SANTA CLARA: Pacific trails the all-time series with Kansas 2-0, with the Tigers losing to the Jayhawks in the NCAA Tournament Secound Roud to end the season. Pacific's Series History with Kansas L L TIGERS WITH TERRIFIC TURNAROUND IN : Pacific finished the season with a record of 25-8, a turnaround of It was the second best turnaround in the nation, behind Texas El Paso's +18 turnaround from six wins to 24. Texas El Paso Pacific High Point Pacific 71, Santa Clara 65: Senior David Doubley (Oakland, Calif.) and junior Christian Maraker (Varberg, Sweden) combined for 40 points and the Pacific men's basketball team improved to 2-0 on the season with a nonconference victory over Santa Clara (3-2) on Tuesday, Nov. 23, at the Alex G. Spanos Center... Maraker led the way in the first half as the junior forward netted eight of Pacific's first 14 points in the game and the Tigers jumped out to a 14-6 lead with 13:30 to go in the first half... Later, Santa Clara chipped away at the lead and got to within one at when Brody Angley buried a jumper at the 8:08 mark... Maraker would single handedly give Pacific its biggest lead of the half at 14 points, 36-22, when he dropped in 12 of Pacific's next 15 points, including two three-pointers on his way to a first half high of 20 points. The Tigers went into halftime up Pacific pushed its lead out to 16 points, at the 16:35 mark, by going on a quick 7-2 run to open the second half as Doubley scored five of the points... The Tigers, though, were only able to score seven points over the next eight minutes as the Broncos cut the lead down to five, 54-49, with 8:49 to play... Doubley scored seven of the Tigers' next eight points, and Pacific pushed its lead back out to eight points, 62-54, with 4:30 to go in the game... Santa Clara got as close as three points down the stretch, but the Tigers hit 5-of-6 free throws in the last 1:12 of the game to secure the victory... With the Tigers trailing 10-0 just over four minutes into the game, Pacific fought back with a 20-2 run to take a advantage... The Tigers took a lead into the intermission... Pacific remained in control throughout the second half of play, hitting on 13 of its 21 field goal attempts (61.9 percent) to cruise to the win... Senior Marko Mihailovic (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) scored a career-high 18 points for Pacific... He was 7-of-11 from the field, including a 4-of-7 effort from three-point range... The Tigers have signed Joe Ford, Steffan Johnson, Casey Neimeyer, Ben Pemberton, Wolfgang Rafferty and Reggie Vezia to national letters of intent. Ford is a 6-6 guard/forward from Altadena, Calif. He is a senior at Campbell Hall

5 5 High School where last year he averaged 21.8 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. While at Campbell Hall HS, he earned numerous honors, All-Delphic League First Team honors as a sophomore, First Team All-San Fernando Valley, First Team All- CIF in division four as well as Second Team All-State in Division Four. In three tournament, Ford was named the MVP. He also earned team MVP honors as a junior, while leading the Campbell Hall HS to 26 wins. Joe is a great all around person and an outstanding basketball player, said Thomason. We are thrilled to have him joining our program. Johnson is a 6-1 point guard from Kent, Wash. Johnson, currently a senior at Kent Meridian High School, averaged 17.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game last season as a junior for Kent Meridian HS. He has earned first team all-league and first team all-area honors. He was named team MVP last year leading his team to a 15-7 overall record and 11-5 in league play. Steffan is a great point guard who is a leader and a winner, said Thomason. He is also an outstanding defensive player, who will lead our team in the near future. Neimeyer is a 6-7 forward from Woodland, Calif. Last season as junior for Woodland Christian High School, Neimeyer averaged a double-double, scoring 19.8 points and 12.7 rebounds. He was named All-CVCL and earned All Metro Honorable Mention recognition last season. Neimeyer also was the team MVP and team captain. Casey is a strong, tough inside player, said Thomason. We feel Casey will be a great inside presence for our team. Pemberton is a 6-6 shooting guard/small forward from Tyler, Texas. He comes to Pacific from Tyler Junior College, where he played both the shooting guard and small forward positions last season. Overall, Pemberton averaged 7.0 points, while shooting 48% from the field and 82% at the free throw line last year for Tyler JC. Ben is an excellent shooter with great range, said Thomason. We are looking forward to having Ben here. He can play both the shooting guard and small forward positions. Rafferty is a 6-8 center from Placerville, Calif. Rafferty averaged 9.6 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 54% from the field last season as a freshman at American River College. He was named to the All Big Valley Freshman Team his first year at American River College. Rafferty helped lead ARC to the California State JC semifinals last year. Wolfgang is a blue collar post player that also has the ability to shoot the ball from behind the arc, said Thomason. We feel, as a staff, that he can come in and impact our team right away. Vezia is a 6-2 guard from Vacaville, Calif. He comes to Pacific from Solano Junior College, where he averaged 15.7 points and hauled in 4.8 rebounds per game as a freshman. He also has shown the ability to shoot from the three-point line, nailing 44% of his shots. While at Solano, Vezia has earned All-Bay Valley Conference Honorable Mention honors and was an all tournament team pick in Vezia has shown great leadership, earning team captain and team MVP honors. He also has excelled in the classroom, having been named to the Dean s List. Reggie is a versatility player that will play point and off guard for us, said Thomason. His toughness and competitiveness will make an impact on our team next year.
