Despite competing with just seven players for the second straight outing, the Aztecs rallied for a victory at Air Force last Saturday, engineering an 18-5 run over the final 5:26 to snap a two-game losing streak. Individually, SDSU was led by senior Cierra Warren, who tossed in 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting, while fellow classmate Danesha Long recorded her first collegiate double-double with a career-high tying 18 points and a personal-best 11 rebounds. The Aztec cause was also aided by juniors Khristina Hunter (14 points, 8 rebounds) and Desi Culberson (10 points, 3 assists), while sophomore Deidra Smith TOP PERFORMERS Scoring Cierra Warren Rebounding Cierra Warren Assists Ariell Bostick TOP PERFORMERS Scoring Jennifer Schlott Rebounding Elise Nelson Assists Jennifer Schlott (9 points, 11 rebounds) just missed out on her first career double-double. Warren tops the MW in overall field-goal percentage (.567) and ranks fifth in scoring (14.8 ppg), eighth in rebounds (6.4/gm) and ninth in blocked shots (1.0/gm). The SDSU center owns the top single-game performance in the league this season with 14 FGs at Sacramento State and has eclipsed the 20 point-barrier on seven occasions. In addition, Hunter finds herself among the league leaders, occupying the sixth spot in field-goal percentage (.478) and the ninth position in rebounds (6.4/gm). As a team, SDSU tops the MW in both rebounding margin (+6.3) and rebounding defense (33.9/gm). Elsewhere, the Aztecs are third in the league for all games with a.422 field-goal percentage and rank sixth in scoring defense (69.5 ppg), field-goal percentage defense (.414) and steals (7.7/gm). #AztecWBB Hits the Road for Return Engagement with Utah State San Diego State wraps up its two-game road swing on Wednesday when it locks horns with Utah State at Dee Glen Smith Spectrum in Logan, Utah. The Aztecs will be looking to sweep the regular-season series from the Aggies after posting an triumph in San Diego on Jan. 25. SDSU has captured all four meetings against USU, including a victory in December of 1982, when the Scarlet and Black ventured to Logan for the only time in its history prior to this year. The Aztecs have displayed somewhat of a split personality between home and road games in the Mountain West this season. In six league games at Viejas Arena, SDSU is averaging 74.0 points and owns a plus-11.7 scoring margin, while limiting the opposition to a.360 field-goal percentage and a.312 clip from beyond the arc. Conversely, the Aztecs are getting outscored by 13.0 points per outing and are averaging just 63.8 points in their six MW road contests, while opponents are shooting.455 from the floor, including a.443 pace from three-point territory. Senior Jennifer Schlott notched her seventh 30-point game of the season, but it wasn t enough as the Aggies missed two jumpers in the closing seconds to fall short. Schlott leads the conference in both scoring (24.8 ppg) and assists (6.0/gm) and ranks third in steals (2.0/gm)) and fourth in free-throw percentage (.807). A three-time MW player of the week honoree this season, Schlott was earlier named to the Nancy Lieberman Award watch list, which recognizes the top point guard in the country. In addition, Schlott s backcourt companion, junior Elise Nelson (6.1 ppg), occupies the top spot in the league with 2.6 steals per game and ranks 11th with a team-best 6.3 rebounds per outing, while fellow classmate Franny Vaaulu (10.3 ppg) finds herself among the MW leaders this week in steals (5th - (1.8/gm)), blocks (8th - (1.1/gm)) and field-goal percentage (10th - (.460)). As a team, Utah State is leading the conference in scoring offense with 77.7 points per game; however, it is allowing 76.2 points by the opposition, which ranks ninth. The Aggies also top the MW in freethrow percentage (.766) and steals (10.4/gm). Additionally, USU occupies the fourth position behind SDSU with a.417 field-goal percentage, while its.320 clip from three-point range ranks sixth. The Aggies have been one of the better ball-handling teams in the MW this season as well, owning a plus-2.9 turnover margin. With a Victory... An SDSU win over Utah State on Wednesday will mean: The Aztecs sweep the season series and move to 5-0 all-time against the Aggies. SDSU emerges victorious in its first visit to Logan since The Aztecs raise their conference record to 7-6. SDSU wins back-to-back road games for the first time this year and moves to 4-7 away from Viejas Arena. The Aztecs improve to 4-3 in games played on a Wednesday this season. Of Note San Diego State is undefeated this season: When leading with five minutes remaining in regulation (7-0) and is 58-1 since the start of the campaign. When leading at the half (5-0), but is 4-13 when trailing at intermission. In addition, the Aztecs are 8-1 so far this year when scoring more than 70 points in a game. However, SDSU is just 1-12 when it is held below the 70-point plateau. Similarly, the Aztecs are 6-1 when posting fewer turnovers than the opposition, but are 3-12 when they commit more miscues. Air Force Postgame Wrap Miscellany from the Aztecs victory over Air Force: SDSU extended its winning streak to eight straight over the Falcons. The Aztecs won for just the fourth time this season when trailing at the half. SDSU posted its fifth victory in a row when Cierra Warren scores at least 20 points. The Scarlet and Black is now 6-1 in those games. Tale of the Tape The fact that San Diego State sits at 9-13 heading into the third week of February can be at least partially attributed to the following factors: Three-Point Field Goals - The Aztecs opponents have drained a staggering 201 three-point field goals on the season for an average of 9.1 per game. Conversely, SDSU has connected on just 73 treys for the year and has averaged just 3.4 three-point baskets in its last 15 outings after hitting a season-high eight vs. UCLA on Dec. 15. As a result, the opposition is outscoring the Scarlet and Black by 17 points per game on triples alone. In addition, the Aztecs have allowed their opponents to shoot over 37 percent from beyond the arc, which ranks near the bottom of 343 Division I teams entering the week. Turnovers - The Aztecs are committing nearly three turnovers more per game ( ) than their foes this season, which ranks ninth in the MW. Last season, SDSU was just one of three teams in the league to finish with a positive turnover margin (+2.9), along with Fresno State and Colorado State. Opponents have capitalized on the Aztecs miscues by maintaining a combined advantage (+5.4/gm) in points off turnovers. However, SDSU has made steady progress in recently, committing 35 fewer miscues combined (82-117) in victories over Miami (OH), UC Riverside, Air Force, Fresno State, San José State and Utah State. Schedule - The Aztecs have played one of the toughest schedules in the country so far this year, featuring a pair of games against AP Top 25 foes in No. 19 South Carolina and No. 23 Texas A&M. In addition, NC State has cracked the AP Top 25 for the past seven weeks. Entering Wednesday s contest, the combined record of SDSU s non-conference opponents stands at (.599). Stability - San Diego State has employed nine different starting lineups this season after utilizing just three during the entire campaign. However, the Aztecs lost nearly 67 percent off their scoring offense from last season, forcing first-year year head coach Stacie Terry to juggle personnel. The results have now started to yield dividends. Coach Terry has used the same starting five (Cierra Warren, Khristina Hunter, Deajanae Scurry, Danesha Long, Ariell Bostick) in nine of the last 11 games, with the Aztecs posting a 5-4 record in those contests.

As a result, the Aztecs foes maintained a advantage in second-chance points during that stretch. However, SDSU has gradually reversed that trend, out-rebounding their last 15 opponents on the offensive boards by a plus-6.9 margin ( ) and maintaining a spread in second-chance points. Spreading the Wealth A total of nine Aztecs have scored in double digits at least twice this season, while five have accomplished the feat on five or more occasions. That is especially notable since SDSU has carried no more than 11 active players on its roster this year. In addition, the Aztecs have played seven games this season in which four players scored in double figures, including three straight outings against Miami (OH), UC Riverside and NC State. The last time SDSU had four players reach double figures in three consecutive outings occurred in 2009 vs. Pepperdine, Long Beach State and Loyola Marymount. Nothin Like Home Cookin Despite its rather modest 6-6 home record to start the season, SDSU has posted a ledger (.759) on the Viejas Arena court since the beginning of the campaign and has captured 33 of its last 41 on The Mesa. Rewind: Utah State at SDSU Powered by the trio of sophomore Deajanae Scurry, senior Cierra Warren and freshman Ariell Bostick, San Diego State scored an impressive victory over Utah State on Jan. 25 at Viejas Arena. The Aztec troika combined for 60 of the team s 88 points on a collective 21-for-38 effort (55.2 percent) from the field as SDSU raised its record to 7-10 on the year and 4-3 in conference play. Scurry recorded a career-high 22 points, draining 9-of-13 field-goal attempts, including four during a three-minute stretch in the second half to help extinguish a late Aggie threat. In addition, Warren notched 20 points on 6-of-10 shooting and added eight free throws, while Bostick finished with a personal-best 18 points of her own to go with a game-high six assists. On the flip side, USU (8-10, 2-5 MW) dropped its fifth in a row despite 25 points from the conference s leading scorer Jennifer Schlott. The Aggies were plagued by 26 turnovers, including seven apiece by Schlott and teammate Elise Nelson, as the Aztecs parlayed those miscues into 33 points. As a team, SDSU connected on 31 of 62 Utah State at San Diego State Box Score ( ) attempts (50 percent) from the floor, including a 6-for-13 clip from threepoint range, while USU went 29-for-66 on the day (44 percent), including a 1-for-9 performance from beyond the arc in the first half. The Aztecs also got to the foul line more often, draining 20-of- 29 free throws, compared to the Aggies 9-for-12 effort from the charity stripe. Cierra Warren In all, SDSU shot 18-for-31 from the floor (58 percent) in the first half and scored 22 points off 16 USU turnovers, while the visitors tallied just six points on 10 Aztec blunders. SDSU seemed primed to run away with the contest after Warren drained an easy layup on the first possession of the second half to give the hosts their largest lead of the game at However, the Aztecs went into a funk, misfiring on 12 of 13 field goal attempts over the ensuing nine minutes, while committing seven turnovers. In the interim, the Aggies crawled back into contention, aided by the hot shooting of Lynette Johnson, who scored nine points during a 23-8 USU outburst, which narrowed the gap to by spurt with 10:56 left on the clock. Following a pair of Aztec misses, the Aggies had a chance to cut the deficit to four, but Schlott s threepoint attempt rimmed out as Long corralled the rebound and was subsequently fouled. The SDSU guard sank both free throws, while Warren made a layup shortly thereafter to pump new life into the host school. USU answered with a trey by former Aztec Jasmine Porter, who transferred to the Aggie squad following the campaign, but Bostick came up huge at the other end, converting an and-one opportunity, while Warren promptly drained two foul shots to give SDSU a cushion with 8:12 to go. Scurry took over at this juncture, scoring eight of the Aztecs next 11 points, as SDSU s lead ballooned to 20 once again at with 5:05 remaining. USU connected on just one of five field goals and committed four turnovers during that fateful three-minute span. Despite a pair of triples by Schlott and another by Shelby Cloninger, the Aggies were never able to get any closer than 16 points the rest of the way as Bostick nailed six free throws down the stretch to help keep the visitors at bay. Warren Garners Second MW Player of the Week Award Senior Cierra Warren was named the Mountain West Women s Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season on Jan. 27, after helping the Aztecs to home wins over San José State and Utah State. For the week, Warren averaged 25.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists to go with a blocked shot and two steals, shooting a combined 51.6 percent from the floor on 16 of 31 field-goal attempts and 79.2 percent from the charity stripe on 19 of 24 free throws. Against SJSU, Warren posted career highs of 31 points and 14 rebounds, including a personal-best nine caroms on the offensive glass, to complete her third double-double of the season. In addition, she finished with a collegiate-high 11 free throws on 12 attempts (91.7 percent), opening with seven straight to surpass her career best in the first eight minutes of the game alone. Warren continued her stellar play vs. USU, finishing with 20 points and seven rebounds while shooting 60 percent from the field (6-10) en route to her sixth 20- plus point performance of the year. Déjà Vu All Over Again With the scoring totals of Deajane Scurry (22 pts.) and Cierra Warren (20 pts.) against Utah State on Jan. 25, SDSU finished with two 20-point players in the same game since Chelsea Hopkins (22 pts.) and Courtney Clements (21 pts.) accomplished the feat against SMU at home on Dec. 28, Ironically, that game ended with the identical score as the Aztecs-Aggies clash, an victory for San Diego State. January 22: 63 (Oh What A Night) When San Diego State grabbed 63 rebounds against San José State on Jan. 22, it marked the team s highest total since the inception of the Mountain West in The figure also represents the second-best tally in the league this year after Nevada grabbed 66 boards against the same SJSU squad on Jan. 1. In addition, the 63 caroms ranks third in league history for a MW contest and is sixth for overall games. The Fairfield, Calif., native has averaged 10.7 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.6 steals in her last 15 games, highlighted by her third career double-double vs. Air Force when she scored a career-high tying 20 points to go with a collegiate-best 17 rebounds. The feat was even more remarkable when one considers that she had 15 points and 13 boards by halftime. In addition, Hunter posted a personal-high nine field goals against the Falcons, a figure she matched a week later at UNLV. Long Story Short Senior Danesha Long posted her first collegiate double-double at Air Force on Feb. 15, scoring a career-high tying 18 points to go with a personal-best 18 rebounds as the Aztecs rallied past the Falcons. Last month, the SDSU guard came up huge at Fresno State, sinking the game-winning 15-foot jumper with 4.9 seconds left to give the Aztecs a upset victory. Long also netted 18 points in that contest, including a personal-best 4-for-4 effort from three-point range to help saddle the Bulldogs with their first conference loss of the year. Over the last 14 games, Long has averaged 11.5 points and 5.4 rebounds and has become SDSU s main three-point threat, draining 18 treys from beyond the arc during that stretch. Earlier, Long was named to the all-tournament team at the San Diego Surf N Slam, helping the Aztecs to a win in the opener against UC Riverside with 10 rebounds. Scorching the Nets San Diego State has finished with a.600 or better field-goal percentage in two games already this season ( at Sacramento State and at UCSB) after recording just two overall between 2000 and The two percentages mark the top team performances in the Mountain West so far this year.

5 #AztecWBB Inks Pair to NLIs San Diego State head coach Stacie Terry inked her first pair of recruits on Nov. 15, with the signing of Cheyenne Greenhouse (Riverside, Calif.) and Lexy Thorderson (Castle Rock, Colo.) to National Letters of Intent. The two high school seniors are set to join the Aztecs for the season. Greenhouse signs with SDSU out of Canyon Springs High School, where she captured CIF Division 1A co-player of the year honors as a junior last season after leading the Cougars to the Southern Section championship and a berth in the semifinals of the CIF regional tournament. A 5-11 guard, Greenhouse averaged 18.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.1 steals during the campaign, earning first-team all-state CIF Division 1A recognition while landing a spot on MaxPreps all-state first team. Cheyenne is going to be very important to us because she has can play multiple positions, Terry said. She will add tremendous athleticism to our program with her great leaping ability. Cheyenne is also a very intelligent player and her basketball IQ is off the charts. Greenhouse makes her signing official as a three-star recruit, according to ESPN HoopGurlz. A three-time all-inland Valley League selection for head coach Gail Hale at Canyon Springs, Greenhouse also brings three years of club experience with her to The Mesa, having played for Cal Swish in 2011, followed by a two-year stint with the West Coast Premier program. She intends to study biology or pre-medicine. Thorderson, meanwhile, garnered first-team all-continental Leagues accolades as a junior last year at Rock Canyon High School after averaging a team-best 16.1 points to go along with 5.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.3 steals. Under the tutelage of head coach Robbie Ballard, the 6-0 guard/forward received Colorado 5A honorable mention allstate distinction on two occasions in 2011 and In a game against eventual state champion Regis Jesuit last February, Thorderson scored 32 points to earn player of the game honors by MaxPreps. Earlier in the season, she also gained recognition as the Denver Post s female student-athlete of the week. Lexy s addition will enable us to extend our offense because she is deadly from three-point range, Terry said. Her ability to knock down that jumper will also help open up the game for our post players. Thorderson, who also competed at the USA Basketball U16 national team trials in 2011, has a basketball pedigree in her family. Her father Eric Thorderson played collegiately at Wayne State (Mich.) from , while two of her sisters, Ali and Abby, earned varsity letters at Weber State. She is undecided on a major at San Diego State, but is considering a career in physical therapy and physical education. Noting the Newcomers Of the 12 student-athletes on the current roster, five players will be wearing an Aztec uniform for the first time this season. Cierra Warren practiced with the squad last year but did not compete after transferring from Louisville, while Deidra Smith utilized her redshirt campaign as well, following her transfer from Boston College. In addition, sophomore Deajanae Scurry missed the latter half of the campaign to concentrate on academics. With San Diego State losing nearly 67 percent of its scoring offense from a year ago, three true freshmen look to gain significant experience this season. Guard Ariell Bostick (Oakland, Calif.) led Bishop O Dowd High School to a pair of CIF titles, while forward Alyssa Lawrence (New Rochelle, N.Y.) was an all-league and all-section honoree during her prep career. Not to be outdone, Chloe Johnson (Phoenix, Ariz.), who was named the Mountain West preseason freshman of the year, brings strong credentials with her to The Mesa after earning all-state honors for prep powerhouse St. Mary s High, which finished with a No. 1 national ranking in Aztecs Garner MW Preseason Honors San Diego State received three preseason Mountain West individual honors on Oct. 15, as forward Erimma Amarikwa was named to the all-conference team, center Cierra Warren was selected newcomer of the year, while guard Chloe Johnson was tabbed the MW preseason freshman of the year. As a team, the Aztecs were picked to finish third in the MW preseason poll, which was conducted in a combined panel of the league s 11 head coaches and select conference media members. SDSU collected 196 points and picked up two first-place votes, trailing second-place Wyoming, which received 212 points and four first-place votes, while preseason favorite Fresno State garnered 238 points and 17 first-place votes. SDSU Basketball Performance Center San Diego State Director of Athletics Jim Sterk announced on Nov. 12 that a proposed 23,500-square-foot basketball performance center is under design, with a plan to break ground on the project in late spring The $14.5 million facility, which will be located just south of the Fowler Athletics Center and east of the football practice fields, will include two full-length courts, eight baskets, locker rooms, film rooms, team lounges, athletic training room and coaches locker rooms to help support the Aztec men s and women s championship basketball programs. Although a majority of the funds have been pledged, fundraising continues for the project which is tentatively scheduled to be completed in This is an exciting day to be able to announce this project is moving forward, Sterk said. It is a project that will greatly benefit our already successful men s and women s basketball programs. It is also an important day because we are going public with our drive to raise funds for the project and hope that the community that has enjoyed San Diego State basketball will get behind this project. The basketball performance center is more than just a building, it is our classroom, SDSU women s basketball head coach Stacie Terry said. The facility will provide an opportunity for our student-athletes to enhance their individual games, which will in turn benefit our program. It also keeps San Diego State competing at the highest level not only in basketball, but in recruiting as well. For more information on the Basketball Performance Center or to pledge a gift, contact the Aztec Club at (619) Two For The Show Former SDSU All-Americans Courtney Clements and Chelsea Hopkins both earned roster spots with the WNBA this past season after completing their illustrious careers for the Scarlet and Black following the campaign. Clements joined the Atlanta Dream as a free-agent rookie last May, while Hopkins was signed by the San Antonio Silver Stars in September. Clements appeared in 30 games for Atlanta in 2013, becoming the first former Aztec to compete for a WNBA title after the Dream advanced to finals against the eventual champion Minnesota Lynx. The Long Beach native totaled 59 points (2.2/gm) on the year to go with 26 rebounds, eight assists and five steals. Against the Seattle Storm on July 14, Clements recorded a season-best 12 points before logging season highs of five rebounds and 29 minutes played vs. San Antonio on Sept. 15. Hopkins, meanwhile, averaged 14.3 minutes in three games during a late-season tour of duty with the Silver Stars, finishing with six points, six rebounds and five as Listen Live For the 13th consecutive year, Aztec women s basketball fans will have an opportunity to listen to live play-by-play of most regular-season games (home and away) over the internet at SDSU alumus Chris Ello will handle the play-by-play duties both at home and on the road for the seventh straight season. In addition, all Aztec home contests during the regular season will feature a live video stream via the Mountain West Network to supplement the audio call from Viejas Arena. Up Next Following Wednesday s clash San Diego State will return to Viejas Arena on Saturday, Feb. 22, when it squares off against New Mexico for the first time this season. 10 Hometown San Diego, Calif. Education Bachelor of Arts - Broadcast Journalism Texas-Arlington, 1998 Playing Experience Texas-Arlington Head Coaching Experience 2013 San Diego State Assistant Coaching Experience LSU UCLA Southern Mississippi Illinois Dayton Louisville THE STACIE TERRY FILE Texas-Arlington STACIE TERRY Head Coach First Season Texas-Arlington (1998) Stacie Terry was named the eighth head coach in the history of the San Diego State women s basketball program on May 15, A native of San Diego, Terry gained a wealth of experience as an assistant coach at the Division I level over the past 14 years, including the last five under head coach Nikki Caldwell, who transformed UCLA into a powerhouse before restoring LSU to national prominence. During Terry s two seasons at LSU, the Lady Tigers compiled a overall record and earned two NCAA tournament bids, including a Sweet 16 appearance during the campaign. This past season, the Lady Tigers also posted six victories against ranked opponents and finished with their second-highest scoring average (69.0) in the last seven years. Under Terry s guidance, forward LaShondra Barrett garnered first-team all-southeastern Conference accolades and received honorable mention All-America distinction in 2012 before becoming a first-round draft choice of the WNBA s Washington Mystics. I am honored and humbled to be the next head coach at San Diego State University, Terry said. I want to thank Jim (Sterk) and his staff for this amazing opportunity. This is such a special place for me. Not only is this my dream job, but it is home. SDSU is a first class university that has all the resources in place to be successful. I am so eager to get started and confident that we can continue the winning tradition that Aztec supporters have become accustomed to both on and off the court. Prior to her arrival at LSU, Terry served as an assistant under Caldwell at UCLA from , helping the Bruins gain national acclaim with a pair of NCAA tournament appearances. During Terry s tenure, UCLA posted 72 overall victories, as the squad finished with a 28-5 record, setting a school record for fewest losses in a single season to go with a No. 7 national ranking. In addition, the Bruins signed the fourth-ranked recruiting class that season, according to ESPN HoopGurlz, while Terry helped mentor first-team all-pac-10 performers in Doreena Campbell, Darxia Morris and Jasmine Dixon, a 2012 honorable mention AP All-America selection, as well as all-conference freshman honorees Atonye Nyingifa and Markel Walker. Terry spent the campaign at Southern Mississippi, as the Golden Eagles posted a record and earned a postseason berth in the Women s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). While at Southern Miss, Terry spearheaded the development and coordination of the Lady Eagle recruiting campaign. Her responsibilities also included working with the perimeter players, scouting opponents and film breakdown, as well as coordinating all of the team s community service events. Terry also coached for three seasons from as an assistant under Hall of Fame head coach Theresa Grentz at Illinois, where the Fighting Illini had three straight recruiting classes ranked among the top 25 in the nation, according to Blue Star Basketball, and made three consecutive trips to the WNIT. Her primary duties included defensive instruction and working with the perimeter players. In addition, Terry coached at Dayton during the season following a three-year stint at Louisville from With the Cardinals, Terry s responsibilities encompassed recruiting, scouting, player development, summer camps and serving as a liaison for the program s community service outreach. Louisville captured the Conference USA regular-season title and earned a trip to the NCAA tournament in 2001 before making a WNIT appearance in She also assisted in signing the nation s 21st-ranked recruiting class in , according to All-Star Girls Report. Terry recruited and coached all-conference USA honoree Lori Nero, a draft choice of the WNBA s Houston Comets, as well as Sara Nord, who finished her collegiate career as the Cardinals all-time assist leader and ranks among the top 15 scorers in school history. Terry enjoyed a successful collegiate playing careerat Texas-Arlington, winning four varsity letters from under head coach Mike Dean. She earned firstteam all-southland Conference honors after leading the Mavericks in scoring with 17.4 points per game as a senior in Terry scored 1,169 points during her career at UTA and still ranks among the school s top 10 in three-point field goals made (third), assists (sixth), steals (seventh) and free-throw percentage (10th). She is just one of 17 players in Maverick history to surpass the 1,000-point plateau, while her.335 career threepoint field-goal percentage is also a school and Southland Conference career record. Terry played one season of professional basketball in Warsaw, Poland, averaging 12.0 points and 6.0 assists with the Polonia Phoenix, before returning to Texas-Arlington to begin her coaching career as a graduate assistant in Terry prepped at El Capitan High and held the Vaqueros career scoring record for three years following her graduation. She was inducted into the school s athletic hall of fame in 2008.
