OU TCU travels north to Norman, Okla., for its first Big 12 meeting with Oklahoma on Monday at the Sooners Lloyd Noble Center. The matchup, which will be televised live by ESPNU, is set to tip off at 6 p.m. TCU (10-13 overall; 1-9 Big 12) looks to get back on the winning track following a Saturday home setback to West Virginia. The Horned Frogs will shoot for their first Big 12 road win after gaining their first conference home victory Wednesday vs. No. 5 Kansas. Oklahoma (15-7; 6-4 Big 12) enters the matchup riding high after snapping a two-game losing streak Saturday with a home victory of its own against the Jayhawks, The Sooners are in a three-way tie for fourth place in the league standings. OU and TCU will meet for the 13th time on the hardwood and the first time since a home-and-home series played in 2006 and The Sooners lead the all-time series, ESPNU (DirecTV 208; Dish 141) will televise Monday s contest with the broadcast duo of Dave Armstrong (play-by-play) and Bryndon Manzer (analyst) calling the action. The telecast also will be offered online at WatchESPN.com to qualified cable subscribers. Brian Estridge (pxp) and John Denton (analyst) will handle the TCU-IMG Sports Network radio broadcast, which will air live in the DFW Metroplex on both 570 KLIF AM and 88.7 FM KTCU. The facility is located on the southwest side of campus on Stadium Drive, next to Amon G. Carter Stadium. The physical address is 2900 South Stadium Drive. Parking spaces for working media are limited in the DMC lot. Ample media parking is available in Lot 3, which is located north of Amon G. Carter Stadium. TCU ON TELEVISION All but two of TCU s regular-season games will be televised this season, including each of the squad s 18 home games. Eleven of the contests will be aired on FOX Sports Southwest as part of the Frogs third-tier rights agreement through the Big 12 television contract. Second-year head coach Lon Kruger directs a Sooners group that returned all five starters from last season s team that posted a overall record and eighth-place finish in the Big 12 (5-11). Senior forward Romero Osby leads OU in both scoring average (13.9 ppg) and rebounding (6.6 rpg). He ranks No. 9 and No. 11 in the Big 12 in the respective categories. Senior guard Steven Pledger (10.9 ppg) and junior forward Amath M Baye (10.4 ppg) also average double figures in points. Pledger is No. 5 in the league in 3-pointers (1.3 3pg). Oklahoma is among the nation s leaders in 3-point field-goal defense (No. 57; 31.0%), free-throw percentage (No. 60; 72.9%) and offensive rebounding (No. 77; 12.5 rpg). The squad ranks No. 6 in the Big 12 in both scoring offense (67.6 ppg) and scoring margin (+4.0 ppg). OU jumped on top from the game s outset, posting a 14-4 advantage in the first five-plus minutes. The squad led by 18 at intermission, 45-27, and shot a sizzling 54.7% from the floor for the game. The Sooners also went 12-of-23 (52.2%) from beyond the arc while holding TCU to only 35.4% overall shooting for the contest. Joining Crocker atop the Oklahoma scoring chart were freshman Blake Griffin (15) and guard Austin Jackson (13). Guard Henry Salter led the Frogs scoring efforts with 18 points that included a 5-of-6 showing from 3-point range. Forward Kevin Langford added 11 points for TCU. LAST TIME OUT: WEST VIRGINIA 63, TCU 50 *Box score available on page 27 Kyan Anderson scored a team-high 16 points, but West Virginia stepped up its defensive game plan in the second half to defeat TCU at the DMC on Saturday, TCU recorded one of its best shooting halves of the season in the opening period but still found itself trailing by three at intermission due to an aggressive WVU defense that forced the Frogs into 12 turnovers. The Frogs kept themselves in the game by making 9-of-15 field goals in the half, good for a 60.0% clip, while posting a 16-5 rebounding edge. TCU s offensive success would not last, as WVU switched to a zone defensive scheme in the second half that stifled the Frogs efforts. The Mountaineers held TCU to only 25.0% shooting following intermission. The Frogs briefly regained a one-point edge following halftime by scoring the first four points of the period, but WVU had the answer that put it back in front for good. The Mountaineers responded with an 11-2 run to move back in front by eight, then another 9-1 later in the half to push ahead by 11, Harris sank 3-pointers to conclude both runs. Anderson led TCU s scoring attack with a 7-of-12 shooting performance. Connell Crossland also reached double figures for the third time in the last five games with a career-high 13 points and added a game-high nine rebounds, while Nate Butler Lind continued the best offensive stretch of his career with nine points on 3-of-7 shooting. 5 CROSSLAND CLOSING CAREER STRONG Connell Crossland has always been a steady player for TCU since arriving on campus in , but he has taken his game to another level since the start of the Big 12 schedule. 4Crossland is fifth on the team in scoring and second in rebounding despite starting only eight of 22 contests. He is No. 14 in the Big 12 in rebounding. 4Since the start of the Big 12 schedule, Crossland leads TCU in rebounding and is No. 7 in the Big 12. He is the team s fourth-leading scorer in league play. 4Crossland is in the midst of the best stretch of his career, having combined for 52 points over the past five games while averaging 9.4 rebounds. 4Crossland set a new career scoring high during the home loss to West Virginia with 13 points. He made 7-of-9 free-throw attempts, also personal bests, and led TCU on the glass for a third straight game with nine boards. 4Crossland provided TCU with a huge performance during the previous game, a home win over No. 5 Kansas, by totaling a career-high 15 boards to go with eight points. It was his second straight game with at least 12 rebounds. 4The effort vs. Kansas marked Crossland s team-high fourth this season, and fifth in his career, with at least 10 boards. 4Crossland scored 10-plus points in back-to-back games for the first time in his career Jan. 23 at West Virginia (11) and Jan. 26 vs. Baylor (12). 4Crossland has scored at least eight points 11 times compared to only three times all of last season. MCKINNEY STEPPING UP DOWN LOW Adrick McKinney looks essentially like a new player on the court for TCU in his second and final season as a Horned Frog. 4McKinney leads TCU in rebounding (No. 9 in Big 12) and is No. 3 on the team in scoring average. He tops the team in scoring since the start of Big 12 play and is No. 3 in the conference in offensive rebounding in league action. 4McKinney has led TCU on the glass a team-high 11 times, each in the last 17 games. He had paced the squad only five times in 37 career contests entering the current stretch. 4McKinney has already set personal bests this season for points, rebounds and blocked shots in a season. 4McKinney has pulled in at least five boards in each of the last 17 contests, the longest streak for a Frog since (Zvonko Buljan, 24 straight). 4McKinney s breakout performance came in TCU s home loss to Houston, when he recorded a 10-point, 20-rebound effort. The 20 boards are tied for the most by a Big 12 player this season (Isaiah Austin, Baylor) and were the most by a Frog since Jamal Brown had 26 during a Dec. 23, 2001 win over North Texas. 4McKinney set a new scoring high during the Jan. 16 home loss to Kansas State, leading TCU with 18 points. He went 6-of- 8 from the floor and added a team-high nine rebounds. 4McKinney has scored at least seven points in 15 of the last 17 games. He only had two such efforts in the first six games. 4McKinney leads TCU with two double-doubles this season and three in his career. ANDERSON DIRECTS OFFENSIVE ATTACK Kyan Anderson has continued to progress in his second year on the Frogs roster after posting one of the best campaigns for a Frog freshman in recent memory last season. 4Anderson has been TCU s on-court leader throughout the season, pacing the squad in scoring, 3-pointers, assists, steals and minutes played. 4Anderson also tops the team in double-figure scoring efforts (11) and ranks No. 2 in games leading the team in scoring (six). His 13 games pacing TCU in assists are three times more than any other Frog. 4Anderson ranks among the Big 12 leaders in steals (No. 6), minutes played (No. 7), assists (No. 8), assist/turnover ratio (No. 9) and scoring (No. 18). 4Anderson led TCU with 16 points during its most recent outing Saturday vs. West Virginia. It was his top scoring effort since totaling 19 during the Jan. 23 road loss at WVU. 4Anderson scored 20 points or more in three straight games between Nov. 24 and Dec. 4, becoming the first Frog with three such consecutive outings since Corey Santee scored 20 in four straight during the season. 4Anderson totaled a career-high 35 points during a victory over UAB on Nov. 24 at the South Padre Invitational to help earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team. 4The 35-point effort figure is the No. 1 figure this season for a Big 12 player and also marked the top scoring game for a Frog since Kevin Langford totaled 36 vs. Wyoming on Jan. 21, Anderson has played in every game since he arrived on campus and leads TCU with a streak of 45 consecutive starts. 4Anderson was among the watch list of candidates for the 2013 Bob Cousy Award honoring the nation s top point guard. 4Anderson was named 2012 Mountain West Freshman of the Year, becoming the first Frog to win such an award since Damion Walker was the 1996 Southwest Conference honoree. 4Anderson s 22 starts were the most for a TCU freshman since Femi Ibikunle totaled 28 in , while his 90 assists were the most since Corey Santee s 180 in BUTLER LIND RAISES HIS GAME Nate Butler Lind has proven to be an important under-theradar player for TCU this season. 4Butler Lind, who has started 17 of the 22 games in which he has played, ranks No. 2 on the team in assists, No. 3 in minutes played and No. 6 in scoring. 4Butler Lind currently is in one of the best offensive stretches of his career. He has matched his career scoring high with 10 points in two of the past four games, including the recent victory over No. 5 Kansas for the third time this season. 4Butler Lind s scoring average has nearly doubled from last season, when he averaged just 2.6 ppg. He ranks No. 7 all-time at TCU in both career games and minutes played (2,994). 4Green became the 31st member of the Frogs 1,000-point club during the Jan. 9 road loss at Oklahoma State on a jumper late in the first half. It was part of a performance that saw him score 20 of TCU s 45 points against the Cowboys. 4Green also recorded his 400th career rebound earlier this season vs. Mississippi Valley State (Dec. 30). He is just the 20th Frog with 1,000 points and 400 boards. 4Green is No. 2 on the team this season in scoring average and No. 4 in rebounding. He has started all 23 contests and owns an active streak of 101 consecutive games played. 4Green has recorded five of the eight 20-plus point performances of his career this season. 4Green was instrumental in TCU s Feb. 6 home win over No. 5 Kansas, scoring a game-high 20 points. The game marked his 100th consecutive appearance as a Frog. 4Green put together the best stretch of his career between road matchups at Tulsa (Dec. 8) and Oklahoma State (Jan. 9), averaging a team-high 18.4 ppg over six games. He led TCU in points four games and scored at least 20 three times. 4Green s play has spiked this season after moving outside the arc in TCU s lineup. He played the forward position in TCU s opening nine games before sliding into the No. 3 spot. Green averaged just 7.8 ppg prior to the move. 4Green is 19-of-46 (.413) on 3-point attempts since moving outside after starting the season 0-for-5. He hit his 100th career trey during the Dec. 18 home win over Southern. 4Green put up a career-best 31 points in the Dec. 22 win at Rice. He broke his previous high of 24 set exactly one year earlier during a Dec. 22, 2011 home win over Grambling State. The effort against the Owls ranks as the fourth-best scoring output by a Big 12 player this season. 4The only player on this year s roster with more than two years in the program, Green was named a team co-captain in the preseason along with teammate Amric Fields. He was the team s leading returning scorer each of the last two seasons. KING OF THE HILL, JR. True freshman Charles Hill Jr., who made only one appearance in TCU s opening seven contests, has burst onto the scene with the start of the Big 12 season. 4Hill has made five starts at shooting guard for TCU in conference play and is No. 4 among Frogs in minutes played in Big 12 action at 25.2 mpg. He played only 29 minutes all season entering the current stretch. 4Hill has scored 43 of his 48 points in Big 12 action. He has led TCU twice in the category and is No. 7 on the team in scoring average during conference play. 4Hill earned his first career start in TCU s Jan. 12 matchup at Baylor, leading the squad with career highs in both points (12) and rebounds (eight). He played 38 minutes, matching Kyan Anderson for the team lead. 4Hill saw his first major action in TCU s Jan. 9 loss at Oklahoma State, scoring what was then his career best of five points in 24 minutes off the bench. ABRON HAS ARRIVED Newcomer Devonta Abron has teamed with returning starter Adrick McKinney to provide TCU with a physical presence on the interior this season. 4Abron leads TCU this season in blocked shots and field-goal percentage, is No. 3 in rebounding and No. 4 in scoring. 4Abron s current individual field-goal percentage of 54.6% would rank just outside the top-10 seasons in TCU history. 4Abron has led TCU four times this season in scoring, third on the team, and three times in rebounding, which ranks fourth. 4Abron has held his own inside in Big 12 play against some much larger frontcourts. He has three double-figure efforts and is tied for No. 15 in blocked shots during league action. 4Abron led TCU with 16 points and a career-high four blocked shots during the Jan. 5 Big 12 opener vs. Texas Tech. The four blocks marked the most for a Frog since the season. 4Abron burst onto the scene this season with a solid fivegame stretch that saw him score in double figures four times. 4He averaged 11.8 ppg during the stretch, shot 71.9% from the floor (23-of-32) and pulled down 7.8 rpg. He opened the season with figures of 3.0 ppg, 3.7 rpg and 33.3% in the first three games. 4Abron set a new career scoring high with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting during the Nov. 29 win over Southern Utah. 4Abron recorded his first double-double Nov. 20 vs. Navy, matching a career high with 13 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. 4Abron is no stranger to high-level competition. He transferred to TCU this past offseason after making 22 starts as a true freshman for Arkansas in He led the Razorbacks in rebounding for the season. 4A prized recruit in high school, Abron was a Parade All- American as a senior at Dallas Seagoville High School. FROGS HIT HARD BY INJURIES Jarvis Ray became the third different Frog to fall to a major injury during the Dec. 18 home win over Southern, joining Amric Fields and Aaron Durley, who are both out for the season. 4Ray experienced an injury to his left foot that will sideline him until at least late February. He suffered the injury landing on a Southern player s foot on a jump shot late in the game. 4Ray had played in 10 of TCU s first 11 games with nine starts. He ranked fifth on the team in scoring and third in assists at the time of his injury. 4Ray scored 56 points for TCU this season after having only 62 points in 39 games entering the year. He reached double figures in points in games No. 2-4, including a career-high 14 points vs. SMU (Nov. 15). He had scored 10 points or more just one time in his career prior to the stretch. 4It wasn t just been Ray s offensive efforts that TCU misses. He also leads the team with six opponent charge fouls drawn. 4Fields suffered a major knee injury just 12 seconds into TCU s home matchup with SMU in the third game of the season. The injury happened on a non-contact play in which he caught the ball running across the lane and attempted to make a cut toward the hoop. 4Big things were expected of Fields after he became TCU s first-ever conference sixth man of the year last season as a sophomore. He underwent knee surgery on Dec. 14. The No. 27 player in Texas and a three-star recruit according to Rivals.com, he was a two-time all-district honoree who averaged 16.0 points and 3.1 steals per game while leading the Bulldogs to a 30-5 record and league championship as a senior. 4Durley also suffered a major knee injury on another noncontact play in preseason workouts, experiencing the setback after coming down with a rebound. Durley underwent surgery and will redshirt this season. He was looked at as an important addition to the Frogs frontcourt in the offseason. BIG // #6

7 DEFENSE IS KEY IN TCU has made major strides in improving its defensive play this season after struggling in the area in TCU is No. 2 in the Big 12 and No. 26 in the NCAA in opponent scoring average (58.5 ppg). KU went was only 3-of-22 on 3-point attempts. 4KU s shooting rate was its lowest in a game since the season, while the 17 field goals were its fewest since The Jayhawks 13 first-half points marked their fewest in any half since the school began tracking such records in TCU forced a season-high 24 turnovers during the Jan. 9 loss at Oklahoma State. The Cowboys previous high for miscues this season was 17. 4TCU allowed 50 points or fewer five times in non-conference play. Its five previous efforts stretched back over the previous 127 games back to The 39 points scored by Prairie View A&M on Nov. 18 marked the fewest for a Frog opponent since Colgate had 37 on Dec. 30, 2008 RANKED TEAMS BEWARE TCU has experienced recent success against ranked opponents, especially in games played at the DMC. 4TCU has won three of its last five meetings with ranked teams stretching back to last season. One of the two losses came in overtime. 4TCU is 1-1 this season against ranked squads, downing No. 5/5 Kansas (62-55) on Feb. 6 and falling to No. 16/18 Kansas State (67-54) on Jan TCU won two-straight matchups against top-20 foes last season in February home dates with No. 11/14 UNLV (102-97) and No. 18/21 New Mexico (83-64). It marked the first time in history the Frogs had defeated top-20 teams in succession. 4The Frogs nearly made it three wins in a row over ranked teams last season, dropping a decision to No. 21/23 San Diego State in their regular-season finale at home. SELLING OUT THE DMC TCU set a new single-game attendance record at 52-year-old Daniel Meyer Coliseum during its Feb. 6 victory over Kansas with a figure of 7,412. 4The sellout marked the 37th for a TCU men s game at Daniel- Meyer Coliseum. It broke the previous men s attendance mark of 7,267 set against No. 1 Kansas on Dec. 1, The previous attendance record for any game was set earlier this season when 7,394 fans showed up to see the TCU women s team play No. 1 Baylor. 4The victory against Kansas boosted TCU s all-time record in sold-out DMC games to For a full list of sellouts in the building s history, see the sidebar on page 9. FROGS REACHING THE LINE TCU has had success reaching the charity stripe this season, especially in Big 12 action. 4Overall this season, TCU has attempted 74 more free throws than its opponents, an average margin of +3.2 pg. 4TCU has seen even more opportunities since the start of Big 12 play, attempting 208 free throws compared to its opponents 157, an average margin of +5.1 pg. 4TCU has finished its conference schedule with more freethrow attempts than opponents only once since TCU still has work to do in taking advantage of the opportunities, ranking last in the Big 12 in free-throw shooting overall and in league games. KEEPING IT CLOSE TCU has made a habit of playing it close this season, with 10 games being decided by seven points or fewer. 4TCU has erased second-half deficits in six of its 10 wins. 4TCU overcame a 14-point deficit in its Nov. 18 win over Prairie View A&M, the fifth time since the start of last season the squad won after trailing by double digits. 4TCU led the nation last season with a school-record 13 wins coming by six points or fewer. A GLANCE BACK AT TCU is trying to build off its most successful season in several years, as the Frogs overall record in marked the program s first winning season since (21-14). 4The 18 wins were four more than in any year since TCU finished fifth in the Mountain West with a 7-7 league record. The wins total matched the team s most conference victories in its seven MW seasons despite playing two fewer league games (14) than in previous years (16). 4The team s CBI appearance marked its first national postseason tournament since an NIT quarterfinals run in The 14-3 home record matched the program s best since a 15-1 mark in JOHNSON TAKES PROGRAM REIGNS New head coach Trent Johnson brought an impressive resume with him to TCU, having served previous stints as head coach at Nevada ( ), Stanford ( ) and LSU ( ). 4Johnson has posted winning marks in each of his three previous head coaching stops at Nevada (79-74), Stanford (80-47) and LSU (67-64). 4Johnson has been named coach of the year in each of the three leagues in which he has worked: the WAC (2003), Pac-10 (2008) and SEC (2009). 4Johnson has guided teams to eight postseason tournament appearances in his 13 seasons, including five NCAA Tournament bids. He led both Nevada (2004) and Stanford (2008) to the Sweet 16. 4Johnson has a history of producing talented players. Two of his pupils (Kirk Snyder-2004 Nevada; Marcus Thornton-2009 LSU) were named conference player of the year. He has seen nine players reach the NBA during his head coaching career. 4TCU fans may remember Johnson from his time as head coach at Nevada, which the Frogs shared WAC membership with during the season. TCU was 2-0 against Johnson s Wolf Pack team during his second year in Reno. ABOUT THE STAFF Arriving at TCU alongside Trent Johnson were four new staff members, assistant coaches Donny Guerinoni, Brent Scott and Pooh Williamson and director of operations Chris Tifft. 4Guerinoni owns a long association with Johnson dating back to his days as a Nevada player from 1999 through 2001, when he was the first recruit to sign with Johnson s Wolf Pack program. 4Following his playing days, Guerinoni later followed Johnson to Stanford, serving as the Director of Basketball Operations from 2004 through 2006 before being elevated to an assistant coach for two seasons ( ). He spent the last four seasons on Johnson s LSU staff as an assistant coach from 2008 through Scott also arrived at TCU from LSU, where he served on Johnson s staff all four seasons. Prior to his time at LSU, he was an assistant for one year at his alma mater, Rice. Scott s connection to Johnson dates back to his playing days, when Johnson was an assistant coach with the Owls. 4Scott put together a long professional run following college that saw him play for 16 different teams and in eight different leagues in five countries over 14 years. He reached the NBA with the Indiana Pacers in Williamson, who owns 16 years experience as a college coach, joined the TCU staff following one season at SMU. He has been a part of coaching staffs that have guided teams to seven NCAA Tournament bids in the last 11 years. 4In addition to his time at SMU, Williamson also served stints at Texas A&M ( ), Wichita State ( ), Tulsa ( ), Tulane ( ), Illinois State ( ) and Washington State ( ). He was a four-year letterwinner for Tulsa from 1991 through Tifft joined the TCU staff from the junior college ranks, having he served the previous eight seasons as a head coach at New Mexico Junior College and Lamar (Colo.) Community College. 4Tifft also held prior ties to Johnson, having served as an assistant coach on Johnson s Nevada staff during his first two seasons in Reno from 1999 through TCU defeated a pair of top-20 foes in the same season for the first time in program history in wins vs. No. 11 UNLV and No. 18 New Mexico. 9 FAMILY TIES The Frogs have five players with family ties to professional and collegiate backgrounds in Garlon Green, Thomas Montigel, Connell Crossland, Nate Butler Lind and Kemal Dincer. 4Green s brother, Gerald Jr., went directly from high school to the NBA and was drafted by the Boston Celtics with the 18th overall selection in the 2005 NBA Draft. Green signed to play for the Indiana Pacers in the 2012 offseason. 4Montigel s father, Bill, is in his 23rd season as TCU s men s golf coach. Prior to his current role, he served eight seasons as an assistant basketball coach and top recruiter at TCU under legendary former head coach Jim Killingsworth. 4Several of Bill Montigel s recruits were key performers on the Frogs back-to-back Southwest Conference championship teams in 1986 and 1987, including TCU Hall of Famer Jaime Dixon, who is now the head coach at Pitt. 4Crossland s cousin is 12-year NBA veteran Larry Hughes, who played college ball one year for St. Louis before being taken No. 8 overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1998 NBA Draft. Hughes most recently played for the Charlotte Bobcats. 4Butler Lind's father, Mario Butler, was an eighth-round selection in the 1979 NBA Draft by Golden State before later becoming a legend in South American basketball while playing professionally in Puerto Rico. 4Butler Lind s sister, Jessica, played college basketball for Canisius from 1998 through Dincer hails from a notable family on the Turkish basketball scene, as both his father (Kemal) and grandfather (Altan) played for the Turkish National Team and won national championships with club team Fenerbahce. His father currently is the general manager for Fenerbahce. INCREASED EXPOSURE TCU will play on television a school-record 29 times during its 31-game regular-season schedule following the addition of 11 telecasts in conjunction with the school s exclusive deal with Fox Sports Net that was announced in September. All TCU non-conference home games, as well as its Big 12 home matchups against Texas Tech (Jan. 5) and Oklahoma (March 9), will be carried on FOX Sports Southwest as part of TCU s third-tier broadcast rights granted through the new Big 12 television contract. In addition to its home FSSW contests, the Frogs will have nine conference games carried on the Big 12 Network syndicated package, four on ESPNU, and one each one ESPN2 and Texas Longhorn network. TCU will play an additional FSSW road game at Tulsa, while its fourth and final contest in the South Padre Island Invitational against either Illinois State or UAB will be broadcast by CBS Sports Network. TCU regrouped from a slow offensive start to hold off the Mustangs, who lead for nearly the entire first half and by as many as five in the frame. The Frogs dominated inside during the win, posting big advantages on the boards and scoring in the paint. TCU opened up a 16-point lead by halftime and never looked back, building an edge as large as 31 points late in the contest. The game was a tight affair in the first 10 minutes before TCU went on a 14-1 run to take control. TCU added another impressive run midway through the second half to put the game out of reach, scoring 12 straight points over a 3:45 stretch. Garlon Green scored 20 points to lead the Frogs after the squad lost Amric Fields to a knee injury early. TCU trailed for the entire game and by as many as 11 points midway through the second half before making a run at SMU. The squad posted a 13-5 spurt thanks in part to three Green field goals to cut the deficit to only three points, 54-51, with 4:27 remaining. SMU remained in front by turning up the defensive effort, holding TCU to only three buckets down the stretch. TCU did have one last opportunity, getting the ball back with under seven seconds left following four straight missed SMU free throws. TCU struggled out of the gate, falling behind 14-0 in the game s opening six minutes while the Panthers hit four of their first five field-goal attempts. The Frogs chipped away at the lead from there, relying on defense to keep the Panthers within check. The squad held Prairie View without a basket and to only six free throws for the final 14:06 of the first half. The second half started much like the first for TCU, as Prairie View jumped back out to a nine-point lead. Kyan Anderson got the rally moving with a 3-pointer to start a crucial 14-2 run. He finished the spurt with his second trey to give the Frogs their largest lead at with 6:06 remaining. The Panthers would tie the contest again at 35-all before another big play by Anderson, who laid the ball in off a nice feed from senior guard Nate Butler Lind. Devonta Abron posted his first career double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Frogs. Trailing by five points early in the second half, Abron began to make his imposing presence felt in the paint. He scored seven points in a five-and-ahalf minute stretch early in the stanza to put TCU up buy two, Abron later started a key 6-0 run with 4:36 remaining with another basket inside, while Jarvis Ray added a layup off a nice feed from Abron. Garlon Green followed with the game s signature play on a huge putback slam to TCU a edge with just over two minutes to play. Navy had a shot for the win at the buzzer, but Brandon Venturini s lastsecond 3-point attempt glanced off the rim at the buzzer. 4Trent Johnson became the first TCU head coach to start his Frog tenure 4-1 since Mike Brumbelow posted a 6-1 start in TCU held its opponent to under 50 points for the fourth time in five games. One day after a dismal offensive showing in a loss to Northwestern, TCU responded with its best offensive game of the young campaign. The squad scored a season high in points and shot 55.8% from the field. It also went a season-best 17-of-21 at the free-throw line. The Frogs needed the points, as UAB gave TCU all it could handle with its up-tempo attack. The two teams traded the advantage seven times, with no team leading by more than eight points. The Frogs built a seven-point edge late in the contest before holding on for the victory. UAB s Jordan Swing sank a 3-pointer to cut the lead to just one point with 2.8 seconds left, but Anderson answered by sinking a pair of free throws. The Frogs and Thunderbirds played a back-and-forth game early before TCU pulled away late for the win thanks in part to strong second-half efforts by Anderson and Abron. The tandem scored 25 of TCU s 30 points in the final stanza of a game that saw the lead change sides nine times. TCU gained the edge for good midway through the second half, as Abron kick-started an 8-0 run with six consecutive points. Adrick McKinney, finished off the spurt with a short jumper to put TCU up by seven, 45-38, with just over seven minutes remaining. Anderson finished the game off for the Frogs, scoring 10 of the team s final 11 points in the last two minutes to help hold off the T-birds. TCU fell victim to another slow start, as the Cougars jumped out to a 10-point lead while holding the Frogs scoreless for the game s opening 6:34. The cushion would be all that UH would need, as TCU was unable to climb within fewer than two points the rest of the way. Each time the Frogs appeared prepared to make a run, the Cougars were able to answer. The Frogs did slice the deficit back to one possession late in the half thanks to a 10-1 spurt, but Houston responded by closing the half with 10 of the final 14 points to move back on top by eight at the break, Both teams offensive opportunities increased in the second half. Tulsa guard Pat Swilling Jr. made the front end of a one-and-one free-throw opportunity with just 3.2 seconds remaining to push the Hurricane past TCU. TCU found itself leading by one point with just over a minute remaining, 49-48, following Garlon Green s second 3-pointer of the day, but it would prove to be the Frogs last score. D Andre Wright tied the game on the ensuing TU possession by sinking the first of two free-throw attempts before missing the second. The Frogs had two chances to retake the lead in the final moments. The Frogs scored seven of the game s final nine points in the comeback win. The Frogs led by as many as 12 points but saw their edge evaporate late as MVSU cranked its game up to another level. A 6-0 run gave TCU a lead with 9:34 remaining, but MVSU scored 15 of the game s next 19 points to move ahead inside the final three minutes. The victory was the first for the program ever over a top-5 opponent. The Frogs locked down on KU defensively on the first half while running out to a large lead. The Jayhawks scored only two points in the game s opening 14 minutes and made only 3-of-22 attempts overall in the period as TCU built a edge at the half. TCU then withstood Kansas best shot in the second half, including eight straight possessions where the Jayhawks scored at least one point. The Frog lead grew to as many as 16 points with 11:41 to play before KU made its last-ditch effort. WEST VIRGINIA 63, TCU 50 Fort Worth, Texas (Daniel-Meyer Coliseum) Feb. 9, 2013 FORT WORTH Kyan Anderson scored a team-high 16 points, but West Virginia stepped up its defensive effort in the second half to defeat TCU at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum, TCU recorded one of its best shooting halves of the season in the opening period but still found itself trailing by three at intermission due to an aggressive WVU defense that forced the Frogs into 12 turnovers. The Frogs kept themselves in the game by making 9-of-15 field goals in the half, good for a 60.0% clip, while posting a 16-5 rebounding edge. The Frogs trailed by as many as six points in the opening stanza before putting together a 9-3 run late in the half fueled by four Butler Lind points and a 3 from Anderson. Hinds answered with a trey just before the buzzer to give WVU the advantage at the break, TCU s offensive success would not last, as WVU switched to a zone defensive scheme in the second half that stifled the Frogs efforts. The Mountaineers held TCU to only 25.0% shooting following intermission. 4Kyan Anderson scored 16 points, his most since totaling 19 during the Jan. 23 loss at West Virginia.
