The game will be TCU s final home game, meaning the Frogs will honor their two seniors, Jada Butts and Carol Willie, after the game. The Frogs are coming off of a loss at West Virginia on Wednesday, and prior to that fell to Kansas State, 68-65, at home last Saturday. In Morgantown on Wednesday, TCU trailed by 12 points entering the fourth quarter, but in just four minutes cut the deficit down to two points. The Frogs, however, could never pull even before falling to West Virginia. The Frogs forced WVU into 22 turnovers and grabbed 14 steals, both the most for TCU in Big 12 play this year. AJ Alix led the Frogs with 21 points, five assists and four steals at WVU. Jada Butts added 18 points while Amy Okonkwo had 11 points and nine rebounds. Alix posted her ninth 20-point game of the season with eight of those coming in Big 12 play. In league play, she is averaging 15.4 points per game, ranking sixth in the league. In addition to leading TCU in scoring, Alix leads the team with 4.5 assist per game, ranking sixth in the Big 12. Her 121 assists this season are seven away from entering TCU s single-season top-10 list. Jada Butts is TCU s second leading scorer at 11.8 points per game. She and Carol Willie will play in their final home game for TCU on Saturday and will honored in a ceremony following the game. The Frogs and Sooners haven t met since back on January 1 when Oklahoma won, 87-72, in Norman. That was OU s fifth straight win over TCU. The Frogs are 4-20 all-time against the Sooners with all four wins coming in Fort GAME 28 Date: Saturday, February 25, 2017 Time: 7:00 p.m. CST Location: Fort Worth, Texas Venue: Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena (6,700) TV: FOX Sports Southwest Plus Talent: Chuck LaMendola (PxP), Janice Dziuk (Analyst) Online: FOXSportsGo.com Radio: KTCU 88.7 FM Talent: Jeff Williams (PxP) Online: GoFrogs.com (FrogVision) Live Stats: TCU.StatBroadcast.com SCHEDULE/ RESULTS OVERALL RECORD: Big 12: 4-12 Non-Conference: 8-3 Home: 11-6 Away: 1-9 Neutral: 0-0 NOVEMBER (5-1) Sat. 5 Texas A&M-Commerce (Exh) W Fri. 11 Incarnate Word --- W Tues. 15 Sam Houston State --- W Sun. 20 SMU --- W Tues. 22 Grambling State --- W Sat. 26 at #1/1 Notre Dame ACCN L Wed. 30 Butler FSN W DECEMBER (3-3) Sun. 4 at LSU (1) SECN L Thurs. 8 Texas A&M FS1 L Sun. 11 McNeese --- W Sun. 18 Texas Southern --- W Tues. 20 Alcorn State --- W Thur. 29 #12/12 West Virginia* --- L JANUARY (2-7) Sun. 1 at #24/24 Oklahoma* FS OK L Wed. 4 Oklahoma State* FSSW+ L Sat. 7 at #15/17 Texas* LHN L Wed. 11 at #2/2 Baylor* FSSW L Sun. 15 Iowa State* FSSW/+ W Wed. 18 at #22/- Kansas State* FCS L Sun. 22 Kansas* FSSW W Wed. 25 #12/13 Texas* FSSW+ L Sat. 28 at Iowa State* --- L FEBRUARY (2-4) Sun. 5 at Kansas* JTV W Wed. 8 Texas Tech* FSSW W Sun. 12 #2/5 Baylor* ESPN2 L Wed. 15 at Oklahoma State* FS OK L Sat. 18 #24/- Kansas State* FCS L Wed. 22 at West Virginia* --- L Sat. 25 Oklahoma* FSSW+ 7:00 pm Mon. 27 * FSN 7:00 pm MARCH/APRIL (0-0) Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship (Oklahoma City, Okla.) 3 THE SOONERS Oklahoma comes to TCU after a road loss at Kansas State on Tuesday. The Sooners trailed by 16 at halftime, got the deficit down to one point in the fourth quarter, but never could take the lead. Prior to that loss, OU had won five straight games, including handing Texas its first Big 12 loss last Saturday in Norman. Peyton Little hit a go-ahead three-points with two seconds remaining in that win. Little is the Sooners leading scorer at 13.1 points per game. Maddie Manning is just behind with 12.6 per game and returned from injury against K-State after missing the previous three games. Vionise Pierre-Louis averages 11.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game and has come off the bench in every Big 12 game. SERIES Oklahoma leads the all-time series against TCU, 20-4, including a win earlier this season in Norman, OU has won five straight in the series. The first meeting this season was back on Jan. 1 and TCU led at halftime, but shot just 3-of-18 in the third quarter as Oklahoma quickly erased the deficit. The Sooners oustscored TCU in third, 26-11, and in the entire second half, 50-31, to grab the win. All four of TCU s win in the series have come at home, with the most recent coming in That is TCU s lone win against Oklahoma as a Big 12 member. CONNECTIONS TCU assistant coach Britney Brown played at Oklahoma from Brown was All-Big 12 honorable mention as a junior and helped OU to the NCAA Sweet 16 as a junior and senior. FROGS AT THE LINE TCU has been outstanding from the free throw line, especially lately, having shot 70.0 percent or better in 14 of 16 Big 12 games and 75.0 percent or better in 10 of those. Overall this season, TCU is shooting 73.0 percent as a team, ranking third in the Big 12. However, in Big 12 play, TCU is connecting on 76.7 percent, ranking second. The Frogs aren t doing so on a few attempts per game, TCU is attempting nearly 21 free throws per game in league play, second only to Baylor. TCU made a season-high 29 free throws and tied a season-high with 36 attempts in its home win over Kansas. Of the nine TCU players that average over 10 minutes per game, seven of them shoot 75 percent or better from the free throw line. ED AND RAE SCHOLLMAIER ARENA MOVING THE BALL TCU s 15.6 assists per game rank third in the Big 12. The Frogs assist on 62.6 percent of their made field goals, the second best mark in the Big 12. In fact, only four Big 12 teams are assisting on over 60 percent. TCU started the season with at least 22 assists in each of its first four games. TCU s game-by-game stats are readily available beginning with the season, and since then the Frogs have never had even three straight games with 20-plus assists. SHARP SHOOTERS TCU is shooting 37.1 percent as a team from deep, the 20th best mark in the NCAA. The Frogs 7.6 makes from long range are second in the Big 12 and rank 45th in the NCAA. TCU has seven or more 3-pointers in 20 of 27 games this season. SPREADING THE SHOOTING TCU s efficient 3-point shooting doesn t come from one source. In fact, five Frog regulars shoot near 35.0 percent from long range. CONTINUING THE TREND TCU s 3-point shooting prowess is nothing new. Last season TCU shot 39.1 percent as a team, the sixth best mark in Big 12 history, and the best in over a decade. Team Year 3FG Pct. TCU 73 WEST VIRGINIA 77 TCU fell behind late in the first half, stormed back in the fourth quarter, but the comeback was just short as the Frogs fell to West Virginia, 77-73, at WVU Coliseum on Wednesday night. TCU (12-15, 4-12) was down by 12 points entering the fourth quarter, but in seemingly no time got within one possession. However, TCU could never pull even as West Virginia (19-9, 7-9) held on for the win. AJ Alix led TCU with 21 points, five assists and four steals. 4 BY THE NUMBERS 37.1 TCU is shooting 37.1 percent from 3-point range as a team, ranking 20th in the NCAA, despite making just 5-of-22 against WVU. The Frogs average 7.6 made 3-pointers per game, ranking second in the Big 12. BIG 12 IMPROVEMENT As TCU embarks on the second half of Big 12 play, it will hope history repeats itself. In three of the Frogs previous four season s in the league, TCU had a better second half record than first half record. The lone exception was when TCU was 4-5 in each half. First Nine Second Nine +Wins BUTTS CAREER YEAR Jada Butts comes in as TCU s second leading scorer at 11.8 points per game. She has scored in double figures in 15 games, including a career-high 25 points on just 15 field goal attempts against Iowa State. Not only is Butts leading the Frogs in scoring, she is also second in assists. Here is a look at her senior year stats compared to her first three seasons as a Frog Scoring FG percentage FG percentage FT percentage Rebounding Assists Minutes BUTTS GOOD WORKS NOMINEE TCU senior Jada Butts was named a 2017 Allstate WBCA Good Works Team nominee. Butts and her family created the Aubree Butts Leadership Foundation. It is in honor of her older sister, Aubree, who was a basketball player at Texas A&M-Commerce that was killed in a car accident in June The foundation is an endowment for scholarships for students from Lewisville High School and Westside Baptist Church that have the characteristics that Aubree embodied. Through the foundation, Butts and her family give three $500 scholarships annually. They also support the Lewisville High School non-profit Community in School which gives financial support for rent and groceries to students whose parents are deceased or in desperate need. Butts also organized a basketball camp that was held at Lewisville High School. College and professional athletes provided skills instruction to middle school and high school girls and boys. All proceeds from the camp went to the Aubree Butts Leadership Foundation. ALIX TURNS IT UP TCU junior guard AJ Alix is TCU s leading scorer at 13.3 points per game and also leads the Frogs with 4.5 assists and pointers per game. Her 4.5 assists rank sixth in the Big 12. Her pointers per game rank third, but she has a better percentage than both players in front of her. Alix is shooting 41.4 percent from deep, ranking fourth in the Big 12 and 27th in the NCAA. 22 TCU forced 22 turnovers and grabbed 14 steals against WVU, both the best for the Frogs in a Big 12 game this season. AJ Alix led the way with four steals. Alix has turned up the production in Big 12 play, averaging 15.4 points per game to rank fifth in the league. Alix has scored 20-plus points in nine games this season, including a stretch of four straight in Big 12 play. She was the first Frog with four straight 20-point games since Sandora Irvin did so in January Irvin is the only unanimous All-American and only WNBA Draft pick in TCU history. Big 12 Non-Big 12 Scoring Field goal percentage point percentage FG per game FT percentage Assists CLIMBING 3-POINTER CHARTS AJ Alix, a junior, has moved into eighth on TCU s leaderboard with 147 career 3-pointers. She is now 14 away from moving into seventh place (161, Amy Sutton). Alix s.404 career 3-point percentage is currently third best in TCU history. IMPACT TRANSFER Amy Okonkwo, a sophomore transfer from USC, has made a big impression in her first season as a Frog. She is the Frogs third leading scorer (10.4) and is also second on the team in rebounding (5.3). Okonkwo has been efficient in her offensive efforts as she is shooting 49.8 percent overall (10th in Big 12), 34.0 percent from 3-point range and 78.2 percent from the free throw line (12th in Big 12). OKONKWO S DOUBLE-DOUBLES Okonkwo started her TCU career with 21 points, 10 rebounds and four assists against UIW. She followed that performance up with 12 points, 11 rebounds and four steals against Sam Houston State. Okonkwo is the first Frog with back-to-back doubles since Starr Crawford accomplished the feat against BYU and Utah on February 9 and February 12, Jordan Moore has since accomplished the feat as well. Okonkwo is the first Frog with double-doubles in her first games with TCU since Sandora Irvin did so as a freshman in Okonkwo was the only Big 12 player with a double-double in each of her team s first two games of the season. She now has three double-doubles this season after recording a career-high 24 points and 10 rebounds against Kansas State. OKONKWO GOES PERFECT Amy Okonkwo led TCU with 18 points against Grambling on a perfect 8-of-8 shooting from the field. Her eight shots without a miss broke the TCU record. 5 WHAT TO WATCH FOR With two regular-season games remaining, TCU sits in a tie for eighth in the Big 12 standings with Texas Tech. The Frogs can t finish any higher than seventh place, meaning they will to play in the Big 12 Championships first round on Friday, March 3. TCU has lost five straight games against Oklahoma. The Frogs are 4-20 all-time against the Sooners, but all four wins have come in Fort Worth. TCU has made at least seven 3-pointers in 20 of 27 games this season. The Frogs have shot over 75.0 percent from the free throw line in 10 of their 16 Big 12 games. The Frogs have hit 70.0 percent or better in 14 of the 16 conference games. AJ Alix has nine 20-point games this season with eight coming in Big 12 play. With 121 assists this season, Alix has the 13th most assists in a single-season in TCU history. She is seven assists from moving into the top 10 and 10 more assists would catapult her to eighth place. Alix is also 13th in TCU history with 65 made 3-pointers this season. She is five away from moving into the top 10 in that category. Jordan Moore is one block away from becoming the fourth player in TCU history with 100 career blocks. NO SOPHOMORE SLUMP After a successful freshman season, Jordan Moore has only improved as a sophomore. The Round Rock, Texas native has upped all of her numbers from a season ago. She is 10th in the league in rebounding with 6.7 boards per game and 12th with a.489 field goal percentage. Moore is also averaging 8.5 points per game. Here is a look at her stats as a sophomore and a freshman Scoring FG percentage Rebounding Blocked shots Twice this season she tied a career-high with 16 points (Texas A&M, at Oklahoma), then Moore topped the mark with 18 points at Kansas. Moore has posted five double-doubles, including in backto-back games against Kansas and Texas Tech. MOORE S 16 BOARDS Jordan Moore grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds in TCU s home win over Kansas, part of TCU s season-high 52 rebounds in the game. At the time, Moore s 16 boards were the most by any player in a Big 12 game this season. The 16 rebounds were the most by a Horned Frog since Latricia Lovings posted 16 at Kansas State on Jan. 5, MOORE PROTECTING PAINT Jordan Moore leads TCU and ranks 11th in the Big 12 with 1.6 blocks per game. She has 99 career blocks, already the fourth most in TCU history for the sophomore. Her 58 blocks and 1.76 per game last season ranked fifth in the Big 12, and first among freshmen. Moore s 58 blocks were the eighth most in a single season in TCU history, and the second most by a freshman, behind only Sandora Irvin who finished her career as the NCAA s all-time leader. RAMIREZ RETURNS After missing seven games with injury, including TCU s first four Big 12 games, Amber Ramirez returned at Baylor where she scored eight points in 14 minutes. Ramirez has played in 11 games since her return, scoring in double figures four times including a team-high 15 vs. Texas. RAMIREZ FROM DEEP Overall this season, Ramirez is shooting 38.9 percent (35-of-90) from 3-point range. That is the second best mark among Big 12 freshmen, despite Ramirez having nearly twice as many attempts as every other freshman. Ramirez s 38.9 percent mark would rank ninth in the Big 12, but because of her injury she doesn t meet the minimum number of games played (75 percent of team s games). If Ramirez doesn t miss any more games, she will qualify for the league leaderboard after TCU s final regular season game. Ramirez has made a 3-pointer in 16 of her 20 games this season. RAMIREZ NO STRANGER TO TREYS TCU, and the nation, knew that Ramirez was a serious 3-point threat before she got on campus. Last year at the McDonald s All-American game, Ramirez won the 3-Point Shootout at Powerade Jamfest and also won the Legends and Stars Shootout, hitting a half court shot to win for a team that included retired WNBA star Candice Wiggins. FRESHMAN RANKINGS Ramirez and Ray are two of the top ranking Big 12 freshmen in many statistical categories. Below is a list of every category in which at least one is among the top five. 6 FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK...TWICE A pair of TCU freshmen have been honored by the Big 12 this season with Amber Ramirez earned Freshman of the Week honors on December 5 and Mikayla Christian earning the same award on December 27. Ramirez averaged 12.5 points per game that week, including 19 against Butler with 5-of-8 made from deep. Christian had a very similar 19 points with 5-of-7 from deep against Alcorn State to earn her award. Ramirez was the first Frog to earn the award since Zahna Medley, TCU s all-time leading scorer, was Freshman of the Week four times in Ramirez and Christian join Lauren Cox and Natalie Chou of Baylor as the only teammates to earn the award this year. BIG INDIVIDUAL NUMBERS VS TECH In its win against Texas Tech, TCU had some standout individual performances. Jada Butts scored a game-high 23 points and post a career-high 10 rebounds for her first career double. AJ Alix was just behind in scoring with 20 points and also dished out a season-high nine assists. Jordan Moore added TCU s second double-double with 11 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks. Butts and Moore became the first TCU teammates with double-doubles in the same game in nearly seven years Delisa Gross and Helena Sverrisdottir did so in the first round of the 2011 WNIT. (vs. Oral Roberts; Mar. 17, 2011). Butts and Alix became the first TCU teammates to scored 20 points in the same game since three Frogs, including Butts, did so in the first round of the 2015 WNIT (vs. Stephen F. Austin; Mar. 19, 2015). PLUS-20 BOARDS In its win at Kansas, TCU was dominant on the glass, posting a advantage over the Jayhawks on the glass. The plus-20 rebounding margin was TCU s best in a Big 12 game in its five-year history in the league. The plus-20 was TCU s second best mark this season, behind only a plus-28 margin against Alcorn State. THE JOURNEY TO AMES TCU had a very unique trip to Ames, Iowa for its game at Iowa State last weekend. The game was originally scheduled to be played at 12 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, but was rescheduled to 5 p.m. The change was made late on Friday night after mechanical problems made it impossible for TCU s plane to depart Fort Worth. The Frogs caught a commercial flight on Saturday morning, arrived in Des Moines, Iowa, at 12:30 p.m. and made it to Ames at 2 p.m., just three hours before tipoff. While waiting at Meacham International Airport in Fort Worth on Friday night for the plane to be hopefully repaired, the Frogs ran into NBA legend Magic Johnson. Johnson stopped and talked to the Frogs for nearly 10 minutes, offering up advice from his illustrious career. COMEBACK WIN The Frogs grabbed their first Big 12 win with an win over Iowa State at home three weeks ago. TCU trailed by 11 points and halftime and by 13 early in the third quarter, but exploded from there. TCU used a 14-0 run in the third quarter to take a fourpoint lead, then never trailed again. In all, TCU scored 53 second-half points, including 29 in the third quarter. TCU was 0-of-5 from deep at halftime, but hit 8-of-12 in the second half. Overall, the Frogs shot 60 percent (18-of- 30) in the second half to tie a season high with 53 points. 6 AJ Alix scored all 13 of her points in the second half. Toree Thompson scored 12 of her 14 in the last 20 minutes and Jada Butts scored 14 of her career-high 25 points. ON THE GLASS WITH BAYLOR In its loss at No. 2 Baylor, TCU was even in the rebounding battle with the Bears, Baylor entered the game leading the NCAA with a rebounding margin and had outrebounded every previous opponent this season. TCU also held the Bears to 77 points, nearly 20 under their NCAA-leading 94 per game coming in. The 77 points were the second fewest scored by Baylor at that point in the season, second only to the 61 they scored at UConn. TOUGH OPENING SLATE TCU s win over Iowa State came on the heels of a very tough schedule to open Big 12 play as the Frogs played four of the conference s ranked teams in their first five games. TCU played three of the four ranked teams on the road. With it s game at No. 22 Kansas State last week, all four of TCU s road league games have been at ranked teams with visits to Oklahoma, Texas and Baylor coming previously. DOUBLE-DIGIT TREYS TCU has made 10 or more 3-pointers four times this season, including a season-high 15 in its win over SMU which is still the most in the Big 12 this seasoning. The Frogs made exactly 10 3-pointers in back-to-back games at Oklahoma and at home against Oklahoma State. That was only the second time under Raegan Pebley that TCU has made 10 3-pointers in back-to-back games. The other instance came in the first and second rounds of the 2016 WNIT. NEARING 3-POINT RECORDS In its win over SMU, TCU was firing on all cylinders from deep, hitting 15-of-25 3-pointers in the game. The 15 made 3-pointers tied for the second most in TCU program history, just behind the school-record 17 that TCU made in a four-overtime win over East Carolina in Against SMU, the Frogs hit their first nine 3-pointers, nearly matching an NCAA record. The national record of 11 consecutive made 3-pointers is actually held by the Frogs who did so against Lamar in FROGS ADD TRANSFER WOODS TCU made an addition to its roster in January, adding freshman transfer Jayde Woods who comes to Fort Worth after playing in 10 games as a true freshman earlier this season at Oregon. A 6-foot-1 guard, Woods averaged 11.8 minutes per game in her 10 games for the Ducks, scoring a total of 23 points. A native of Los Angeles, Woods starred at Windward High School and was part of a seven-player Oregon recruiting class that ranked No. 3 in the nation. Woods was rated a four-star recruit by Prospects Nation and ranked as the No. 78 player in the nation. She was a three-star recruit by ESPN and the No. 70 player in the nation by Blue Star Basketball. TOE-TO-TOE WITH #1 The final score of TCU s game at No. 1 Notre Dame is very misleading. The Frogs lost, 92-59, but were down just two points, 49-47, with 5:24 to go in the third quarter. Through that time, roughly the first 25 minutes of the game, TCU was shooting 63.3 percent (19-of-30) from the field against the top-ranked Irish. However, the Frogs went on to miss their next 13 field goals over a 12-minute span that ended on an AJ Alix 3-pointer with 3:39 to go in the game. PEBLEY GETS 200 TCU head coach Raegan Pebley won her 200th career game in TCU s win over Alcorn State. Pebley became the sixth of the 10 active Big 12 coaches to reach the 200-win plateau, despite being the second youngest of the 10. The Colorado graduate and standout collected 110 wins in nine seasons at Utah State, 46 in two seasons at Fresno State and has 46 in her third season at TCU. With 48 wins in three seasons at TCU, Pebley has the fourth most in program history, ahead of Mike Petersen who took three full seasons ( ) to get to 42 wins. 56 wins at TCU would get Pebley into third place with Kenneth Davis who won 56 in four seasons ( ). FRESH FIVE TCU s group of five freshmen come to Fort Worth as the highest-rated recruiting class in TCU history. The Frogs class was ranked as high as ninth in the nation by two major recruiting services. The Frogs also have just two seniors, a mark that ties for the fewest Big 12. In total, TCU s roster has won 13 letters with the Frogs, another number that ties with Oklahoma State and Texas Tech for the second fewest in the Big 12. Only West Virginia with 11 combined letters has less experience returning on its team. RAMIREZ MAKING TCU HISTORY Freshman Amber Ramirez has already made history at TCU as she is the first McDonald s All-American to sign with the Frogs in either women s or men s basketball. As the No. 11 overall recruit in the nation, Ramirez is the second-highest rated recruit in TCU history, behind only Sandora Irvin who came in as No. 6 in Irvin went on to be the only unanimous All-American in program history and the only WNBA Draft pick in TCU history. RAMIREZ WITH USA BASKETBALL Freshman Amber Ramirez is coming off of a busy summer that included winning two medals with USA Basketball. First, Ramirez was the captain of USA Basketball s U18 3x3 World Championships Team that took a silver medal at the FIBA World Championships in Kazakhstan. Ramirez then won a gold medal with the USA Basketball U18 National Team at the FIBA Americas U18 Championships in Chile. In that tournament, Ramirez averaged 10.8 points int the USA s five games, all wins by at least 20 points.
