1 Officials e-news Volume 3 Issue 2 March IGA State Championships Excitement abounds in Centres around the State as the 2012 IGA State Championships are almost here. While the Summer Centre s season draws to a close, Winter Centres are getting ready to sign on. A huge thank you goes to all Officials who give their time not only at our Association days, but every week at our Centres. Appointments for 2012 IGA State Championships are attached. Once again we ask that if you are available and have not been included on the appointment list or if you are included and now find you cannot attend please let Karen Lunt know urgently. The Officials Committee would especially like to encourage newly qualified Officials to be involved. If you are intending to complete C grade Practical at the IGA State Championships please ensure you let Karen Lunt know so the assessment procedures can be put in place. To help move along the process and timing of medal presentations a new system will be in place for this IGA State Championships. At the conclusion of the field events, athletes placing 1 st 2 nd and 3 rd will be held at the event until the results are checked by the Chief and Referee. They will then proceed straight to medal presentation with the medal presentation slip. Referees will take the field event results sheets to recording as soon as possible where these must be signed in with the time recorded. Quest Junior Carnival Senior Pentathlon Thank you to all our hard working Officials who put our junior athletes and our senior pentathletes through their paces on Sunday 4 th March. It was fantastic to see some new faces stepping forward to take on roles. The day saw over 570 athletes participating. Congratulations to Shirley Wright (Sunnybank), Geoff Melville (Algester), Matt Symonds (Helensvale) and Liz Webb (Runaway Bay) who won our Officials draws on the day. 2 Page 2 Furthering Accreditation and Officials Workshops The booking calendar is open for 2012 Officials Workshops. We encourage Centre Officials Officers or Centre Committees to complete an application form for your 2012 Workshop and return it to the Association Office as soon as possible. Congratulations to the following Officials who have recently obtained gained accreditation since our last newsletter. Tracey Keong (Caboolture), Steve Larsen (Deception Bay) and Isabel Green (Sunnybank). Tracey Keong is the lucky draw prize winner. Congratulations Tracey on winning the draw and furthering your accreditation. Your gift voucher is in the mail. Handy Hints & Bits Try carrying some electrical tape when you are on the arena. Over time you may find it has uses as a marker, good to cover logos, temporary repair of shoes, to make sure a shoelace stay tied up, temporary repair of clothes, and to tape down paperwork. Do you have some handy hints for your fellow Officials? Please them to k.lunt@qlaa.asn.au and so it can be shared with all. The new IAAF handbook is available for sale from the Association Office at a cost of $10.00 if you collect it or $13.00 if postage is required. An Officials merchandise order form is attached. Orders can be collected from the information tent during the IGA State Championships. The Official s Mythbuster An athlete must enter a Shot Put or Discus circle from the back. This is a falsehood an athlete can enter the circle where ever they wish, they do not have to enter by the rear half. Test your knowledge Thank you to those Officials who submitted an entry in last editions Test Your Knowledge, High Jump Recording Sheet. Congratulations to Wendy Wilson, thank you for submitting your entry; an IGA voucher is in the mail for you. The answers to the test is at the end of this newsletter We Need to Keep in Touch If you would like to receive future editions of the Officials e-news, please be sure to provide the LAQ Office with your address and request to be added to the ing list. Likewise, if you do not wish to receive future editions of the Officials e-news, please the LAQ Office and request to be removed from the ing list. Do we have your correct and latest contact details? Please ensure you keep us up to date, so you can receive all the latest news as it comes to hand. A Note from the Editor The Officials Committee is always looking for ideas on how to improve our services to Officials. Please to Karen Lunt k.lunt@qlaa.asn.au with any ideas you have or things you would like the Committee to consider.
3 Page IGA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP APPOINTED OFFICIALS Our aim is that most Chief roles will be rotated to allow each Key Official breaks throughout the weekend. A list of specific event allocations will be available in the Officials Room. Any Official that wishes to officiate over the State Championship weekend should contact Karen Lunt through the Association Office ASAP. _Arena Manager _Arena Manager _Arena Officials Manager _Competition Manager _Jury of Appeal Chair Admin: Announcer Admin: Announcer Admin / Recording: Chf Recorder Admin / Recording: Meet Manager Track Admin: Medal Presentation Coord Admin: Medal Presentation Assistant Admin: Clash Marshall Admin: Clash Marshall Marie McAuliffe Karen Wolfenden Donna Smith Eddie Fabian Eddie Fabian Len Price Pennye Northey Alison Quirke Wendy Wilson Lyndal Hegarty Janneen Simpkins (Fri) Gayle Albert (Fri & Sun) Val Hooper (Sat) Ann Bell Kelly Buckby Andrew Northey Equipment: Coordinator Equipment: Technical Equipment Equipment Mal Currie Barrie Cox Steve Handsaker Jumps: Referee (H) Jumps: Referee (V) Jumps: Referee Jumps: Official Jumps: Official Jumps: Official (assess) Les Gearey Joanne McKenzie Dave Varley (Sun) Graeme Smith Julie Cousins Rob Gardner (Sat) Tony Frampton Geoff Melville Isabel Green Penny Goulter Steve Fielding Smith Toni Brennan Zarettha Stedman (Sat & Sun) Darrin Egar (Sat)
