I wish to thank all the members for making myself and wife feel welcome for my second season at the Village. We have had some amazing feats including two hole-in-ones in the same round by Bernie Finch, as well as Betsi Lynch making yet another hole-in-one (go figure). Unfortunately, I did not get to play golf with many of you this year due to my back injury. Everyone has a great time when they come out to our club. We are also blessed with a professional and very talented management team: Bruce Rickert, Bob Doria, Gary Miller, Dan Kunze, Cheryl D Intino, Mary Jewett, and Marta DeGisi. They lead a team of over 100 associates/ employees whose sole mission is to focus on membership satisfaction and experience. New membership recruitment will continue to be our focus for the coming the season. In order for the club to have exciting activities for golf tournaments, social, dinning, tennis, and swim, new members are needed to replace those who leave the club for various personal reasons. Men 14 years and over must wear a shirt with sleeves and a collar. T-shirts, of any kind, are never allowed in the dining rooms. Mock collars are acceptable. Women may wear shirts without sleeves but must adhere to all other dress policies. Baseball caps are not permitted during dinner hours. Golf, tennis shorts, and club appropriate jeans are acceptable. Jeans that are torn, frayed, ripped, or tattered are never permitted in the Clubhouse. Jeans are never allowed in the Crystal Room or at the Golf Course and Practice Facilities for Holiday Dinners. Shoes must be worn at all times. It is the responsibility of our members to inform their guests and family members of our Dress Code. The Club staff is charged with the responsibility of enforcing these Regulations and any member or guest that does not abide by the dress code will be denied access to dine at the Club. 10 SOCIALLY SPEAKING Dan Kunze, Food & Beverage Manager Fall has arrived and with it comes the cool air, leaves, and more leaves. No worries, we have plenty of soups, chili, hot chocolate, and your favorite Fall cocktails to keep you warm. We will be serving breakfast Saturday and Sunday, lunch Tuesday through Sunday, and dinners on Friday and Sunday until the end of December. There is still time to book any last minute holiday parties. Also, keep in mind that the restaurant is a great place to bring small groups for lunch for the holiday season. Just give us a call and let us know you are coming. Thanksgiving is right around the corner, so don t forget to make your reservations for dinner in or take out. Breakfast with Santa will be held on Sunday December 9 and16. Spots fill up quickly, so don t wait to make your reservation. Lastly, don t forget New Year s Eve. Join us for dinner and still be home in time to watch the ball drop. Reminders RESERVATION POLICY It is the responsibility of members to cancel any dinner or event reservations they have made. It is unfair when members are turned away for events that are sold out when we have no-shows. If you do not cancel a reservation for a member event and are a no-show, you will be subject to a cancellation fee. MEMBERS WITH SMALL CHILDREN It is the parents responsibility to keep an eye on their children when attending club events: children should not be running around the club (as they could be injured) and should not be in the locker rooms unattended. 11 The Culinary Corner Gary Miller, Executive Chef Holiday Recipes Acorn Squash stuffed with Sweet Rice, Raisins, and Vegetables Ingredients 4 small acorn squash, halved lengthwise and seeded 3 Tbsp canola oil garlic powder sea salt and ground black pepper 3 cups water 2 cups uncooked short-grain brown rice, rinsed well 1 large onion, finely chopped 6 stalks celery, chopped 3 carrots, peeled and chopped 8 oz of white mushrooms, sliced 2 Tbsp soy sauce 1 cup raisins ¾ cup chopped fresh basil 1 cup shelled pumpkin seeds, toasted and crumbled Directions Preheat oven to 400º F. Acorn squash can be very firm and difficult to halve. To make it easier to slice, microwave them for about a minute and it makes it so much easier.. Brush the insides of squash with oil and sprinkle with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Arrange the half squashes, hollow side up, on a large heavy baking sheet. Roast for forty-five minutes or until tender. Keep warm. Meanwhile, cook 2 cups of rice according to instructions. While rice is cooking, heat two tablespoons of oil in a large heavy skillet over medium heat. Add the mushrooms, onion, celery, and carrots. Sauté for twelve minutes or until vegetables are tender. Stir in tamari, then currants and basil. Stir in cooked rice and season with salt and pepper. Divide the rice mixture among the hot roasted squash.
