor, inaccurate kicking stopped the Magpies from claiming their maiden senior flag and Capuano is definitely one Magpie desperately seeking redemption. Diquan Williams will be his most likely direct opponent. #7 - HARLEY SHORT (pictured right) Arguably the best midfielder in Strathmore Community Bank Division 2, Roxburgh Park s captain will play a massive part in his team s pursuit of its first senior flag. The Thunder will need to lock down on Short, as his two-way running and speed out the contest will become too much of a handful if he s let off the leash. Short has the ability to play inside and out and gives the Magpies plenty of run-and-carry, as well as great leadership. #16 - JACK ELLIOTT Jack Elliott s a tall utility that provides plenty of options for coach Michael Farrelly and can fit into Roxburgh Park s structure in several ways. For his height, Elliott has plenty of speed and is very good at ground level as well. A head-to-head battle with the fellow ex-calder Cannon Brad Bernacki would be a treat for the Windy Hill crowd to see. Look for Elliott to push forward and test the Thunder back line for height inside 50, as he s been able to kick 15 goals for the year. #22 - FERRAS MERHI This EDFL veteran is looking to claim his third premiership and second in three years. The 2015 Hadfield premiership player is the potential Strathmore Community Bank Division 2 Team of the Year ruckman and will provide a lot of headaches for Glenn Hopkins this Saturday, as his ability to get around the ground, for his size, will provide a great go-to target for the Magpies. But Merhi is even more dangerous when resting forward and is a reliable kick on goal, having kicked 10 goals for the year. #6 - MICHAEL FARRELLY This first-year coach has been a great find for the Magpies, not just on the coaching front, but also on-field, slotting in beautifully at half back. Michael Farrelly s ability to set his side up behind the ball and structure up to retain the footy with repeat entries will mean the Thunder will again have to be brave and precise with their ball movement. Can the first-year coach become the first senior premiership coach at Lakeside Drive and write his name into Roxburgh Park folklore forever? Kaine Hocking will be part of the live coverage of Roxburgh Park v East Sunbury from 2pm 5:30pm on 98.9 North West FM & Mixlr.com/ edflfooty. 38 THE FOOTBALLER The Essendon District Football League Record

40 Kaine Hocking's Grand Final Five East Sunbury EAST Sunbury will, for the first time in its history, run out onto Windy Hill to play in a grand final this Saturday. EDFL Match of the Day radio analyst Kaine Hocking tells us who he believes are the Thunder s most important players going to the big one against Roxburgh Park. #11 - BRAD BERNACKI Ex-Calder Cannons captain, Brad Bernacki, has found himself back at his junior club, and all he s done is cause headaches for all opposing sides in Strathmore Community Bank Division 2. He provides several options for Glenn Hopkins and his coaching panel, as this young gun is able to play in any area on the ground. In just 14 games Bernacki was named in East Sunbury s bests on six occasions, having also spent time with Coburg at VFL level. His gut running is a pleasure to watch at this level and provides so much grunt on the inside of the contest. His battle against Magpies mids Michael Farrelly, Harley Short and Jack Elliott will provide for some great viewing come Saturday. #18 - JAMERSON CAMPBELL Having not played since August 4, the Thunder will be doing everything they can to get their leading goalkicker up for this massive game. With 28 goals for the year, this lead-up centre-half forward can prove a handful for defenders with his ability to be able to repeat lead and create space behind him. The Thunder will be looking for him to drag the Magpies defence away from goal, not letting them sag off and create a third man up as they do so well. Hopkins would want to make sure his centre-half forward is 100 per cent going into this game, as we have all seen how things end when carrying wounded players into big games. #3 - KAMEN OGILVIE (pictured right) Kamen Ogilvie provides so much run-and-carry for the Thunder from half back and when roaming around the midfield. Roxburgh Park coach Michael Farrelly would want to pay close attention to this high-possession getter who rarely wastes a disposal. Leave Ogilvie to roam free at your own risk, as the Thunder ball magnet will just bring his own Sherrin to Windy Hill if allowed to do so. If you can somehow shut Ogilvie down, then you are on the way to stopping this power-running team. #1 - LUCAS SHAW East Sunbury s captain could well be the matchwinner on grand final day. As a wingman, Lucas Shaw s ability to get to the right spots when he pushes forward could be the main link in the premiership chain. Roxburgh Park will need to find a defensive wingman to play on Shaw because if he s allowed to run forward, then he ll become a major forward 50 target for the Thunder. His foot skills around the ground provides the Thunder with the space for their running game to flourish, which should suit the dimensions of Windy Hill. #5 - TOM CREE Another young star midfielder for the Thunder Tom Cree is a clearance king. He provides so much grunt inside the contest and hits the stoppage at pace, which means he s a dangerous man to mark around the packs. Field kicking and kicking at goal is also a feature of Cree s game. Cree managed to escape Tuesday s tribunal hearing for a striking charge with a reprimand and in such a big game here, he must be on his best behavior, as we ve seen poor discipline cost teams flags in recent years. Kaine Hocking will be part of the live coverage of Roxburgh Park v East Sunbury from 2pm 5:30pm on 98.9 North West FM & Mixlr.com/ edflfooty. 40 THE FOOTBALLER The Essendon District Football League Record
