9 Page 9 Benj Stoick to speak at graduation Benjamin (Benj) Stoick, MPHS class of 69, will present the Commencement Address to the Class of 2014 in May. The senior class chose Mr. Stoick as the senior class speaker because many in the class felt he would be a great speaker and he had gotten to know many of the graduates as his son Conner, a member of the class of 2014, grew up here in Mobridge. Mr. Stoick has developed friendships with many powerful people such as former Governor Bill Janklow, Senator Tom Daschle and Senator John Thune. His son, Jordan Stoick, is the chief of staff of Representative Kristi Noem. His father, Jim Stoick, was in state government for eighteen years. In January, Mr. Stoick visited with John Boehner, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives and arguable the second-most powerful man in Washington. The speaker is a genuinely nice and down-to-earth guy, Stoick said of Boehner. We do not see eye-to-eye on every issue but on Education and National security, we are definitely on the same page, By Justice Keller The Mobridge-Pollock students who participated in the recent Festival Choir
