2 Meet the Chef Harvey Miller Born native of Wichita Falls, TX, Chef H.L. Miller has accumulated over 15 years of culinary experience. He is a graduating student of the Art Institute of Dallas and Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX. He holds a degree in Applied Science in Culinary Arts and a degree in Business Management, as well as a Teacher s Certification in the States of Texas and Georgia. Between 2002 and 2005, Chef Miller began his career as Banquet Chef here at Wichita Falls Country Club. He had his hands in training, concepts of banquets and catering, and learning budgeting and accounting, all with the help of Senior Chef, Christian Freeman. His later career consisted of Personal and Executive Chef at the famous Blueberry Plantation Inn & Country Club in Alma, Georgia. There is where he developed the bulk of his craft in culinary arts and his love of Southern Cuisine with a Mediterranean twist. Chef Miller specializes in French Cooking, but has learned over the years to adapt to the surrounding region and embrace a multitude of cultures in his cuisine. Since August 2002, he has occupied the position of Executive or Sous Chef throughout his career. Chef Miller s favorite thing about cooking is making people smile. We are very excited to have him leading our kitchen and encourage the membership to come out and try his cuisine today. December 2nd, the Tennis Shop will be hosting a citywide indoor DOUBLES tournament for juniors of all skill levels! Sign-up comes down November 30th! If you need help finding a partner, let us know and we can try to help you find one. We will also have an Ugly Christmas Sweater social Dec. 15th for adults 7:00-10:00pm. Sign up by Dec. 14th! December 20th will be will be a junior SINGLES indoor tournament for all levels! This is the first of our two events that will be participating in Toys for Tots! Sign up will come down Dec. 18th! This is also a citywide tournament. Remember, if you bring a toy you will get a discounted entry fee! Last, but not least, December 29th is our second event benefitting Toys for Tots! The Tennis Shop will be hosting a parent/child indoor tournament! If you bring a toy, you will have a discounted tournament entry price. These parent/child tournaments are always a ton of fun, so be sure to sign up by Dec. 27th. Small Field/Small Scores Make For an Exciting Club Championship! The 2017 edition of the WFCC Club Championship and Senior Club Championship, although small, produced exciting and highly skillful golf as well as worthy champions in all flights. In the Championship Flight, Tony Ford started hot with a tournament low 75 in the first round. Trip Long and Steve Burross were close behind heading into the final round. After bookend birdies on the front nine of round two, Tony seemingly had the tournament wrapped up, then a disaster on #10 let Trip and Steve back in the mix. But then just as quickly as he lost his lead, Tony birdied 12 and 13 to take control once again and bring home the title. Steve played a great back nine in the final round to take second place from Trip Long. Charlie Gibson played very consistently to win the Net Championship by 8 shots over second place Ricky Chavez, and Gary Grimes won the Senior Championship while Mike Koen took home the Senior Net Championship. Please extend your congratulations to these players for a tournament well played! We look forward to even a better Championship next year! Jared Hotchkiss HEAD GROUNDSKEEPER This is my favorite time of year! It is the perfect time to correct some things on the course for the upcoming golfing season. Please be patient with the mess as we re-shape and define some bunker edges, and, as we repair some cart paths, as well. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and enjoyed some time off with family and friends! I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and happy New Year from the Grounds Department. Our WGA recently hosted dinner and drinks in the Cork Room then we all hit the golf course for our first ever Halloween Glow Ball Putting Competition. Thanks to our new Head Pro, Mark Greer, along with Bobby Stone and the WFCC Pro Shop staff AND our fearless WGA leader, Cheryl Prothro, for making this a really Spooky-fun event! Putting lights out definitely takes on new meaning! Look for pics in next month s WFCC publication of the annual WGA Ladies Christmas party a culinary, festive holiday gathering at one of our Board member s home. If you are a lady golfer at WFCC but not currently a member of the WGA, you re missing out on some great activities with a diverse group of ladies who love to play golf and PARTY!
