SEAWOLVES SWEEP PIONEERS: The Alaska Anchorage men s basketball team opened the campaign with a pair of hard-fought victories over NAIA Div. I program Antelope Valley on Nov. 2 & 3... in Friday s opener, Jr. F Tyler Brimhall premiered with 25 points (8-14 FG, 4-9 3FG), 7 rebounds and 4 assists, while Jr. G Jack Macdonald scored a career-high 20 points (7-12 FG, 4-7 3FG) in the win... Jr. F Niko Bevens added Rymer 16 points in his Seawolf debut, and So. PG Brennan Rymer tallied 6 points (3-4 FG), 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals... in Saturday s rematch, Brimhall accumulated 27 points (7-15 FG, 9-9 FT) and 8 rebounds to spark a win... Bevens scored all 14 of his points in the final 7:30, and So. G Keenan Dowell had 7 points, 2 assists and 3 steals. TEAM NOTES: The Seawolves led the GNAC and ranked 4th in NCAA Div. II in scoring defense at 62.6 points per game, crushing the old program record of 65.6 ppg allowed in UAA also led the league in FG% allowed (.419) and ranked 2nd in FT% (.746)... last year s team earned the program s 13th straight winning season and the 35th in 41 years... the Seawolves have earned eight straight winning GNAC records and qualified to the GNAC Tournament every year since its founding in LOOK WHO S BACK: With four letterwinners returning, the Seawolves have just 27 percent of their scoring and 30 percent of their rebounding back from last year s squad... Sr. F/C Brian Pearson is the most experienced Seawolf, with 63 career appearances and 23 starts... Pearson had a breakout season last year, posting 7.0 ppg, 4.3 rpg and ranking 6th in the GNAC with 1.3 bpg... Pearson currently ranks 9th on UAA s career blocks list with Jr. G Jack Macdonald, So. Jr. G/F Tyler Brimhall is UAA s representative on the Preseason All-GNAC Team and the lone newcomer to make that squad, coming north after helping North Idaho College to the NWAC title in Brimhall also spent two seasons at D-I Brimhall Idaho, where he redshirted in Jr. F Niko Bevens took a similar path to UAA after playing as a freshman on North Idaho s NWAC East Division title team and transfering to D-I Montana as a sophomore... Bevens shot nearly 50 percent (110 of 221) from 3FG range as a freshman at NIC... So. G Keenan Dowell is the latest international addition to UAA s program, with the Canadian combo guard transfering from Sheridan (Wyo.) College, where he helped his team to a 28-5 mark as a true freshman... after serving as team manager last year, Sr. G Matt Seymour has gained full playing eligibility and will suit up for the first time since playing at Whatcom (Wash.) CC from Seymour

3 was his team s 2nd-leading scorer and shot.436 from long range as a sophomore... three freshmen also get their first shot at college ball, including the last two Alaska Gatorade Players of the Year with redshirt Fr. F Austin White (Ninilchik) and true Fr. G Tobin Karlberg (Anchorage/Grace Christian)... Fr. G Travis Adams is just the second player from Barrow ever to suit up for the Seawolves, having helped the Whalers to three state titles in his four prep seasons. TRUST IN RUSTY: Now in his 15th year at the helm, head coach Rusty Osborne ( ) has led the Seawolves to 13 straight winning seasons, along with five NCAA Tournaments and a trip to the 2008 NCAA D-II Semifinals the longest tenured coach in program history and in the GNAC, he became the first UAA basketball coach to reach 200 career victories when the Seawolves beat Alaska Fairbanks on Jan. 10, 2015 Osborne captured his first career GNAC and NABC West District coach-of-the-year awards in 2008 after becoming Osborne the second coach to lead UAA to three consecutive NCAA berths ( ), and in his Seawolves posted a record to equal the 2nd-most victories in program history; Osborne s club holds that record with a 29-6 mark before taking over the head job in , the Texas native previously served 13 seasons ( ) as a UAA assistant, including 11 years as the top assistant the Seawolves have won over 60 percent of their games with Osborne on the staff, claiming four conference titles and eight trips to the NCAA Division II Tournament... Osborne is assisted by Ryan Orton (5th season) and Shane Rinner (7th season).
