The Frogs have played four ranked teams in their first five league games, including three on the road. The fifth game was a home contest against Oklahoma State who is receiving votes in both top-25 polls. TCU is coming off of an defeat at No. 15 Texas on Saturday and will be playing back-to-back road games against ranked teams for the first time since Jan. 11 and Jan. 13, 2014 at No. 7 Baylor and No. 11 Oklahoma State, respectively. In Saturday s loss at Texas, the Frogs shot a season-low 30 percent overall and 17 percent from deep. TCU scored just eight points in the second quarter and trailed by 11 at halftime. Texas then used a third-quarter run to put the game away. Entering the game at Texas, TCU was first in the NCAA in 3-point shooting percentage, however the 4-of-24 (17 percent) effort dropped the Frogs to 40.1 percent on the season, good for seventh in the NCAA. TCU has moved the ball well this season, assisting on a Big 12-best 68.8 percent of its baskets. The Frogs are averaging 17.7 assists per game, ranking second in the Big 12 and 18th in the NCAA. AJ Alix is the Frogs leading scorer at 11.6 points per game. In the Frogs two games before their trip to Austin, Alix scored 23 and 24 points against Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, respectively. In Big 12 play, Alix is averaging 15.8 points per game and a league-best 3.8 made 3-pointers per game. Toree Thompson led TCU with 12 points off the bench at Texas. She has scored in double figures in two of the last three games. Jordan Moore added 11 points, also off the bench at GAME 16 Date: Wednesday, January 11, 2017 Time: 7:00 p.m. CST Location: Waco, Texas Venue: Ferrell Center (10,284) TV: Fox Sports Southwest Talent: John Morris (PxP); Jim Haller (Analyst) Online: FoxSportsGo.com Radio: KTCU 88.7 FM Talent: Jeff Williams (PxP) Online: GoFrogs.com (FrogVision) Live Stats: Baylor.StatBroadcast.com SCHEDULE/ RESULTS OVERALL RECORD: 8-7 Big 12: 0-4 Non-Conference: 8-3 Home: 8-3 Away: 0-4 Neutral: 0-0 NOVEMBER (5-1) Sat. 5 Texas A&M-Commerce (Exh) W Fri. 11 Incarnate Word --- W Tues. 15 Sam Houston State --- W Sun. 20 SMU --- W Tues. 22 Grambling State --- W Sat. 26 at #1/1 Notre Dame ACCN L Wed. 30 Butler FSN W DECEMBER (3-3) Sun. 4 at LSU (1) SECN L Thurs. 8 Texas A&M FS1 L Sun. 11 McNeese --- W Sun. 18 Texas Southern --- W Tues. 20 Alcorn State --- W Thur. 29 #12/12 West Virginia* --- L JANUARY (0-3) Sun. 1 at #24/24 Oklahoma* FS OK L Wed. 4 Oklahoma State* FSSW+ L Sat. 7 at #15/17 Texas* LHN L Wed. 11 * FSSW 7:00 pm Sun. 15 Iowa State* FSSW/+ 12:00 pm Wed. 18 State* FCS 7:00 pm Sun. 22 Kansas* FSSW 6:00 pm Wed. 25 Texas* FSSW+ 8:00 pm Sat. 28 at Iowa State* :00 pm FEBRUARY (0-0) Sun. 5 * JTV 1:30 pm Wed. 8 Texas Tech* FSSW 7:00 pm Sun. 12 Baylor* ESPN2 3:00 pm Wed. 15 at Oklahoma State* FS OK 6:00 pm Sat. 18 Kansas State* FCS 3:00 pm Wed. 22 * --- 6:00 pm Sat. 25 Oklahoma* FSSW+ 7:00 pm Mon. 27 * FSN 7:00 pm MARCH/APRIL (0-0) Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship (Oklahoma City, Okla.) DEFENSIVE START In its opener, TCU held UIW to 19.6 percent (11-of-56) shooting for the seventh best effort in program history. TCU then held Sam Houston State to 15.7 percent (8-of-51) for the program s third best effort. Almost all of the Frogs defensive numbers are above that of last season. BUTTS CAREER YEAR Jada Butts comes in as TCU s third leading scorer at 9.7 points per game. She has scored in double figures in six games, including a season-best 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting against Texas A&M. Not only is Butts leading the Frogs in scoring, she is also second in assists. Butts and her family created the Aubree Butts Leadership Foundation. It is in honor of her older sister, Aubree, who was a basketball player at Texas A&M-Commerce that was killed in a car accident in June The foundation is an endowment for scholarships for students from Lewisville High School and Westside Baptist Church that have the characteristics that Aubree embodied. Through the foundation, Butts and her family give three $500 scholarships annually. They also support the Lewisville High School non-profit Community in School which gives financial support for rent and groceries to students whose parents are deceased or in desperate need. Butts also organized a basketball camp that was held at Lewisville High School. College and professional athletes provided skills instruction to middle school and high school girls and boys. All proceeds from the camp went to the Aubree Butts Leadership Foundation. 4 BY THE NUMBERS 40.1 TCU is shooting 40.1 percent from 3-point range as a team, the seventh best mark in the NCAA. 5 WHAT TO WATCH FOR TCU is 5-30 all-time against Baylor, including 0-8 in the Big 12 with Baylor ranked in the top seven nationally in all eight meetings. Baylor has won 20 straight against the Frogs. TCU last won a road game against a ranked team on Feb. 5, 2014 at No. 23 Iowa State. The Frogs have lost nine straight on the road against ranked teams. TCU s highest ranked win is a trio of victories over the nation s No. 3 team. TCU beat Georgia in , Maryland in and California in Before making just four on Saturday at Texas, TCU had made at least six 3-pointers in every game this season. The Frogs have made seven or more 3-pointers in all but two games this season. TCU is playing all four of the Big 12 s ranked teams (three on the road) in its first five games of league play. The other game was against an Oklahoma State team that was receiving votes in both polls. Amber Ramirez has made a 3-pointer in eight straight games she has played in (every game of her career). Two of Toree Thompson s three double-figure scoring games this season have come in the last three games. NO SOPHOMORE SLUMP TCU coaches and players have raved about Jordan Moore s improved conditioning, and it has helped the sophomore center turn in some consistent performances. Moore was the only Frog to score in double figures in each of season s first three games. She also recorded a career-best 11 rebounds against SMU for her first career double-double and has since tied a career-high with 16 points against Texas A&M and Oklahoma. The Round Rock, Texas native is 10th in the Big 12 in field goal percentage at 54.9 percent this season. She is 17th in the league in rebounding with 5.9 boards per game. Moore is also averaging 9.7 points per game. Here is a look at her stats as a sophomore and a freshman Scoring FG percentage Rebounding Blocked shots MOORE PROTECTING PAINT Jordan Moore leads TCU and ranks 13th in the Big 12 with 1.4 blocks per game. She has 77 career blocks, already the fourth most in TCU history for the sophomore. Her 58 blocks and 1.76 per game last season ranked fifth in the Big 12, and first among freshmen. Moore s 58 blocks were the eighth most in a single season in TCU history, and the second most by a freshman, behind only Sandora Irvin who finished her career as the NCAA s all-time leader. RAY S IMPRESSIVE DEBUT SEASON True freshman Kianna Ray has started every game for the Frogs, the only Big 12 freshman to do so. Her 27.9 minutes per game ranks second among Big 12 freshmen. In Big 12 play, Ray ranks among the Big 12 leaders (top 15) in assists, free throw percentage, steals, 3-point percentage, 3-pointers per game and minutes. FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK...TWICE A pair of TCU freshmen have been honored by the Big 12 this season with Amber Ramirez earned Freshman of the Week honors on December 5 and Mikayla Christian earning the same award on December 27. Ramirez averaged 12.5 points per game that week, including 19 against Butler with 5-of-8 made from deep. Christian had a very similar 19 points with 5-of-7 from deep against Alcorn State to earn her award. Ramirez was the first Frog to earn the award since Zahna Medley, TCU s all-time leading scorer, was Freshman of the Week four times in Ramirez and Christian join Lauren Cox and Natalie Chou of Baylor as the only teammates to earn the award this year. RAMIREZ FROM DEEP Ramirez has been a big part of TCU s deep threat, hitting at least one 3-pointer in every game she has played thus far. Ramirez, who came to TCU as the nation s 11th-ranked recruit, has averaged 2.5 made 3-pointers per game. She is shooting 51.3 percent from deep. Ramirez has two double-figure scoring games this season, and they have come over her last three games played. She dropped 19 with five 3-pointers against Butler, and most recently had 12 with four 3-pointers against Texas A&M. Last year at the McDonald s All-American game, Ramirez won the 3-Point Shootout at Powerade Jamfest and also won the Legends and Stars Shootout, hitting a half court shot to win contest for team that included retired WNBA star Candice Wiggins. NEARING 3-POINT RECORDS In its win over SMU, TCU was firing on all cylinders from deep, hitting 15-of-25 3-pointers in the game. The 15 made 3-pointers tied for the second most in TCU program history, just behind the school-record 17 that TCU made in a four-overtime win over East Carolina in Against SMU, the Frogs hit their first nine 3-pointers, nearly match an NCAA record. The national record of 11 consecutive made 3-pointers is actually held by the Frogs who did so against Lamar in TCU s 15 made 3-pointers against the Mustangs are the most in the Big 12 this season. TOE-TO-TOE WITH #1 The final score of TCU s game at No. 1 Notre Dame is very misleading. The Frogs lost, 92-59, but were down just two points, 49-47, with 5:24 to go in the third quarter. Through that time, roughly the first 25 minutes of the game, TCU was shooting 63.3 percent (19-of-30) from the field against the top-ranked Irish. However, the Frogs went on to miss their next 13 field goals over a 12-minute span that ended on an AJ Alix 3-pointer with 3:39 to go in the game. PEBLEY GETS 200 TCU head coach Raegan Pebley won her 200th career game in TCU s win over Alcorn State. Pebley became the sixth of the 10 active Big 12 coaches to reach the 200-win plateau, despite being the second youngest of the 10. The Colorado graduate and standout collected 110 wins in nine seasons at Utah State, 46 in two seasons at Fresno State and has 44 in her third season at TCU. With 44 wins at TCU, Pebley has the fourth most in program history, just ahead of Mike Petersen who took three full seasons ( ) to get to 42 wins. 56 wins at STATISTICAL RANKINGS TEAM RANKINGS (THRU GAMES 1/8) No. Big 12 NCAA Scoring Offense Scoring Defense Scoring Margin FG Pct FG Pct.
