Fishing Those of you who know Deon van der Westhuizen would be aware of his enthusiasm for fishing.

Social Nights The social night held at RPYC Fremantle on Tuesday 7 th was a real hoot, with Craig White & Ivan Erceg really hitting their straps celebrating success at Quepos Costa Rica. Both gave informative commentary on how they fish over there and video footage of hooking up and tagging showed exceptional speed and teamwork from the skipper and deckie. Also on the night Zeyad El-Brollosy was presented with his State and Australian record certificates for the mahi mahi he weighed at the Shimano WA Open in March. Aaron Smiddy Smith of Smoke Shake fame is becoming a welcome feature at our social nights. 2 legendary smoked fish including mahi, sailfish, striped marlin, wahoo and yellowfin tuna. He really has it nailed. Don t forget there is a Bradley Smoker up for grabs for the next marlin tagged in the City Beach Builders Club Championship. The next Social Night is to be held at the clubrooms on Tuesday June 11 th. Peter De Iseo from FLIR wil be demonstrating their latest night vision technology. It promises to be a very informative evening. See the flyer on page 5. Abrolhos Sharks We ve all heard, and many have witnessed, the huge tiger sharks that inhabit the shallow waters inside the Pelsaert Group at the Abrolhos archipelago. Members Ross Ezekiel and Bob Burdinat have been visiting the Abrolhos to fish and dive for many years. Their most recent trip up there (Bob s 23 rd ) was in March. Very experienced divers, they typically spend much of their time based at Middle Island venturing to the outside of Half Moon Reef to dive for dhufish. This year however, they didn t even get in the water, with overcast conditions and plenty of sharks spotted on the surface the conditions were way too spooky and on a run south inside the Pelsaert Group to the guano jetty where they anchored, 7 sharks up to 2.5 m long took up residence under the boat as soon as they were anchored. This scenario has been related by many crews who visited the area over the March to May period. Below are photos taken by Bob s brother Denis during their stay. FADs This weekend will be the last opportunity to fish the FADs. Planned recovery date is next Wednesday 22 nd May for recovery. Volunteers are welcome on the recovery trip and are required for moving the FADs from RPYC the following weekend. Volunteers should contact the club on contact@pgfc.com.au or Peter Coote on Received this morning from Mark Maher: Yesterday whilst bottom fishing we came upon a FAD which was anchored. Unfortunately we did not take co-ordinances, however it was in 43 meters of water approximately 5 miles north of Rotto, approx 1 mile east of west end.
