Simply go to the UMKC A t h l e t i c s home page at: ON THE ROAD AGAIN UMKC women s basketball travel to Tulsa, Okla. to play in a Mid- Continent Conference match-up with Oral Roberts. Ti p - o ff at the Mabee Center is set for 2:05 p.m. CST. It is a rematch of the championship game of the Fun in the Sun Shootout. THE SERIES UMKC leads the series with Oral Roberts and had its four game winning streak against the Golden Eagles snapped earlier this season in the Fun in the Sun Shootout. The last ORU win in the Mabee Center was a overtime victory on Feb. 2, It was the same season that they defeated the Kangaroos in Kansas City, in double overtime on Jan. 5. Since the Jerry Finkbeiner era UMKC has lost both match-ups with the Golden Eagles only twice ( and ). SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES Oral Roberts is 12-6 overall and 3-4 in the Mid-Con. The Golden Eagles are led by Elisha Turek, a three-time Mid-Con Player-of-the- Week award winner, who averages 18.9 points per game and 10.2 rebounds per game. THE COACHES Bo Overton is 6-12 in his first year as head coach at UMKC. He comes to Kansas City after spending the last six seasons as an assistant at Oklahoma. While with the Sooners they compiled a record, winning three Big 12 championships and appearing in five NCAA Tournaments. In 2002 the Sooners played in the National Championship game. Jerry Finkbeiner is in his eighth season at Oral Roberts and overall in 14 seasons. Finkbeiner became the winningest women s basketball coach at ORU last season. LAST TIME OUT FOR ORALROBERTS Anne Hafeli scored a career-high 31 points, hitting nine 3-pointers, in leading Oakland University to a Mid-Continent Conference win over Oral Roberts University, Monday at the Athletics Center O'Rena. Hafeli was 11-of-15 from the field, including 9-of-12 from beyond the arc. She also added nine rebounds and a pair of assists to her impressive stat line. Maureen Obudho led ORU with 11 points, also getting seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. She was the only Golden Eagle to reach double-figures. UP NEXT UMKC travels to Indianapolis, Ind. to take on IUPUI on Monday, Jan. 31. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. CST at the IUPUI Gymnasium.

2 SWINNEY RECREATION CENTER UMKC calls Swinney Recreation Center its primary home court. Since the 1,500-seat on-campus facility opened to the public in 1987, UMKC has fashioned an (.549) all-time record. The Kangaroos are (.586) at Swinney over the last three seasons. KANGAROOS ON TELEVISION The next UMKC game on the schedule to be broadcast on Metro Sports in the greater Kansas City area is the February 21 contest against Oral Roberts at Swinney Recreation Center. Metro Sports will also broadcast the first round of the Mid-Continent Conference tournament to be held in Tulsa, Okla. on March 5-8. LASTTIME OUT FOR THE KANGAROOS The UMKC women's basketball team lost to Arkansas, 69-46, in a non-conference match-up on Tues. Jan. 25 in Swinney Rec Center. Sophomore Jowan Ortega led the Kangaroos with 13 points while senior guard Katie Houlehan pulled down nine boards. The first four minutes of the game were close as UMKC (6-12 overall) was only down by four points at the first break in action. But the Lady Razorbacks (13-6 overall) went on a 14-9 run that used up 11 minutes of the first half to take a 15-point lead into the intermission. In the second half the Kangaroos fought back to within 12 points on an Ortega three-pointer at the 16-minute mark but never got any closer. Arkansas outscored UMKC 19-7 on points off turnovers and 15-7 on second chance points. The Kangaroos held the advantage in points in the paint, outscoring the Lady Razorbacks UMKC was 43.5 percent (20-46) from the field while Arkansas was 39.1 percent (27-69) from the field. The Lady Razorbacks almost made as many three-point baskets as the Kangaroos took, going (37.5%) from behind the arch as UMKC was 4-13 (30.8%). TIP-INS... The Kangaroos sports a (.627) all-time record in games played at historic Municipal Auditorium in downtown Kansas City. The last win for UMKC at Municipal was an victory over Southern Utah in the conference home opener on Jan. 6, UMKC broke the single-game home attendance record against Kansas State on Dec. 11, 2004 with 2,611 fans in attendance. It was the seventh largest crowd ever to attend a UMKC women s basket ball game. 15 BO OVERTON Head Coach, First Season (Oklahoma 83) Bo Overton, a former assistant basketball coach at the University of Oklahoma, was named women's basketball coach at UMKC June 7, Prior to his appointment at UMKC, Overton spent six seasons as an assistant coach at Oklahoma, where the Sooners compiled a record. During Overton's tenure, Oklahoma won three Big 12 Conference regular season titles. OU also advanced to the NCAA Tournament five times, including an appearance in the 2002 NCAA National Championship game. Overton, the starting point guard for the Sooners in the early 1980s, is considered one of the top recruiters in the country. The native of Ada, Okla., worked with all phases of the Oklahoma women's basketball program. Overton began his coaching career as a graduate assistant for the Oklahoma men's basketball program in , followed by a year each as an assistant coach with the Continental Basketball Association's Pensacola (Fla.) Tornadoes ( ) and Oral Roberts University ( ). He then landed his first head coaching position at Murray State Junior College in Tishomingo, Okla. After a two-year stay at MSJC, Overton returned to Oral Roberts to assist coach Ken Trickey. He remained with the Golden Eagles for two seasons before accepting an assistant coach position at Southwest Texas State under current Kansas State men's head coach Jim Wooldridge. Overton's and Wooldridge's working relationship extended over five years and two institutions as the pair teamed up for one year at Southwest Texas and four years at Louisiana Tech ( ). During his four seasons as a player for the Sooners ( ), Overton led the team in assists his final three seasons and currently ranks third on the school's all-time assists list with 517. He also ranks second on the Sooners' career list in free throw percentage after he converted 85.2 percent of his shots (184-of-216). He concluded his collegiate playing career by leading Oklahoma to the NCAA Mideast Regional and a second-place Big Eight Conference finish. Overton became the 22nd player in OU men's basketball history to be drafted professionally. He was selected by the Phoenix Suns in 1983 NBA Draft. He was a four-year letterwinner at Ada, earning Oklahoma Coaches, Tulsa World and Daily Oklahoman Player-of-the-Year recognition in Overton was also a member of the McDonald's and National Coaches Association All-America squads. He received the prestigious Jim Thorpe Award in 1979, which is presented annually to the top athlete in each sport at the Oklahoma state high school championships.
