SCOUTING OREGON The Ducks are 6-4 after defeating Davidson, 8-4, on March 27. Five players have recorded double-digit goals for Oregon, including Shannon Propst with a team-best 28 points (16g, 12a). Caroline Federighi and Salliebeth Finnegan have shared time in the net, while Federighi has posted a 9.01 GAA and.507 save percentage. LAST TIME OUT The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team was defeated by Louisville (3-6, 1-1), 18-7, in its BIG EAST opener on March 27 at Nippert Stadium. Bell put UC on the board with 23:39 remaining in the half, but UofL scored five-straight to keep the game out of Cincinnati s grasp. After Louisville took the 13-2 lead at halftime, UC scored five goals and limited Louisville to the same amount in the final 30 minutes. UofL outshot Cincinnati, 33-18, while the Bearcats committed 13 more fouls than Louisville, IN THE RANKINGS Cincinnati tops the BIG EAST in draw controls per game with 16.5, while freshman Megan Bell ties for second in the league and sixth in the nation in the same category (5.33). Junior Kylie Ramsland is averaging a league-best 1.17

2 free-position goals per game. Junior Katie Kiriazoglou is fourth in the conference and tied for 30th in the country in assists per game (1.83), while senior captain Laura Simanski s 2.83 goals per game is also fourth in the BIG EAST. LENDING A HELPING HAND DURING SPRING BREAK The UC lacrosse team took an untraditional route of spending their spring break, as they spent 198 hours volunteering throughout the week. The Bearcats spent time at Our Daily Bread, an Over-the-Rhine ministry, where they handed out snacks and entertained children. They also sorted and packaged donated good at Matthew 25: Ministries and delivered blankets at St. Vincent de Paul. During the remainder of their free time, the UC lacrosse team baked cakes for Our Daily Bread, who provides the birthday treat to any guest that comes to ODB with an ID stating that their birthday is near. MAKING HISTORY The Bearcats scored a program-best 20 goals in its defeat of Presbyterian on Sunday, Feb. 26 at Old Bailey Stadium. The previous record was 18 goals, which was first recorded on March 25, 2009 against Fresno State and later against Presbyterian on March 13, KIRIAZOGLOU NAMED TO BIG EAST HONOR ROLL The Bearcats earned its second-straight BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll nod when junior captain Katie Kiriazoglou earned the honor for her performance against Presbyterian. She totaled eight points and a career-high six goals and two assists. RAMSLAND EARNS FIRST BIG EAST WEEKLY HONOR OF THE SEASON Junior midfielder Kylie Ramsland earned a spot on the league s weekly honor roll for the week of February 20 for her seven-point effort at San Diego State and against Fresno State. She scored six goals against the Bulldogs, helping Cincinnati to its first win of the season. Her six goals tie for second on UC s all-time list and is nearly half of her total goals from 2011 (13). BEARCATS GO 1-1 IN OPENING WEEKEND Cincinnati opened its 2012 season with a pair of contests in San Diego, Calif. Junior captain Katie Kiriazoglou led six scorers with five points (3g, 2a) in a 14-9 setback at San Diego State on Feb. 17, while freshman Megan Bell scored two goals in her collegiate debut. The Bearcats battled Fresno State on Feb. 19, led by junior midfielder Kylie Ramsland with a career-high six goals. After holding a 7-6 halftime lead, UC scored 10 second-half goals to seal the victory. Its 10 goals in the second period were its most in one half since it scored 15 in the first half against Fresno State on March 23, O CAPTAIN MY CAPTAIN The 2012 team captains are Cathy Hebert, Katie Kiriazoglou, Kylie Ramsland and Laura Simanski. WELCOME TO THE QUEEN CITY Cincinnati added seven freshman to the 2012 roster, four of which come from out of state. Megan Bell (Baltimore, Md.), Leigh Fisher (Terrace Park, Ohio), Jaymee Heineke (Sharonville, Ohio), Ashley Helmrath (Ellicott City, Md.), Kelly Hillmert (Cincinnati, Ohio), Jillian Magnotta (Glyn Ellyn, Ill.) and Torrie Zarella (Great Falls, Va.) are all newcomers. FAMILIAR FOES Three of UC s opponents are teams in which a Bearcats coaching staff member has either played on or coached. Assistant coach Breanna Stiff is a graduate of Syracuse, while fellow assistant coach Lauren Gunning attended Connecticut and held her last coaching stint at Iona. THE BEST YET The Bearcats return its all-time leading scorer in Laura Simanski. Simanski has a program-best 125 points on 115 goals and 10 assists. Last season, she scored a team-best 22 goals, including a team-high 11 free position goals. She registered a program-high 52 points and 47 goals during her freshman season, while her 51 points and 46 goals in 2010 is second on the all-time list. TOP SCORERS ARE BACK The Bearcats return seven of its top eight scorers, including Simanski and leading point-scorer Katie Kiriazoglou. Despite only starting four contests, Kiriazoglou recorded team highs in points (34) and assists (18). She also registered an 80 percent shots on goal percentage, netting 16 of her 28 shots. A PRODUCTIVE MIDFIELD Senior midfielders Kylie Ramsland and MacKenzie Parsons return to the field for the Bearcats after a productive 2011 season. The duo combined for one-quarter of the team s caused turnovers (21 of 82). Parsons 33 draw controls was a team-best, while Ramsland s 31 ground balls tied for first. Additionally, they recorded a combined 33 points on 24 goals and nine assists. GUARDING THE NET Sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer Walsh will pick up where she left off in 2011 as the starting goalkeeper for Cincinnati. Walsh finished third in saves (133) and saves per game (8.87) on UC s all-time list. Dedicated to the complete development of her student-athletes, Swords provides her athletes the opportunity to succeed athletically, academically, and as contributing members of the community. In 2011, UC increased its free position goals percentage to.444 (32-of-72), while decreasing its turnovers from 357 (in 2010) to 313. The Bearcats continued its improvement in 2010, scoring more goals on less shots than the 2009 squad. UC recorded a.447 shot percentage in 2010, nearly doubled its assists for the season (78 in 2010) and improved statistically in ground balls (351). In 2009 the Bearcats began the season with a threegame win streak and ended the season on a two-game win streak. Cincinnati scored 58 more goals, controlled 48 more draws, picked up 15 more ground balls, and tallied 76 more points than the inaugural team, showing improvement in every statistical category. Academically, the lacrosse team has been honored with the BIG EAST Conference Team Academic Excellence Award during both seasons it has been a member of the prestigious league ( , ). The award recognizes the highest collective grade-point average in each conference sport. The squad also posted a perfect Academic Progress Report score in 2008 and Lindsey Marshall graduated magna cum laude in the summer of Ten UC players earned IWLCA Academic Squad honors over the last two seasons. For the academic year, Jess Kazaks, Lauren Kelly, Patty Kelly, Shannon Lynes, and Lindsey Marshall were honored and for the academic year Jen Mott, Kazaks, Patty Kelly, Lynes and Skelton were recognized by the IWLCA for excellence in the classroom. Additionally, Cincinnati was recognized by the Intercollegiate Women s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) as earning Academic Squad honors for the 2010 season. UC was one of 48 Division I schools to receive the recognition in Swords has also encouraged her athletes to become active members of the community, varying from volunteering time around the holidays at the Drop Inn Center to visiting the Cincinnati Children s Hospital. Other community service projects have included Adopt a Family, Winners Walk Tall, Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, Bras for Bridges, and Breast Cancer Awareness. The Bearcats have also given back to the lacrosse community as well. During the summer and fall, the team hosted several clinics for area youth. Swords became UC s first intercollegiate women s lacrosse coach on Feb. 16, 2007, and led the Bearcats to the first win in school history on March 7, 2008, against Saint Mary s. She was selected as one of three BIG EAST coaches to serve on the Intercollegiate Womens Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Board of Directors. Prior to her coaching stop at UC, Swords helped Johns Hopkins build one of the premier women s lacrosse programs in the nation. The Blue Jays posted a record during her time on the Baltimore campus. In 2003 and again in 2005, she directed a defense that was ranked in the Top 10 nationally. Swords mentored 2005 all-american Lacey-Leigh Hentz, who was a four-time first team all-american Lacrosse Conference (ALC) defender. In 2007, sophomore Sarah Gallion earned second team all-alc honors. Swords served as the defensive coordinator at Johns Hopkins and was promoted to associate head coach in the fall of She was a volunteer assistant for one season before being promoted to full-time status in August After beginning her coaching career at George Mason, Swords moved on to Cornell where she worked primarily with the Big Red defense. During her three-year stay in Ithaca, N.Y., Cornell was ranked as high as No. 15 in the national polls and won the ECAC Championship in In 2001, Swords was an assistant coach at the St. Paul s School for Girls in Baltimore while concurrently serving as a volunteer assistant at Hopkins. A four-year letterwinner at James Madison, Swords started all 35 games over her final two seasons. She led the team in interceptions in each of her final two seasons and was awarded the squad s Unsung Hero award in She also garnered Virginia I/South II honors as a senior. The Cherry Hill, N.J., native graduated from JMU in 1996 with a bachelors degree in kinesiology and minor in business. She continued her playing career on Team Toyota until retirement in Swords husband, Kyle, played professional soccer in the A-League with the Hershey Wildcats and Charleston Battery, and in the indoor league with the Harrisburg Heat and Baltimore Blast. Junior captain Katie Kiriazoglou led the Bearcats with five lacrosse team (1-1) defeated Fresno State (0-1), 17-12, on Sunday afternoon at San Diego State s Aztec Lacrosse Field. points (3g, 2a), while freshman Megan Bell scored two goals in her first collegiate game. Eight student-athletes scored for the Bearcats, including Ramsland, MacKenzie Parsons (3), Laura Simanski (2), Marissa Pierson (2), Rachel Mercier (1), Katie Kiriazoglou (1), Jenn Doran (1) and Megan Bell (1). The Bearcats took the early 2-0 lead on a pair of goals by Marissa Pierson and Kylie Ramsland. But after a scoreless four minutes of play, Ramsland was issued a yellow card, which allowed the Aztecs to capitalized on a man-up situation to make the score 2-1. Kiriazoglou netted her first of the night with 13:25 remaining, but SDSU got hot and scored three goals in a span of two minutes to take the 4-3 lead with just less than 11 minutes remaining. Cincinnati got right back in it on back-to-back goals from Rachel Mercier and Kiriazoglou, but the two teams exchanged one goal apiece to even the score, 5-5, heading into the break. Bell scored her first career goal to start the scoring in the second half, but then it was all San Diego State, who netted six-in-a-row to extend the Aztec s lead, 11-6, with 14:10 remaining. UC started off hot, as it scored the first four goals of the contest before holding its largest lead, 6-1, just 10 minutes in. But the Gaels wouldn t go down without a fight, as it scored five of the next six goals to tie it at 7-7 with 10 minutes remaining. The remainder of the half became a backand-forth battle before the two teams settled with a score at the intermission. Longwood scored two straight before back-to-back goals from Simanski and Bell made it 8-4 with 8:31 to go in the half. Longwood closed out the stanza by scoring the next four goals - three by Jessica Rudloff - to take a 12-4 lead into halftime.
