15 New South Wales Netball Association Board of Directors Report to November Council Meeting ANZ CHAMPIONSHIPS Congratulations to Julie Fitzgerald who has been appointed Head Coach of the NSW Swifts for The team is in a rebuilding phase after many of our established players retired over the last couple of years, but we are confident that our 2010 team will continue the strong oncourt performances of the Swifts. We are exceedingly pleased to announce the signing of English international Sonia Mkoloma who will enhance and provide strength in our defensive lineup. Other confirmed signings to day are our Captain Catherine Cox, Kim Green, Kim Borger, Courtney Tiari and Susan Pratley. We are looking forward to a great 2010 and hope all members will continue to support our great team, the NSW Swifts RULES FORUM The Board would like to thank those members and Association representatives who attended the second rules forum on 3 September From this, as can be seen in these meeting papers, the review of our rules for Championships & Competitions have undergone significant and positive change and we would commend to you the complete package of changes for your adoption and implementation for REVIEW OF REGIONAL ACADEMIES We have in recent months, commissioned a formal review of the regional academies and our commitment to them and how they fit within our player pathway. The Board has now received the report and is currently reviewing the recommendations put forward. To date the Board has agreed to maintain the status quo for 2010 pending further review of the recommendations for STATE/STATE AGE 2010 As advised a couple of years ago, we will be staging our State Age Championships in 2010 across four venues with a division of each age group at each venue. This is a major step in the staging of these ever growing championships and will rely heavily on our Committee and District volunteers from our host Associations to ensure its success. The Board discussed at length the implementation of the four venue structure in 2010, being the first year, and has made the decision that there would be no promotion/relegation in 2010 based on 2009 results. The basis for this decision is the requirement for a maximum of 22 teams in the Championship and divisions 2 and 3 under the four venue structure. It would seem to create undue hardship for teams. The Board appreciates that in hindsight, this decision should have been made prior to the 2009 Championships and communicated at that time and apologises for this oversight, however believes that this decision remains in the best interest of our age-based competition. Page 15 of 37

16 As an example, if we take the Championship division, to allow for the 20 teams in this division in 2010, teams will be relegated to division 2. If we then allow automatic promotion of the winning and runners up teams in division 2, this would mean teams 19 and 20 being relegated as well from the Championship division and teams 27 and 28 being promoted based purely on 2009 results. This was seen as being a mis-application of the rule for 2010 but for 2011 and onwards, the two-up/two-down rule will again be in play. MEETING WITH MEMBERS OF NA BOARD AND NA CEO The NSW Board will be meeting with members of the NA Board and CEO on Tuesday 10 November to discuss several strategies put forward by NA to each MO. These include: One Brand strategy Communication strategy Sponsorships NNSW has also requested discussion regarding the future of the AIS program and its impact on the national competitions FEES 2010 After much deliberation, the Board has endorsed the recommendation from our Finance Director for a $2 increase across the player membership categories for This increase will ensure our continuing ability to provide the standard of services our members have come to expect whilst supporting those presenters and volunteers who undertake to directly provide these services. We commend the adoption of this increase to Council. The Board would also advise that as from 2011, there will be one category of affiliation for all District Associations and based on this, there will be one affiliation fee of $250, again payable for the 2011 calendar year. NNSW CONFERENCE FEBRUARY 2010 Plans are well underway for our bi-annual conference being held on 20/21 February The full conference agenda will shortly be published and all members, coaches, umpires and officials are encouraged to participate in the conference, and attend the dinner on Saturday night. 18 Proposed new rules are being presented to Council at this meeting for your consideration. FINANCE COMMITTEE J. HAHN CONVENOR At the end of September 2009 we have approx 103,000 registered members on the NMAS data base. This exceeds our budgeted members of 102,000. The Profit and Loss report shows that we are within budget for Current financial result of $1,344, will be reduced by the end of the year once all expenses have been recognized. Netball NSW Competitions State Age Championships and State Championships for 2009 were run at a combined loss of $43, The Board reviewed the costs that will increase in 2010 and beyond with going to a four (4) venue State Age Championship. Infrastructure costs to run the State Age Championships are increasing. The Board views State and State Age Championships as our Flag Ship competitions, however, costs for running both championships are increasing for host Associations and Netball NSW. State and State Age Championships will never run at a break even point financially. We have a responsibility to the wider Netball NSW membership to maintain the loss of the State and State Age Championships at a manageable level. Therefore it is proposed to increase the entry fee for the State and State Age Championships by $30.00 excluding GST per team. State Age Championships. Recommendation. Team entry fee of $ GST $15.00 = $ State Championships Recommendation 1. Team entry fee of $ GST $15.00 = $ State League Region 1. The forecast loss on State League Region 1 in 2009 is $26, The Region 1 State Competition is run over 18 rounds plus the finals series. The current entry fee of $60.00 per player equals $3.33 per game per player. The Board is recommending an increase of $10.00 per player for Region 1 State League Recommendation 1. Per Player fee of $ GST $7.00 = $77.00 per player Night Inter-District. The current entry fee is $ per team. We recommend that the entry fee be changed to a per player based entry fee as Region 1 State League. Recommendation. Per Player fee $ GST $5.00 = $55.00 per player. Regional State League.
