Game time is 7:05 p.m. at the Jenny Craig Pavilion (5,100 capacity). This is the first of three straight home games, all part of the Grand Canyon Classic (multi-team event). SERIES RECORD: This is the first meeting between USD and Robert Morris University. RADIO/STREAM: All USD home and away games will be broadcast on either The Mighty 1090AM or ESPN 1700AM with Jack Cronin (4th season) bringing you all the action; his pre-game show airs 15 minutes prior to tip-off. Wednesday's game will air on ESPN 1700AM and will be streamed on TheW.tv. WCC STANDINGS (as of Nov. 13): Saint Mary's (2-0), San Diego (1-0), BYU (1-0), Gonzaga (1-0), Santa Clara (1-0), San Francisco (1-1), LMU (0-1), Pacific (0-1), Pepperdine (0-1), Portland (0-1). WCC PRESEASON COACHES POLL: The Toreros were picked to place sixth by the WCC head coaches in the Preseason WCC Coaches Poll. Saint Mary's was selected first with 81 points and 9 first place votes. Rounding out the top-5 was Gonzaga (73 points, 1 first place vote), BYU (62 points), San Francisco (59 points) and Santa Clara (44 points). Following San Diego is Pepperdine (30 points), Pacific (24 points), Portland (21 points) and Loyola Marymount (19 points). HEAD COACH LAMONT SMITH (3RD YEAR): Coach Lamont Smith (San Diego, 1998) is in his third year at the helm of the Torero basketball program. He welcomes back four starters from last year's squad that finished overall. The Toreros earned a home victory over BYU and swept Portland during league play. Brett Bailey, last year's lone senior and team captain, earned All-WCC Second Team honors. Prior to USD Smith was at the University of New Mexico where he was the Associate Head Coach. Prior to UNM he spent time at Washington, Arizona State, Santa Clara, Saint Mary's College and Saint Louis University. Smith returned to USD where he was a member of the men's basketball team from He started all 27 games his senior year in for the 18-9 Toreros. He was named the Toreros' Defensive Player of the Year in 1997 and 1999 and served as the team captain from Smith earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from the University of San Diego in Lamont and his wife Kimberly have two daughters -- Payton and Olivia. A LOOK AHEAD: Following the Robert Morris game, Norfolk State (Nov. 18) and Little Rock (Nov. 20) visit the Jenny Craig Pavilion. These two games are also part of the Grand Canyon Classic, a multi-team event with the Toreros closing out the tournament at Grand Canyon on Nov. 25th. WRIGHT EARNS WCC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS: USD junior guard Isaiah Wright (Boise, Idaho) has been named this week's West Coast Conference men's basketball player of the week. Wright paced four Toreros in double digit scoring with a gamehigh 22 points to go with 7 assists and 5 steals in leading San Diego to an road win over San Jose State. Wright made 9-of-13 shots overall (69.2%) and was 2-2 from beyond the arc. He scored eight of the team s first 10 points as USD jumped out to a 10-5 advantage. Assistant coach Terrence Rencher comes to USD from the University of New Mexico. Lance LaVetter, Director of Operations, was an assistant coach at Seattle University the past three seasons, and was at the University of Washington as Director of Operations with Lorenzo Romar for twelve seasons. * The Toreros are partnering with Fox Sports San Diego to televise three games this season beginning with Norfolk State on Nov. 18th. The San Diego State game on Nov. 30th has been pushed back to an 8:00 p.m. start with the game being broadcast on Fox Sports West. The third contest will be on Dec. 9th against Northern Arizona. * USD has a new radio deal this season with all games airing on the Mighty 1090AM or ESPN 1700 AM. Jack Cronin, voice of the Toreros, returns for his 4th season. The Colonials are a member of the Northeast Conference (NEC)... They've opened the season with back-to-back road osses at Ohio State (95-64) and Grand Canyon (75-61)... 3 JACK CRONIN BACK AS USD'S VOICE OF TORERO MEN'S BASKETBALL Jack Cronin will be the play-by-play voice for Toreros men's basketball this season with games airing on the Mighty 1090AM and ESPN 1700 AM. Cronin returns for his fourth year as Voice of Toreros Basketball. Cronin is in his 11th year as the play-by-play announcer for University of San Diego Football, and was the #2 voice for USD Men's Basketball for seven years prior to his appointment three seasons ago. Jack Cronin You can follow him on twitter He spent nine years at The Mighty 1090 Sports Radio as a host, reporter and Executive Producer, and is now entering his third year at NewsRadio 600 KOGO as an anchor and reporter here in San Diego. In he began working for TheW. tv calling volleyball and soccer games. He is also in his 10th year calling football, basketball, baseball, softball, track & field, water polo and volleyball on television for Spectrum and the SPEC SportsNet. Cronin graduated in 2004 from the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in Integrative Biology. 4 MEET THE TOREROS... 0 Isaiah Pineiro F R-JR/RS Auburn, CA/Placer (Portland State) Isaiah Pineiro, a 6-7 wing from Auburn, California, sat out the campaign after transferring in from Portland State. Opened with 13 points & 6 rebounds in win at SJSU. In he played in all 31 games while totaling 19 starts. He finished with averages of 12.0 points per game and 5.5 rebounds while shooting 50.7 percent from the field ( ) and 76.3 percent from the free throw line (90-118). He notched three double-doubles against UT Rio Grande Valley (24 points/14 rebounds), Nevada (13 points, 11 rebounds) and Northern Arizona (31 points, 12 rebounds), and tallied 17 games in double-digit scoring. He played his freshman year at Sierra Junior College where he averaged 15.4 points and 7.4 rebounds. Pineiro attended Placer High School in Auburn, California. A 6-3 guard from Kentfield, CA, he played at Marin Catholic High School in the Bay Area. This past season he averaged 30.0 points per game (24th nationally) and was named the MVP of the Marin County Athletic League and for his team. He was also named the North Bay Player of the Year. During his junior season he led his team in scoring averaging 27.4 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals per game. Playing for Coach Jeff McCullough, the Eagles finished overall and were a 2015 Regional Finalist. 4 Mitch Schafer G JR/1V Portland, OR/Jesuit Competed last season as a walk-on for the Toreros and appeared in seven games in a limited role. Attended Jesuit High School in Portland, Oregon where he played for Coach Gene Potter. Helped his team take fifth place in the Oregon 6A State Tournament in his junior and senior seasons. 5 Emanuel Hylton G FR/HS Washington, D.C./St. John s College Emanuel Hylton enters his first season with the Toreros basketball program. A 6-3 guard from Silver Springs, Maryland, he attended St. John s College High School. This past season he averaged 12.0 points and earned 3rd Team All-WCAC honors for his squad. During his junior campaign he was a member of the 2016 Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) championship team that finished with a 30-5 record. The WCAC is considered one of the best high school basketball conferences in the country. Emanuel was a vital contributor on a roster that graduated four Division I guards in 2016.

Was an All-State honorable mention selection and was named to the All-Conference first team his senior season ( )... Helped his team go win the state championship his sophomore year and to the sweet 16 in his junior and senior seasons... Also played golf and baseball. 11 Akim Jamal Jonah C FR/HS Berlin, Germany/Friedrich-Ebert-Gymnasium Akim-Jamal Jonah enters his first year with the USD men s basketball program. From Berlin, Germany, he attended Friedrich-Ebert-Gymnasium. 12 Juwan Gray F SO/1V Dover, DE/ Scotland Performance Inst. (PA) Appeared in all 31 games with 21 starts in Averaged 7.2 points per game and ranked second on the team in rebounding at 5.6 boards per game... Converted 43.3% from the field (78-180), 40.9% from three point range (27-66) and 62.1% from the free throw line (41-66)... Led the team with 25 steals... Scored in double digits ten times with a season-best 16 points twice (Bethune-Cookman and Bethesda)... Notched two double-doubles against Bethune Cookman (16 points, 17 rebounds) and in a road win at Pepperdine (11 points, 14 rebounds)... He totaled 5 steals against Gonzaga ( ). A 6-8 forward from Dover, Delaware, Juwan played for Scotland Performance Institute in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania in He attended Polytech HS and in was named 1st Team All-Henlopen North Conference and 2nd Team All-State Delaware. In his final high school season, Juwan averaged 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. His older brother, Kendall Gray, played at Delaware State and was named the MEAC Player of the Year. 13 José Martinez F SO/1V Cayey, Puerto Rico/Cheshire Academy (CT) José Martinez, a 6-foot-10 forward, appeared in 13 games for the Toreros last season... He chipped in with 2.6 points per game... He had his break-out collegiate game against Portland in the regular-season finale at the Jenny Craig Pavilion... Against Portland ( ) he scored 11 points and made 4-6 shots overall and 3-of-5 three-pointers... In the WCC Tournament first round against Portland, he added 5 points and 2 blocked shots. Martinez is a face up forward with a lot of skill. During the season Martinez averaged 14.5 points per game and shot 40% from the three point line for Cheshire Academy (CT). 14 Andrew Ferguson C FR/HS Perth, Australia/Australian Center of Excellence Andrew Ferguson, a 7-0 center from Perth, Australia, enters his first year with USD. Ferguson attended the prestigious Australian Center of Excellence, formerly the Australian Institute of Sport. The Center of Excellence is a feeder program to all of Australia s Olympic Sports. He was a member of the 2016 Australian Under 18 National Team, which participated in the Albert Schweitzer Tournament (mini basketball World Cup) held in Manheim, Germany. He also played on the 2016 Emerging Boomers Tour Team that traveled to China. This team was for future Olympic hopefuls. He also represented Western Australia at the Under 20 Australian National Championships. This past season he played his club basketball for the Lakeside Lightning in the Western Australian State Basketball League. An extremely smart basketball player, he possesses the ability to shoot the ball from outside and has solid passing skills for a big man. Besides USD, he was recruited by Loyola Marymount, Saint Mary s College, Portland, Ball State, Kansas State and New Mexico. 15 Alex Floresca F R-SO/1V St. Louis, MO/Webster Groves Begins season as team s starting center. Sat out the season recovering from shoulder surgery. During his freshman campaign he appeared in 28 contests off the bench for the Toreros and averaged 11.1 minutes per game... Averaged 2.5 points per game and 1.8 rebounds... Converted 56.1% from the field (23-41) and 69.4% from the free throw line (25-36)... Scored a season-best 13 points (5-5 FG s) to go with 5 rebounds against Pepperdine ( )... Added 10 points at San Francisco ( )... Season-best 7 rebounds to go with 8 points at Pepperdine ( ).
