4 Scouting Siena Siena plays its 35th game which adds to a program single-season record Today, March 29th, also marks the latest that the Saints have ever played in a season Siena has posted a 13-win improvement from last season, tied with UT Arlington for second best nationally The Saints have secured the program s first winning season in 11 years and most wins in a dozen seasons Siena has captured its 13th 20-win season and first in 12 years The Saints 11 MAAC wins were an eight-win improvement as the Saints finished five spots higher than their preseason prediction in the standings Siena has now finished higher than their preseason prediction in four of the past five years The Saints were just 9-22 overall last year, finishing 10th of 11 teams in the MAAC with a 3-17 league mark Siena has won eight of their last nine games It marks the Saints best nine-game stretch since winning 10 in a row from Feb. 6 - Mar. 8, 2003 Siena has allowed just 52.6 points per game over the nine-game stretch Siena had won five straight - their longest winning streak in four years - prior to succuming in the semifinals of the MAAC Tournament to eventual champion Quinnipiac Siena has also posted a four-game winning streak and four separate three-game winning streaks this season The Saints are an impressive 12-3 in true road games this season Siena s 12 road wins are tied with four others for the fourth most nationally Biggest Win Improvement ( to ) 1.) Michelle Collins 91-92) A two-time MAAC Player of the Week (Nov. 24, Jan. 26), Coles ranks sixth in the MAAC in scoring (13.2) and third in free throw percentage (.831) Coles has played in more games (124) and made more starts (117) than any other player in program history Margot Hetzke was unanimously named the MAAC Rookie of the Year and was also a Third Team All-MAAC and MAAC All-Rookie Team selection Hetzke is Siena s fifth MAAC Rookie of the Year and first since Laura Menty in Hetzke joins Liene Jansone ( ) as the only Siena freshmen to be named to a postseason All-MAAC Team (both named to Third Team) Hetzke was joined on the MAAC All-Rookie Team by classmate Kollyns Scarbrough, marking just the third time in program history and first since that the Saints have boasted a pair of MAAC All-Rookie Team honorees Hetzke was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week a program record nine times and the Corvias ECAC Division Metro/Upstate Rookie of the Week five times Hetzke s nine MAAC Rookie of the Week awards were the third most all-time in the conference s 33-year history Hetzke ranks seventh in the MAAC in scoring (13.1) and fourth in rebounding (7.4) Hetzke s 444 points are the third highest total by a Siena freshman in program history Siena ranks 24th nationally in rebound margin (+7.0) The Saints have pulled down a program record 1,304 rebounds this season The Saints have out-rebounded their opponents in 34 of their last 36 games dating back to last season Siena out-rebounded its opponents in 26 straight games from Mar. 6, Feb. 12, 2015 Siena has MADE more free throws (510) than its opponents have ATTEMPTED (473) and are averaging 21.1 free throw attempts per game The Saints 510 made free throws and 719 free throw attempts are both program records The Saints are the last MAAC team standing despite being predicted to finish 10th in the preseason poll and playing with just seven players Quinnipiac (NCAA) and Marist (WNIT) also qualified for postseason play but have since had their seasons ended The Saints played against six teams during the regular season which are competing in national postseason tournaments (NCAA, WNIT, WBI) Siena went 2-7 against teams competing in national postseason tournaments, with wins over Buffalo and Central Connecticut which are both playing in the WNIT The Saints also played NCAA Tournament participants Quinnipiac (three times) and UAlbany and WNIT participants Akron and Marist (twice) Nine of the Saints 12 losses this season have come against teams with winning records including seven against teams which won 20 or more games Seven of Siena s losses have come against teams competing in national postseason tournaments (NCAA, WNIT, WBI) The Saints 20-point road win at Xavier last Sunday marked the program s largest margin of victory ever over a current member of one the six major conferences (ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC) Siena s previous largest margin was 19, a win at the then Big East s Syracuse on Dec. 6, 1989 It was the Saints first road win over a major conference opponent since an win at Colorado on Nov. 23, 2007 It was Siena s seventh all-time road win (28 games) and 14th win overall (47 games) over a major conference opponent
