Wisconsin won its 8th-straight over Minnesota, pulling out a overtime victory Monday at the Kohl Center. In erasing a 7-point deficit, UW held the Gophers to just 1 field goal over the final 5:57 of regulation and overtime - a span of 10:57. UW matched a season-high with 12 3FGs, going 12-for-29 from long range. Junior Ethan Happ scored 10 points (all in the second half), including the game-tying basket with 5.2 seconds remaining. He also added 4 boards, 5 assists, 2 blocks and 3 steals. Sophomore Brevin Pritzl scored a careerhigh 20 points, going 6-for-9 from 3-point range. Freshman Brad Davison played a career-high 44 minutes and finished with 19 points (5-8 3FGs), 4 boards, 2 assists and 4 steals. Junior Khalil Iverson grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds. DAVISON TAKES THE LEAD Guard Brad Davison is putting together one of the best freshman seasons in recent UW history and making a hard charge for the Big Ten's All- Freshman team. When D'Mitrik Trice and Kobe King went down with injuries on Dec. 8, Davison took over the point guard assignment and has prospered. Davison is 2nd on the team and 2nd among Big Ten freshmen averaging 11.7 ppg. That includes a career-high 20 points vs. Marquette. He has scored in double figures 19 times. Over the last 20 years (since 1998), only 3 Badgers have averaged double figures in their freshman season: Devin Harris (12.3 ppg) in 2002, Alando Tucker (12.0 ppg) in 2003 and Ethan Happ (12.4 ppg) in Among freshmen, Davison is one of the Big Ten's top producers in several categories. Davison went 11-for-19 (57.9%) from 3-point range in those 3 games. HAPP SURGING One of the top candidates for the All-Big Ten team, junior Ethan Happ is increasing his level of play during the heart of Big Ten play. Happ ranks 10th on Ken Pomeroy's National Player of the Year standings. OSU's Keita Bates- Diop (6th) is the only other B1G player on the list. With back-to-back games of 27 points (at ILL) and 29 (vs. MICH), Happ has now posted 7 career games with at least 25 points. Over the last 10 years, only 2 other Badgers have had at least 7 25-point games. Happ is quickly climbing Wisconsin's all- me scoring chart. He currently ranks 10th with 1,473 career points, needing 59 points to pass Mike Wilkinson (1,532) to move into 9th place. HAPP'S RARE AIR Ethan Happ is averaging 18.0 ppg, 8.3 rpg and 3.9 apg. Over the last 20 years, Ohio State's Evan Turner and LSU's Ben Simmons are the only major conference players to average at least 18 ppg, 8 rpg and 4 apg for a season. HAPP JOINS ELITE GROUP Ethan Happ recently joined an exclusive club with at least 1,000 points, 800 rebounds and 250 assists. 4 GAME 30: AT NORTHWESTERN HAPP HYPE THE GAME'S BEST ALL-AROUND PLAYER HAPP'S HONORS A 2017 third-team All-American Ethan Happ was decorated with a host of preseason honors this season: HAPP MAKING HISTORY Last season, junior Ethan Happ established himself as one of the best players in college basketball. This season, he's looking like one of the best players of the last 20 years. Happ is doing it all this season. In fact, he is the nation's only player to accumulate at least 500 points, 240 rebounds and 100 assists this season. Happ leads the Badgers in points (18.0), rebounds (8.3), assists (3.9), steals (42) and ranks 2nd in blocks (28). Happ is the only player in the Big Ten leading his team in points, rebounds and assists. Happ is the only major conference player averaging at least 16.0 ppg, 8.0 rpg and 3.0 apg. In fact, over the last 20 years (since ) only 3 Big Ten players have averaged those marks for an entire season and all 3 were Big Ten Player of the Year and consensus All-Americans: Ohio State's Evan Turner (2010), Michigan State's Draymond Green (2012) and Purdue's Caleb Swanigan (2017). In fact, Happ was the first major conference player in over 20 years to reach those marks for an entire season. Vermont's Marqus Blakely (2009 & 10) is the only other D-I player to hit those marks since at least Happ was the nation's only player to lead his team in points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals during conference play last season. Happ became just the 4th major conference player over the last 20 years to lead his team in all 5 categories during conference play. Also: Utah's Delon Wright (2014), St. John's D.J. Kennedy (2010) and Virginia Tech's Bryant Ma hews (2003). With 1,473 career points, Happ ranks 10th on Wisconsin's all- me scoring list. Despite only being a junior, Happ is quickly approaching the Wisconsin school rebounding record. He currently ranks 4th on the school's career chart with 851 rebounds and is just 53 away from Claude Gregory's record 904 caroms. Even though he's just a junior, Happ recently joined an exclusive club, owning at least 1,000 career points, 800 rebounds and 250 assists. He is just the 5th Big Ten player to reach those thresholds since Happ is one of just 3 players in school history to amass 1,000 points, 800 rebounds and 200 assists in his career (Mike Wilkinson and Nigel Hayes). 6 PRITZL'S PRIME After averaging just 1.9 ppg as a freshman last season, sophomore, Brevin Pritzl has emerged as a big offensive threat for Wisconsin this season. Over the last 4 games, Pritzl has averaged 14.0 ppg and 4.5 rpg, shooting 57.1% from 3-point range (12-21) and 14-for-15 at the FT line. In UW's win over Minnesota (2/19), Pritzl scored a career-high 20 points, going 6-for-9 from 3-point range. He connected on 4 triples in the final 7 minutes and overtime. In UW's most recent road game (a win at Illinois), Pritzl tallied 15 points and 6 rebounds off the bench, going 3-for-3 from 3-point range and 6-for-6 free throw. On the season, Pritzl is 4th on the Badgers averaging 9.1 ppg and 3rd on the team with 3.6 rpg. He is shooting 35.4% from 3-point range (46-130) and 84.3% at the FT line (43-51). In 16 games at the Kohl Center, Pritzl is averaging 11.2 ppg and shooting 41.5% from 3-point range (34-82). FORD FEELING IT In just his first season in uniform, redshirt freshman Aleem Ford is emerging as one of the better sharp-shooters in the Big Ten. Ford leads the Badgers and ranks 12th in the Big Ten in 3-point field goal percentage, shooting 42.1% (40-95) from long range. Ford's mark of 42.1% ranks 2nd among all Big Ten freshmen (min. 35 3FGs). If he can keep up this pace, Ford would challenge UW's single-season 3-point FG percentage record for a freshman. With a record of (.618), head coach Greg Gard is the 9th coach in UW history to win 50 games. The Kohl Center was completed for a cost of $76.4 million and officially opened on January 17, 1998 with a men s basketball win over Northwestern, before 16,697 in attendance. In addition to UW athletics, the Kohl Center has played host to several well-known dignitaries and performers such as: Elton John and Billy Joel, The Eagles, Tom Petty, Shania Twain, John Mellencamp, Cher, the Dave Matthews Band and the Dalai Lama. The University of Wisconsin s commencement ceremonies are also held in the Kohl Center every December and May. Major Benefactors The building is named for U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wisconsin), a 1956 graduate of UW- Madison, who donated $25 million to the project. Kohl s gift is the single largest private donation in University history. Former All-Big Ten basketball player Albert Ab Nicholas and his wife, Nancy Johnson Nicholas, pledged $10 million toward the project. The facility s practice gym is named the Nicholas-Johnson Pavilion. Nicholas received his B.S. and M.B.A. degrees from UW-Madison. The Kellner family, Jack F. and his sons, Ted and Jack W., of Milwaukee gave $2.5 million. All three Kellners received degrees from UW. A new basketball floor was installed in 2008 and dedicated to Andy and Susan North for their generous contribution. Renovation Projects The overhead scoreboard from the UW Field House was installed in the Kohl Center upon opening, but was replaced in 2004 and again in The new center-hung circular LED videoboard is almost 35 wide by 22 tall weighing nearly 38,000 pounds. A ring beam was also installed around the circumference of the arena on the first balcony. In 2012 as part of the LaBahn Arena construction project, LaBahn Arena and a Kohl Center remodeling project were completed in the fall of 2012, keeping the Badgers facilities among the best in the country. Named in honor of lead donors Charles (Wisconsin 49) and Mary Ann LaBahn, LaBahn Arena opened on Oct. 19, 2012 and sits adjacent to the Kohl Center, connected via an underground hallway. This $27.9 million project includes a competition rink for UW women s hockey as well as new locker rooms for both men s and women s hockey. As part of that 2012 project, the Kohl Center also received newly remodeled and expanded locker rooms for the men s and women s basketball teams. All four locker rooms also include lounges with ping pong, big-screen televisions and eating areas as well as a team video room with stadium-style seating. The updates also included an increased sports medicine facility Hydroworx rehabilitation pool and recovery tubs as well as a student-athlete dining area. In 2017, a new center-hung scoreboard was installed. Capacity The Kohl Center is the third-largest arena in the Big Ten Conference, seating 17,287 for men s basketball, which includes courtside seating. This figure includes approximately 7,500 seats in the lower seating bowl and 4,500 in each of the two balconies. The Kohl Center is home to The Grateful Red, the third-largest student section in the Big Ten, seating 2,100.
