FAYETTE COUNTY 4-H HALL OF FAME RECIPIENTS Neil and Julie Lansing of West Union have been involved with 4-H in Fayette County for over 30 years. Being a 9 year 4-H member, Neil knew immediately after his high school graduation that he wanted to remain involved and continues to do so today as a club leader, member of the Fayette County Extension Council and representative from Fayette County on the Region 4 Regional Council. Julie didn t participate in 4-H growing up but soon after meeting Neil and getting married became involved as a club leader, while raising their family of six children. Neil and Julie work together daily on their family dairy farm and serve as camp cooks and project assistants at Pinebluff 4-H camp located near Decorah for two weeks each June as well as Fayette County 4-H Youth Council advisors. NOMINATION FORMS DUE Enclosed you will find award forms for Alumni 4-H member, Honorary 4-H member, Meritorious Service and Volunteer awards. Please fill out and return to the Extension office by October 1 with names of individuals or businesses and why you feel they are award worthy. 4-H FISHING EVENT Fishing event with Leif White and the Hawkeye Conservation Club will be held on Sunday, September 15 from 2-6 pm at the Rocky Erickson pond located between Wadena and Volga off County Road W 51. For more information contact Leif at RECORD BOOKS DUE SEPTEMBER 15 4-H ers are encouraged to complete record books and turn them into club leaders by September 15. All forms are available by picking up at the Extension Office or can be found online at The exhibit explanation forms that were filled out for fair can be put in your record book. Simply fill out the back of the forms or junior members (grades 4-6) may continue to use the basic project record book sheet; intermediate (grade 7-8) the experienced and senior members (grades 9-12) the advanced. When completing the forms remember that the year runs from October 1, 2012-September 30, 2013 so be sure to use the grade completed NOT the grade you are currently in. REMINDER All current county council members MUST complete a record book to remain on council. If you have any questions or need additional help with your record book, please give Michele a call at the office to set up a time. Leaders must have record books turned into the Extension Office on or before Tuesday, October 1, in order for books to be processed for county judging. If you are Interested in helping judge record books, please let Michele know. A schedule of judging times will be sent to those interested COUNTY 4-H COUNCIL MEMBES YOUTH DAIRY CLASSIC SET FOR SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 8 Reminder to those on the council: a meeting will be held Sunday, August 25 beginning at 2 pm. Attendance is important as we plan out the new year, elect officers and finalize plans for the upcoming retreat. Bring along your calendars and a pen or pencil. Remember attendance is important.
