McKay and his staff had one of the best in the country as the Flames ranked 19th in Division I in scoring defense, allowing just 63.4 points per last year. They rank first in the Big South in scoring defense by more than 10 points a game this season. NATIONAL RANKING / TEAM 6. Liberty High Point Radford Charleston Southern Presbyterian 71.9 OPPONENTS POINTS PER GAME KEMRITE REACHES 1,000 Kemrite looks to build off an exceptional redshirt junior campaign where he was named Second Team All-Big South as well as to the Big South All-Academic team. The native of Conroe, Texas led Liberty in scoring last year, averaging 13.2 points per game, shooting 48.7 percent from the field. Kemrite reached 900 career points on Nov. 27 scoring 11 points against Howard to become the 26th player in school history to record at least 900 career points. WITHIN KEMRITE S SIGHT ALL-TIME SCORING LIST 3 POINTS 21. Cliff Webber 1, Mike Coleman 1, Mike Goad 1, Mike Minett 1, Ryan Kemrite 1,000 BEAST MODE ON THE GLASS Scottie James has been extremely effective rebounding the ball early this season as he ranks first in the Big South, averaging 9.6 rebounds per game. James 15 rebounds against Charleston Southern on Jan. 2 was the most by a Liberty player since JR Coronado grabbed 16 boards on Dec. 28, 2012 vs. Union College. James is the first Liberty to record three straight double-doubles since Andrew Smith did from Feb. 4 through Feb. 11 in JAN. 9 Kemrite James PUTTING THE BIG SOUTH ON THE MAP The Flames win over Wake Forest was the Big South s first win over an ACC opponent since Dec. 7, 2014 when Radford beat Virginia Tech It was also first win over an ACC opponent for the first time since Nov. 25, 2008 at Virginia (86-82), during McKay's first stint at Liberty. ENDING STREAKS Liberty's win over Wake Forest was vital for the Flames' program as it snapped Liberty's losing streak of 22 straight DI non-conference road games with a win. Before the win over the Deacons, Liberty's last DI non-conference road win was over Western Carolina (63-62) on Dec. 31, It was also Liberty's first win over a Power 5 conference member since Liberty defeated Virginia on the road on Nov. 25, 2008 during McKay's first stint at Liberty. The Flames also set a school record five wins in the month of November during the school's DI era. CLUTCH AT THE FREE THROW LINE Liberty has stepped up when at the charity stripe, as they are ranked first in the country in free throw percentage, according to Kenpom. In Kenpom s rankings, it removed Liberty s non-di games, which puts Liberty s free throw percentage at 80.8 percent for the season. Currently ranked first and second in the Big South in free throw percentage is Lovell Cabbil (92.0) and Georgie Pacheco-Ortiz (90.6). Currently, Liberty has five players shooting over at least 90 percent from the free throw line and also seven players 70 percent or better. KENPOM RANKINGS Liberty s win at Wake Forest was its first win over a team rated in the top 100 in Kenpom since its win over George Mason (No. 89) on Dec. 1, 2008, during McKay s first stint at Liberty. Liberty has faced some stiff competition to open the season. In Liberty s two losses this season, the Flames faced Houston who is ranked No. 60 in Kenpom and Mercer who is ranked No. 84. Throughout Liberty s 13 non-conference games, Liberty will face six opponents who are ranked in the top 162 of Kenpom (No. 81 Wake Forest, No. 84 Mercer, No. 60 Houston, No. 152 UNCG, No. 121 Georgia State, No. 161 Fort Wayne). CRASH THE GLASS Liberty's new depth in the froncourt has been on display this year in the rebounding department as it ranks second as the NCAA's most improved rebounding team with a +8.7 difference this season. The proceeds generated from the contest will go to benefit the hurricane relief charity chosen by each school. Not only was it special from Puerto Rico native, Georgie Pacheco-Ortiz but he also made somewhat of a homecoming, having played his last two seasons in high school in Richmond at Deep Run High School. Socttie, a redshirt sophomore, is seeing his first playing time on the court as he sat out last year after transferring Micah Scottie from Bradley. Micah, a freshman, is redshirting after playing his final year of high school at Amherst County.
