We welcomed the son of our longest member into the club in January. John Roberts joined us and I am sure he will be a very good addition to our club. Remember there are several activities in this club that you can get involved in. Of course our largest is the Golf group which plays every Wednesday (weather permitting), the bowling group which bowls at 4 th Street bowling alley on Monday mornings, the Bocce group that plays every Monday morning at 10 am at Campo de Bocce in Los Gatos, the poker group which plays once a month rotating from one player s home to another usually the 4 th Thursday, and then there is our Date Night. Every other month (the even numbered months) on the Thursday following our luncheon Don Rosenbaum arranges for us to take our ladies out to dinner as a group to a different restaurant each time. This month he has us going to the Blue Door in Westgate. Be sure to sign up at the February meeting and check this newsletter for details on the time and address. It is important that we keep bringing in new members as the club is made up of men who are getting advanced in age and the normal course of time will diminish our numbers if we are not diligent in growing the ranks. Remember what our past Big SIR said Now that you are a SIR, you have many more friends. Come to the luncheons meet a new friend, and get involved. Volunteer for one of the many jobs that need to be done during the year. The position of program chair has opened up with the resignation of Jerry Oliver. We have already scheduled through May so it would not be a big job to fill the remaining five months we will need a speaker. Please consider volunteering for this important position. 2 BOWLING NEWS MONTHLY FINANCIAL REPORT Paul Schwabe, Treasurer JAN 2017 We finished week 20 of 33 and are midway through the third quarter. Our teams are clustered together, unfortunately toward the bottom of the standings: Bob Lopes (Us4) in 8 th place; Rich Madayag and Tomix Alvaro (Team 8) tied for 9 th place with the Turkey Vultures - Frank Gire, Don Williams & Chuck Waggoner. Bob Lopes turned the Turkey Vultures into road kill by bowling a nice 622 series when they faced off. Rich Madayag on Team 8 bowled a 568 series including a 221 game. 4 NEW MEMBER WELCOMED THANK YOU TO JANUARY SPEAKER John Roberts, right, a retired financial planner, was officially welcomed into SIR Branch 125 at the January Luncheon. He was sponsored by Chuck Roberts, left, his father and a long-time member of SIRs. SIR Branch 125 member Ed Hirshfield, left, was the featured speaker at the January Luncheon. His presentation was on A System To Alleviate Congestion On Our Highways. 50 th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY COUPLES Five Branch 125 members who have achieved the 50 years of marriage milestone were honored at the January Luncheon: Bernie (Vania) Seefeldt, Gary (Georgia) Shrader, Duane (Linda) Oberquell, Lloyd (Cindy) Walker and John (Phyllis) Feemster.
