3 NEW IMPORTANT Livestock Weigh-In Requirements ALL BREEDING & MARKET animals are required to attend their respective weigh in date to be eligible to show at the Meade County Fair. This goes for all species including, large beef, swine, sheep and goats. Bucket calves still have the June 1 st deadline but should be at small animal weigh-in if you have them in your possession. March 24, from 4:00 6:00 PM, is Beef/Dairy Weigh-in. This is for all market steers and heifers, breeding heifers, dairy cow/heifers, and any second year bucket calf (bucket calves that were shown at the 2016 County Fair). April 23, from 2:00 4:00 PM, is Small Animal Weigh-in. Small animals include all (breeding and market) swine, sheep, and goats. If you are concerned about biosecurity, animals can be left on trailers and we will hand the taggers into the trailer for you to tag your own animal. Please plan to tag your own animal, as Scott or Elly will likely be contaminated from other animals. We suggest you also bring your own pig boards and small army to corner hogs in the trailer. The mandatory weigh-in is so the Fair Board can make preparations as necessary prior to the county fair. In previous years, it was optional to weigh-in breeding animals, but this year breeding will be treated as any market animal in the past. Also new for 2017 State EID tags used for KSF/KJLS will cost $5 per tag. Please be prepared pay for these tags the day of weigh-in. Meade County 4-H tags will still be free of charge. State EID tags are only needed for animals being exhibited at the Kansas State Fair or Kansas Junior Livestock Show. Again, all animals wishing to show at the county fair, will be tagged at the County Wide weigh-in date, no exceptions. Please clear your calendars for these dates. Please contact Elly office if you have any questions regarding this topic. 5 Payton and Cloverbuds Payton Welsh joined the Meade County Cloverbuds to do a cookie project. She brought everyone an apron that said "IT'S COOKIE TIME!!!!!" with Miss Teen Rodeo Kansas Payton Welsh. The interesting part of this event---was some of the girls looked up to Payton, knew her from other events and also had her picture in their room. Payton, her mother Beth, and sister Katie helped the youth get the aprons tied and ready to decorate Snow Man Cookies. Dallas Sherman and Lydia Wheeler were our 4-H helpers for the program. Cloverbuds present were Chloe Wheeler, Cadence Sherman, Jaylee Eckhoff, and Teghan Rosendahl. Payton and Katie even joined in on the decorating fun. Payton told the youth that from her 4-H projects she was enrolled in she felt she gained a lot of experience that helped her win this contest. Payton was in Clothing and Textiles. She was in the Buymanship part of that project where she learned to purchase, put together and model her clothing. She was also able to give presentations at the Revue that helped her prepare for speaking in front of the Rodeo judges. She was in foods and who doesn't like to share those experiences and lastly the Horse project where she was very involved. So all of these projects have molded her into the person she is today. The Cloverbuds want to Thank Payton and her family for sharing and giving their time to Meade Cloverbuds. Thanks again to Payton for her efforts and involvement in the Meade County 4-H program and best wishes for continued success.
